Whatever effect it has on total checks, ranking, awards etc. doesn't seem to have kicked in yet.

Why is the Animation list on the Miscellaneous tab? It's from BFI Screen Guides, the same as the Doc and Musical lists which are both on the Institute tab (where they belong).

They should be in the non-existent Genre tab, actually. Either way, I'm glad to see the new lists are up.

Not me.

So, I have to wait tomorrow an update to not have a tied squint at 3eyes anymore.
Guys, are you reading?
Yeah?...
Oh no, sorry.

I got a top lists update message today. No awards update message since 6th August (how regular are they meant to be?). Still no sign of the blog post message.

I didn't get a message about the blog post, but I did get three separate messages about my lists being adopted (one for each list.)

I know we've known for several days now, but I'm still hopelessly excited to finally have a decent musical list and two good documentary lists. I think I'm going to focus on working through them over the next few months, rather than the challenges I was planning to participate in.

I'm glad there are finally a couple of decent documentary lists. Not bothered about the musicals list but I have no objection to it being added. Seems a reasonable inclusion if you're interested in that genre.

I'm most excited about the BadMovies list, for giving me lots more enjoyable stuff to watch, and the Australian list for all the new checks I'll get :)

I haven't gotten a blog post message for the last three posts, just hadn't noticed until now!
The list and awards update messages still work fine for me, maybe you haven't gained or lost any awards for a while?

The Badmovies list seems like a very cool list to work on. Do they just add stuff to the list ,like the New Cult Canon or could some of these masterpieces drop off at any moment in time?

There's no actual top list on the website, so I guess they'll just add films that get 3 or 4 star reviews in the future.

I don't even get the rating system here: if they give 3 or 4 stars to a bad movie are they saying it's REALLY bad? Or that it's so bad it's good? Or that it's unfairly maligned and is actually a good movie with a bad reputation?

They(actually "he" it's just one guy) is saying the film is entertaining. So a mix of both. If a film is really bad, but not entertaining to him it gets less stars, if a film isn't actually "bad" by his criteria then it doesn't get reviewed. So this list, in theory, is bad films that are fun to watch whether because they're "so bad they're good" or "genuinely good."

I would suppose the rating would just be saying 'it's enjoyable'.

Edit: Peaceful beat me :(

Thanks to PeacefulAnarchy, finally, there's a list for good Indian films on iCM

Also, mostly the lists I voted for made it through. Super happy! :)

For Bad Movies, I just reverse my rating system. As simple as that. 1 for the best ones. Although I have never gone as low as 10.

I make no distinction between 'bad' and 'good' films. Every film is rated on the same scale. As long as they're enjoyable then they are good. 'Bad' movies might be enjoyable in different ways, but it doesn't make them any less good. Sad seeing how many favourites I have on that 'bad movie' list :(

I understand that. Like for The Room, which I love, it's hard for me to rate it a 9 or 10. It is conspicuously bad. Although so bad that it's good, but it still is basically bad.
For me if I rate it as high as, say, Citizen Kane or Vertigo, my world will collapse. Bad movies, hence, shall be rated in the Bizarro World rating system

btw, I noticed on the badmovies.org site (his scoring system still makes limited sense to me, but I guess it just ain't for me!) that Nosferatu is on there specifically for a version with a soundtrack by metal back Type O Negative. so it's a bit misleading that one being on the list on ICM without that context

Citizen Kane - 6
Vertigo - 5
The Room - 10

:whistling:

My ratings are how important/enjoyable that film is to me and that's it. I'll give Orgazmo a 9 and Passion of Joan of Arc a 9, Silent Night Deadly Night an 8 and Veronika Voss an 8. Doesn't mean I enjoy them the same way, just that I enjoy them that much. Well, my 8-10s work don't work as well comparatively because they all basically equal 10, but that's a different story.

However, he does seem to have a huge following. I don't think it's like some random guy in his parents basement who has a website no-one knows about. His forum seems pretty active, for example: http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php

Btw, he has a breakdown on his ratings at the bottom of this page: http://www.badmovies.org/movies/index.h ... horratings

Glad you asked, here are some choice words from him:
What is this place? Who are you? Why is that watermelon there?
Badmovies.org, of course, a review website dedicated to bad movies, b-movies, and cult films. I am Andrew Borntreger, Gunnery Sergeant USMC and champion of cinematic disasters, at your service. Don't worry about the watermelon.

The reviews are not exactly model works of the English language. Who taught you how to write and why are you better than other movie reviewers?
I am a Marine with a high school education. We are lucky that I can spell "Neanderthal." As for the second part: I might not be able to write pretty reviews like some, but I can kick their ass. If you encounter any serious errors in a review, feel free to notify me via email or, better yet, on the Message Board.

I don't see any problem in rating a movie based on SUBJECTIVE experience like how much I have enjoyed it, irrespective of the quality of the film. If I liked/enjoyed a less acclaimed movie as much as a more accalaimed movie, I'll never hesitate rating both at the same level.

For me, PotC 1 and It's a wonderful Life are 10/10; Cars and City Lights 9/10; Avengers and The Shop on the Main Street 8/10; Final Destination 1 and Pather Panchali 7/10; Hunger Games and Citizen Kane 6/10. But if you ask which is better among Cars and Kane obviously I'd choose the latter.

Ratings are just RELATIVE in my world.. :)

I was concerned about the list at first because it was just 'one random guy', but considering that 1) he has quite a well-known website and 2) for such a specialty genre, a list is only going to be useful if it's compiled by someone with enough knowledge of that genre, which he is.

So I'm actually totally fine with it now.

Plus, we also have the Cult Canon list which is done by one random dude on the AV Club.

From IMDB:

I have seen Nosferatu and I have heard these three albums many, many times. Can I check this version now? ^_^
