DPS just missed the cut on my list. It isn't Weir's strongest work, but it does have a lot going for it. I'm of the belief that Robin Williams was not only watchable, but often excelled in more subdued roles where he wasn't blasting out his coke-fueled humor (he's just not very funny [as a comedian or actor]). I probably wouldn't like it as much if I wasn't a teacher myself, but hey, we all have our biases. ;)

Why reveal it slowly? Just wondering.

1) Because not all the pics are ready and
2) To promote discussion instead of just sending out a big list and have people not care about the 500 films in the middle.

I bet Mind Game would be much higher if it was more widely seen.

I'm sure you could say that for a bunch of films on the list. I've seen it, it's ok, but not my kind of thing. I'd bet the people who would most love it have seen it so I doubt not being widely seen is that big a deal for a film with inherently limited appeal, and which is well known in its niche.

Interesting, I think you're the first person I've encountered online who saw it and didn't really dig it. I certainly wouldn't have thought its appeal was especially limited or that it was well known by any standard, I mean it still isn't on an easily available, affordable DVD anywhere I can find.

I definitely don't think it's for everyone. I literally sat stunned throughout the whole movie and had no idea what to think of it. I'd never heard of it before, but it's also not my kind of thing anyway. I only watched it because it was on an IMDb list.

Why did you list it as a favourite then?

I did like it, but mostly just as a crazy visual experience. It didn't resonate much beyond that. It may not be well known by random people on the street but it's one of the go to non-Miyazaki anime films people recommend. I've seen plenty of people on other forums bring it up as a cool movie people should watch. That plus a high rating on imdb give it exposure among people on ICM, I'd expect. Availability is a minimal issue for people on this forum.

It has 35 checks out of 182 members on the ICM forum group. Some other movies with 35 checks: The Andromeda Strain, Bigger Than Life, The Marriage of Maria Braun, Dressed to Kill, House on Haunted Hill, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives.

Does anyone know of an easy way to find this without requiring like 40 clicks through ICMs paging system? I think it'd be interesting to look this up for a lot of the movies on the list.

... Because I liked it? Why else would I list it as a favourite :/ It's not my kind of thing because it's Japanese and animated, so I went in with low expectations, but found it very original and completely entertaining. But because it's so weird, I can see other people going 'wtf' and hating it, whereas I was like 'wtf' and loved it. I had to think about it afterwards because I had no idea what just happened, but I still loved every second of it.

Oh, OK. Your response made me think you didn't like it since you were explaining how it wasn't for everyone and that you didn't know what to make of it. I got confused.

I thought Mind Game had good animation with interesting animation techniques. Imo it's a must-see for anyone who's interested in animation. The film uses several different animation styles, so there were some that I liked more than others. The story, on the other hand, was less interesting imo. Overall I'd probably give it a 7.5/10. It's been awhile since I watched it, so I can't say much more than that.

If you liked Mind Game, I would recommend checking out FLCL if you haven't seen it already.

Damn it! Mind game was one of the films I wanted to watch before posting my list but I forgot to watch it... I love animation and especially japanese animation. Ill try FLCL too mjf314. Nice! The list starts with great additions to my watchlist.

Well, that's rather the point. But you are right, a lot of people doesn't like weird - not sure how many of them are on this forum though. It's just incredible, creative beyond belief and has so much surreal, wacky and visual joy. Glad you loved it, and I hope more people check it out because of it's placing on the list.

To be honest I was surprised to see I wasn't one of the voters, really great film, must have just missed the cut. I will agree with Timmy that it would be on more lists if it wasn't so underseen. Because as Lauren pointed out she had never heard of it before watching it, and though it is one of the bigger and more acclaimed non-Miyazaki's a lot of people seem to be a void when it comes to this part of cinema. But yes, as Peaceful is also 100% correct to state, the more movies are seen the more likely it is for it to join our list. As for his list the only one that really surprised me was Bigger THan Life, never thought of the rest as particularly well-seen movies.

I personally didn't like Mind Game at all (somehow just didn't do it for me) and would still recommend checking out FLCL. ;)

Dead Leaves is also similarly adrenaline filled fast moving never stopping pure insanity with creative art style as Mind Game and FLCL:

Ah, Starship Troopers, another great film that's not too far away from being on my top 1000. Very happy to see it here, certainly deserved. And as far as futuristic fascist war time propaganda goes I'm sold, let's go kill those bugs!

Well, I made a mistake and accidentally posted Dead Poets Society, so I changed it from #1000 to #1001. I made another mistake though, so I emailed a couple people to see how important this mistake was and if I should just go ahead. Otherwise, I have some tweaking to do until I post the next film(s). Then it should go pretty fast after that.

BTW - does anyone want to post some of the results and I can give them a range of stuff to post? I highly doubt I'm gonna be thrilled enough to post the results to all 1000 films. Lemme know.... and let me know how many you want to post. It'll be the same format: pic, # of film, name of film with IMDB url, year, director, points, voters. But I have all that info already, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I want to help too. But I can't take more than 50 movies (my internet connection is not very reliable, so I can't make a larger commitment).

What kind of format are they in? If you have all the data in a simple format like a CSV file I could write an app that generates the forum bbcode for each entry that you can just copy/paste. PM me a small sample file (10 rows is enough) and I'll see what I can do.

Haven't even heard of Mind Game before (I'm pretty ignorant with anime) but it looks interesting. Bodes well for the list and getting some new recommendations

Haven't seen any of the three films so far relieved, though Dead Poets Society have been on my laptop for a while.

Yeah, I hadn't heard of Mind Game either -- I've found the discussion on it interesting.

I think if you were aiming to complete the imdb lists then more than likely will have come across it before. I saw mighty's comment saying she sat stunned so I wanted to see what made her sit stunned!

I also never heard of Mind Games. Which is surprising, cause I usually like animes and it looks quite like my kind of stuff.
I immediately added it to my watchlist, so I'll likely see it sometime 2014 ;)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

#1001: I think it is a quite mediocre film that don't stand out in any way. The atmosphere felt artificial and the music was just plain annoying. Hard to see any good qualities in this one.
