Goal:
Watch as many Spanish films as possible. If you are unsure of whether a film counts or not, just ask.

Rules:
- A feature film (Anything over 40 minutes) counts as one entry
- A total of 90 minutes of short films count as one entry
- For Mini-Series (40 minute episodes or longer) each episode counts as an entry.
- For Mini-Series with shorter episodes (25 minutes or so), the 90 minute rule applies.
- Rewatches not allowed.

Challenge runs from 1 July 2012 - 31 July 2012.

Official iCM lists:
Goya Award

Unofficial iCM lists:
Cintas de oro: The 50 Best Spanish films
50 best Spanish Movies by Rockdelux
Nickel Odeon Top Spanish films until 1995

The following two lists include films from Spain, and also from other countries which don't count for the challenge:
"Espanol de cine" - An anthology of Spanish language films
NOTICINE's 100 Best Films of Ibero-American Cinema

Participants:
WalterNeff - 15

3eyes - 11

mjf314 - 10

mightysparks - 9

frbrown - 8

allisoncm - 1
Enigma - 1

I will go for at least 10 on the Goya list, which gets me to Bronze

I'm in. I too will try for the Goya bronze

The other official list:

http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/cinem ... 2000-2009/

(tho it includes some Brazilian films, which I assume don't count)

I think the challenge is limited to just Spain, and not to everything in the Spanish language. So nothing from Latin America.

Two unofficial lists, NOTICINE and "Espanol de cine", include films from both Spain and Latin America. Would it be less confusing if I removed those two lists from the first post?

I was going to avoid challenges next month (except for the Grindhouse one), but I might try to get bronze on the Goya list.

Those lists should be alright to keep there, maybe make a note that not all the films are from Spain so people can check before watching something.

Disappointed that this is probably the worst month for me to participate, I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I'll try to watch some, though.

Heck, I guess I won't particpate then.

If any of you haven't voted yet in the Lists that should be official on ICM poll, the Nickel Odeon list needs your support. It would also be a good idea to favorite that list.

I guess we could change it to include anything in the Spanish language. It was just meant to be Spain to make it simpler, but it's not really a huge deal.

The French challenge included Belgium, French North Africa and Canada, so I just assumed...

I've fallen in love with Latin American cinema; but as I'm doing the 50s challenge too (tough choice), it doesn't matter that much to me. I can get the Goya with or without participating in this challenge.

Is Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives eligible for this challenge? According to Wikipedia, "The film was an international co-production between Apichatpong's company Kick the Machine, Britain's Illuminations Films, France's Anna Sanders Films, Germany's The Match Factory and Geissendörfer Film- und Fernsehproduktion and Spain's Eddie Saeta."

I'd say no, I've not seen it but it seems to be pretty much a Thai film.

I wasn't around for the French Challenge. Any other opinions on whether the challenge should be just Spain, or anything in Spanish?
I'm OK either way.

a separate Latin American challenge later makes sense as Brazil could be included.

I don't think it is.

On a side note, there's no reason for anyone to ever watch The Holy Girl. It's awful!
