ugh! so sorry to hear about the ceiling (though I'm guessing most everyone else is pretty relieved to see a change from the endless drought). Can't remember, do you own or rent?

i'm renting but gonna buy a place up the street. knock on wood but climate change seems to be giving us early and heavy monsoons so lowering the fire risk at least temporarily

After OldAle's non-appreciating mentioning of A Boy and His Dog (1975), I spontaneously gave this weird post-apo sci-fi a watch.
It takes place in 2024's (!) desert wastelands of ... Phoenix, Arizona.
This thread just always stays relevant, doesn't it.

We should start a betting pool on who among us will be the first to move to Arizona.

Well, it was honestly a toss up between Phoenix and Portland and the rest is history and beyond regret.

No, but I would never permanently move to the USA, unless i was being paid probably millions of euros or a different offer i wouldn't be able to refuse.

Arizona is a must though if you plan to travel to western USA. I don't have the finances to go though and even if i had, there are plenty of other destinations i first would go to before any other place in the USA. It won't happen soon and possibly, never.

Actually took a similar series of photos during one visit to Phoenix in the 80s. Very surreal. We were at the lookout on South Mountain when the storm started and moved from west to east, completely obscured the city. It lasted long enough that once the view was gone, it didn't make much sense to stay on top of the mountain. (No idea how long it takes for the air to clear.) It was very eerie driving back down into to city. Weren't entirely certain it would still be there, like we had just seen it erased. But it was still there.

Because it started as a spam topic by a bot

We can easily make it on topic again. You would never guess where the newest Spielberg flick, an autobiographical Academy Award winner prototype, takes place ..?:

There are so many good movies set in Arizona. There are two good movies about making it to the station on time to catch a train to Yuma. A Nic Cage movie about baby kidnapping that is set and filmed in Arizona even though the Arizona of the title is not a reference to the state of Arizona. All of John Ford's Monument Valley movies. And, of course, the underrated Will Ferrell dramedy Everything Must Go.
