2 - get bronze on the <400 list : 62 movies to check.

3 - Get bronze medals on the following lists : LoveHKFilm.com's The Best Hong Kong Films Ever, Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time, Sight & Sound's 75 Hidden Gems, Grindhouse Cinema Database's Top Grindhouse Classics, Guldbagge Award - Best Swedish Film

4 - Finish iCM Forum's Favourite French Films list : https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/icm+ ... htysparks/ (3 films to watch), and then start on the Bertrand Tavernier list https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/bert ... es/beavis/ (92 films to watch)
Let's see the progress since the beginning of 2022...
1 - Still 41 films to check. Progress, but still a lot of movies to watch... Very slow progress here.

2 - 51 films to check before bronze on the 500<400 list. Only one check since last time, humph...

3 - Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time is done.
I will need to work on the 4 other lists. Yeah, well, let's...

4 - 2 more films to watch on the forum french list, and then it will get updated... :P

1. Bronze on 20 new lists (currently at 90)
2. Bronze on Halliwell, David Thomson, and TimeOut mega lists specifically (27, 42, and 48 needed on each respectively)
3. Rank in the top 5000 for every list (missing 9 lists currently)
4. Platinum on 3 remaining AFI lists (Passions, Laughs, and Cheers)
5. Keep watching movies!
Update through first two months of the year:

1. Bronze on 20 new lists (currently at 94 (+4))

New Bronzes were A.V. Club's The New Cult Canon, BFI's 360 Classic Feature Films Project, Butler's Fantasy Cinema, and Slate's The Black Film Canon

2. Bronze on Halliwell, David Thomson, and TimeOut mega lists specifically (24 (+3), 40 (+2), and 45 (+3) needed on each respectively)

3. Rank in the top 5000 for every list (missing 6 (+3) lists currently)

This one is going to be quite easy. I may even change this to be a top 4000 rank on every list by end of year to give myself more of a challenge.

4. Platinum on 3 remaining AFI lists (Passions, Laughs, and Cheers)

Not a lot of progress on this goal. I'll be able to prioritize these lists more over the summer.

5. Keep watching movies!

Definitely a success here. Sci-Fi challenge in January, Black Film challenge in February, and Women Director challenge in March is keeping me focused and excited to watch movies every day.

filmbantha wrote: January 2nd, 2022, 8:53 pm This is the first time I've shared my goals on the forum so hopefully this will give me extra motivation to make progress on the lists I am currently focusing on. I am aiming to watch a hundred films from each of the five categories below, which will be made easier due to many crossover films that fit more than one of these categories:

1. 100 films on 10+ lists (201 checks remaining)
2. 100 films from TSPDT's 1000 Greatest Films (366 checks remaining)
3. 100 films from TSZDT's 1000 Greatest Films (378 checks remaining)
4. 100 films from Doubling The Canon (734 checks remaining)
5. 100 films from ICM Forum's 500<400 (297 checks remaining)

There is a large crossover of unchecked films for me on both 1 & 2 and 4 & 5 so I think I could potentially finish this goal by watching somewhere around 350-400 films. I managed to watch 538 films in total during 2021 so I'm hoping this will be achievable with enough wiggle room for me to watch plenty of films that don't relate to these goals as well.

As the above lists will be updated during the year, I'm counting the films that I watch during the year for this goal (even if they leave the list at a later date) as opposed to working towards a certain number of remaining checks on each list.
Over two months in and I've started to realise my goals were a bit ambitious. My viewing habits shift focus every few weeks or so, as I like variety in my films, so these goals have felt quite restrictive at times. Still, I've made steady progress towards my goals, maybe watching 50 from each list would have been more manageable. Here is the number of films I've watched from each of the lists I'm working on:

1. 7 films on 10+ lists (194 checks remaining)
2. 10 films from TSPDT's 1000 Greatest Films (356 checks remaining)
3. 31 films from TSZDT's 1000 Greatest Films (347 checks remaining)
4. 0 films from Doubling The Canon (734 checks remaining)
5. 3 films from ICM Forum's 500<400 (294 checks remaining)

One thing that I should have set as a goal for this year is to review every film I have watched. I didn't know if I would be able to keep it up but I have managed it up to now. I take my hat off to fellow forum members Sol & Onderhond and any others who share regular write-ups. It sure takes a lot of effort but it's a good feeling knowing you have jotted your thoughts down about each film you watch and I enjoy scanning through the reviews that are shared on the forum, maybe I should share more of mine...

I haven't, I follow these lists quite closely and try to keep track of the films that I am planning to watch in a spreadsheet I have made. If you can point me in the direction of the Script that would be appreciated though, it sounds like it would be a pretty useful tool to check out and might make things easier for me.

It's part of the very useful ICM enhanced script

It only works from the official home page so i made it work on the last 4 of your lists.

Here's the result :

36 unchecked movies appear on at least 2 of these lists:
Doubling the Canon
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films
ICM Forum's 500<400
TSZDT's The 1,000 Greatest Ho…

Only films on 2 of thoses ... at least make sure you start with thoses ;)

I have version 2.0.3, which I think is the most recent. It's been worked on by both themagician and monk-time but both have since abandoned us. I still hope for their return.

I'm hitting a milestone birthday at the end of 2022, and I'll be crossing 4,000 films this year too, so I want to hit Bronze on all the big 1000+ film canon lists. The S&S update may make this a big challenge.
  • 1001 BYD - Bronze already achieved, just need to maintain it after the annual update
  • David Thomson - 110 to go
  • Halliwell - 73 to go
  • Sight & Sound - 18 to go
  • The Guardian - 40 to go
  • The New York Times - 70 to go

Small progress this quarter. I've got 1 film left to hit bronze on TSPDT, so that'll be done this month probably. Need to hit more films on more lists if I'm going to hit those big bronze goals; 40 spots in 3 months won't be enough to hit it by the end of the year. Also knocked off 2 of the last 5 directors on my list, and I might hit the other three this quarter. Only 4 films to go to the Top 10,000 on TSZDT, but that might increase with the annual update this quarter. :/

Not having a lot of specific goals is quite freeing. I haven't seen that many great films yet this year, but I've also dropped down to less than one film a day, which is nice, and I suspect it will drop even further now that the nice weather is just around the corner.

- complete Akira Kurosawa's favorite films' list
- complete 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list
- complete iCheckmovies Most Favorited list, that is, HOPING to complete this, since that stupid inclusion of the UNAVAILABLE The Clock messes with my and others' completion goal
- attempting to complete selective lists like Kinema Junpo and BIFF's Asian Cinema 100
- reach 250 checks from the Hidden Gems' top 500

- watch more from certain directors' filmographies, mainly Yoshishige Yoshida, Marta Meszaros, Satyajit Ray, Manoel de Oliveira, Yasuzo Masumura, Lino Brocka, Yasujiro Ozu, Kira Muratova, Seijun Suzuki and Jacques Rivette
- watch more from Brazil, India, Italy, Egypt, Canada, Turkey, Portugal, Philippines, Romania and ex-Yugoslav countries

- contradict smartass Greek (and international) "cinephiles" who have no idea about cinema and art, due to them refusing to do their research, preferring to steadily remain shallow in their viewpoints

beavis wrote: January 2nd, 2022, 9:45 pm Things I want to do for sure this year is:

1. Hungary. 2. Italy. 3. India. 4. Japan.

with the challenges I decided to do the following
januari: germany/austria/switzerland
februari: world weird
april: doubling

1. See more from my Netflix watchlist
2. Go for about 20% of all movies watched to be by female directors!
So the first quarter of the year is already gone
I've done the German challenge, the Weird challenge and the Female director challenge so far
this month I'm taking a break of challenges, but not for lack of motivation, Doubling, Ibera and 90's are all topics high on my watchlist. It is just a question of timing

- 65/237 movies I've seen had female directors, so that is about 27% so far, but the female director challenge has boosted this of course... still 20% at the end of the year seems doable.
- I've seen 10 Netflix films... that is only 3 a month on average, still need to focus on this more and might do a personal "Netflix challenge" somwhere in the year, although that would mean a pretty strong break from my regular viewing... style.
- Japan is currently my top country with 47 films, so that is going well, I'm at 9 for Italy and Hungary and India are even below that. Unexpectedly (thanks to the weird challenge) HongKong and China are doing really well in my viewings, I'm really motivated to go on with that, and combine this with my aim of exploring Malaysian and Singaporean movies.

- Top directors so far are Clair (5), Lubitsch (4) and Zeze (3)
- for actors it are Shintarō Katsu (8) after getting into the Zatoichi box set and Kazuhiro Sano (5) an omnipresent actor in the late 80's and 90's pinku scene (Zeze and Sato for instance). Harry Liedtke and Pola Negri aren't far behind with 4 each, from the German silents I explored in Januari.

- 15% of my watches were in cinema so far, still on the low side due to lockdown consequences, and when I look at the release schedule for the coming months I see a lot of titles I've already seen (either at festivals when cinema's have been open or at home when I thought the title would not get released anymore due to overflowing "product", so It is very possible I might not get this back up to my regular 30%

Hopefully I've got some more Hungarian and Indian watches done at the next update and maybe I'll join the HK/China challenge in May. On the whole I'm happy with the choices I'm making. I've been really motivated and watched way more than my usual average (for a while now already...)

Progress update:
I've seen 3 C-dramas and 1 Thai drama.
Update: I've seen 3 anime, so that's 7 watched, 13 to go (6 to go for the specific types of series).

Let's see the progress since the beginning of 2022...
1 - Still 41 films to check. Progress, but still a lot of movies to watch... Very slow progress here.

2 - 51 films to check before bronze on the 500<400 list. Only one check since last time, humph...

It's been a while since I checed on my film goals for 2022. Let's see how things go...
1 - 37 more films to watch. This is certainly progress. Slow, but steady, progress.

2 - 46 films to go. I won't reach bronze before the next poll, but there has been progress here as well. That's nice.

3 - LoveHKFilm.com's The Best Hong Kong Films Ever

Sight & Sound's 75 Hidden Gems - Still 4 more films to watch
Grindhouse Cinema Database's Top Grindhouse Classics - Still 3 more films to watch

I'm working on Guldbagge right now, and hope to reach bronze by the end of the month.

4 - 1 more film before it's done.

Ok, I didn't do too bad; I guess.

In regard to the site, I've currently got 98 awards with 6 platinums. I think gaining (and keeping) 20 more platinums is within reach. Gaining 10 new bronze awards is also possible but might be a bit more of a challenge. Any new lists will likely change these numbers of course.

I'd also like to make some progress on my tv backlog, but don't have any definite numbers on that.
I've met 2 of the 3 goals that I set.

I now have 28 platinums, 22 more than when I set the goal at 20 new ones. I am one film away from #29 and am within 7 films on 15 other lists.

I have 109 awards so I've gained 11 new bronzes with several others that are 3-5 films away.

The Academy Award Challenge in February helped me a lot with my goal of reaching 95%. The New Releases Challenge, 1990s Challenge, and Western Challenge each helped to a lesser extent. I'm currently 92% complete and am 120 films away from reaching 95%. With the unofficial challenge coming up in July and most of the films left on my list being unofficial, I have a pretty good chance of reaching 95% by the end of July.

I've also knocked a lot of tv series off of my backlog with the Science Fiction, New Releases, and 1990s Challenges, though it was just the tip of the iceberg as far as that is concerned.

I'm not going to set any other goals for this year beyond reaching the 95% (or higher) on the Academy Award list, but I'll probably work on getting some of the films on 15+ lists watched and will work on getting close to Top 2500 on all lists, though I need 54 films on the TSZDT list and I am not much of a horror fan, so we'll see.

I don't have many tangible film goals left. For quite awhile, I had a fantasy of whittling down my features watchlist to 50 titles. It's now 37. And I have few remaining hopes of rising any further in the rankings, and aiming for the top 100 (I'm #102) isn't too meaningful anyway due to 20-25 "dark" users who outrank me in theory.

Lists I directly work on, off and on
366 Weird Movies 335/366
Amos Vogel's Film as a Subversive Art 468/599
Golden Foundation of Czech and Slovak Cinema 52/112
ICM Forum's 500<400 194/500
The Criterion Collection 1115/1365
The Criterion Collection's Eclipse Series 106/184
The Spaghetti Western Database's Essential Top 50 Films 21/50 (when I hit Bronze, that's good enough)
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films 936/1005
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films: 1001-2000 658/1000

honorable mention
Academy Award - Best International Feature Film 51/74
Academy Award - Best Picture 82/95
Doubling the Canon 318/1000
Kinema Junpo's Top 200 Japanese Films 69/199
Paul Rotha's Silent but Not Forgotten 217/338
Silent Era's The Top 300 Silent Era Films 204/304
TSPDT's 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films 608/1001

For awhile in the past, I had a goal to see every short on at least a certain number of ICM lists, but all the excessive Oscar lists and lists related to forum polls wrecked that. It's not a worthwhile pursuit anymore.

Now that the year is halfway done (how??), let's see how I'm progressing with my goals:

Complete six Safaris
UGH. This one isn't happening. I've been stuck on Inyo County since November. Why? because any free time, where I'm not super depressed and just sad scrolling, I try to spend on writing up our adventure of June 2021 - where we visited 27 National Park units. I'm about halfway done with this project, but its eating up free time that I would otherwise spend doing Cinema Safari research. I know its possible to do both, but I'm trying to get this specific project over and done with, so that I can move on with my life and get back into Safari action again. I'm hoping to make some good progress this weekend, but I know it will still be awhile before it's complete, and until then, I'm kinda stuck. It's so far taken over a year to write this shit, but I will get it done, hopefully in 2022 - and then I'll unleash the brakes on Cinema Safari and finally complete Inyo County, ARGH!

-Compete in one challenge a month (and not come in last place)
I have so far completed this goal successfully! I have participated in at least one (and sometimes two!) challenges, and so far, I have not come in last. Granted, the majority of the reasons is that for some reason, each challenge, someone posts an entry once and then forgets about it, whereas everyone else is hard at work. So all I have to do is beat the person who forgot about the challenge. Its quite funny that this happens every month like clockwork, but I'm super grateful to these people's forgetfulness, as it allows me a chance to compete against the bottom rung. But then somehow I made it to 6th place out of 18 competitors in the Religion/Cult/Sorcery challenge! So I'm quite happy with the way this goal is turning out, and I'm having a blast participating in these challenges - as they really tailor our watchings each month and give us an aim and purpose and goal - to see as many films of X theme - it's all rather exciting! BTW - I have no idea how some of you see 150+ movies in a single month... like does your brain even process what you've seen, or are you too focused on the next film like an addict?

-Participate in at least one poll a month
I actually failed this for June - because I couldn't participate in 2021 or New Zealand; and I don't do those IMDB list polls, so I skip those. But other than June, I've done a poll for each month, and I'm quite happy with participating in them, as it's fun to see what other people bring to the film potluck - what bars and hotdishes are served by interesting folks with diverse opinions, and I'm glad to be amongst them! So thanks for letting me participate in the polls.

-Continue posting short-form reviews for everything I watch + posting them in the weekly viewing threads
I have done this so far with everything we've watched - and I am tremendously proud of it too. I might always be a little late to the weekly threads, but I do eventually post a short form review for everything and add the review + screenshot at the weekly thread. You can see my progress / links to reviews in the 2022 Film Log - which I keep up to date. Of all my 2022 goals, this is the only one that really matters to me. As I was expecting to lose steam and stop caring and give up at some point, but so far that hasn't happened - and I am continuing well and happily with my reviews. They might not be very good, but they mean something to me, and I've been instructed by Apollo to continue writing them, for change is abreast one day my friends, and I think they will mean something one day.

-Get at least five new ICM awards
I can't see this happening honestly. We had a goal at one point to watch "listy" movies, but my partner never took it up that seriously. It was supposed to be like a movie club we would have each week - where we'd both separately watch a high caliber film and then discuss it afterwards, but so far that hasn't happened - as we're still stuck on Magnificent Ambersons. So I don't see us making any awards progress anytime soon, let alone five, even if that only requires watching five movies at this point. But yeah, I will carry this goal into 2023. But for now I think I'll change the goal into getting ONE new non-IMDB award.

-Keep rewatching stuff backwards from November 2021, so that I can make more short reviews /screenshots/psychotic-analyze them
I have made slow but steady progress in this regards. I finished October 2021, and am now trying to aim to watch at least one film from April-September of 2021, so that I can add a new review + all the cataloging stuff that I do as well. It's actually quite fun - to see the progress being made on my spreadsheet and to revisit films I just watched a year ago - and see if my opinions change, as I've changed so much as a person in the course of a year. So I will continue to work backwards and make slow incremental progress each month to work backwards and see this stuff.

-Finish Star Trek Deep Space 9
84 episodes to go, sigh. We used to go through a 26 episode season in less than a month, and now we've only watched six episodes in six months. It's because we used to just settle down with a Star Trek episode each night, and we haven't done that in awhile, mostly due to our living situation now, so I'll be lucky if we finish Season Four at this point (6 episodes left). Unless something radical changes, there's no way I'm completing this goal this year, alas. This will be carried forth as my 2023 goal then, and hopefully we make better progress then. So my new goal for the remainder of the year is to finish Season Four.

-Stay alive and out of the hospital
I have somehow survived this long into the year without having had to sleep in a ward bed or a coffin, so I'm super glad for that. There have been a lot of question marks and worries about this - what with now having two clinical psychologists and letting them know the severity of my symptoms - I was convinced that the one would hospitalize me. But alas, I think they can see me as temporarily functioning, and ignore all the other assorted hellscapes that I experience daily. I think my care team has just gotten used to psychosis and realize that I'm not a danger to myself or others, I'm just living in a world, terrified of everything around me as it's like living in a nightmare or a scary horror movie at times - only it's real to you.
So I guess I'll count my blessings that I've gone this long without being clinically detained - which I'm honestly surprised by, as the severity can be terrible at times, but alas, because I can appear rational at times, I must be OK to carry on with my daily existence. The next threat to it all is a potential medication change, which in the past was horrible (stuff like not sleeping for three days in a row + becoming extremely manic). So idk what's to come, but I've gotten through some absolutely fucked up stuff so far, so I must be surviving alright then.

Four out of Eight goals sustained so far, so I'm pretty proud of myself for making it this far with everything. I was rather ambitious at the beginning of the year, and I now know too much about the universe, but I will continue working on these goals, and maybe accomplish the other four as well, to be seen. :pinch:

3 - Get bronze medals on the following lists : LoveHKFilm.com's The Best Hong Kong Films Ever, Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time, Sight & Sound's 75 Hidden Gems, Grindhouse Cinema Database's Top Grindhouse Classics, Guldbagge Award - Best Swedish Film

4 - Finish iCM Forum's Favourite French Films list : https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/icm+ ... htysparks/ (3 films to watch), and then start on the Bertrand Tavernier list https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/bert ... es/beavis/ (92 films to watch)

Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time - Done !
Sight & Sound's 75 Hidden Gems - Still 4 more films to watch
Grindhouse Cinema Database's Top Grindhouse Classics - Still 3 more films to watch
Guldbagge Award - Best Swedish Film - Still 2 more films to watch

I'm working on Guldbagge right now, and hope to reach bronze by the end of the month.

4 - 1 more film before it's done.

Ok, I didn't do too bad; I guess.
1 - 37 still... I certainly didn't do well on that goal...

2 - 45 more checks, that's really not fantastic, well.

3 - LoveHKFilm.com's The Best Hong Kong Films Ever - 3 more films to watch
Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time - Done !
Sight & Sound's 75 Hidden Gems - Still 4 more films to watch
Grindhouse Cinema Database's Top Grindhouse Classics - Still 3 more films to watch
Guldbagge Award - Best Swedish Film - Done !

Well, I've done Guldbagge this month, that's not too bad... Let's see if I can work on the rest...

4 - Yayy ! It's done. I'm switching to the Tavernier list, and that means catching up with a lot of movies (90 movies to watch)

So I did good on my #3 & #4 goals, so that's not too bad. But it's time to start watching horror movies again...

1. Hungary. 2. Italy. 3. India. 4. Japan.

with the challenges...

1. See more from my Netflix watchlist
2. Go for about 20% of all movies watched to be by female directors!
So the second quarter of the year is already gone, past the halfway point!

- 112/445 movies I've seen had female directors, so that is about 25% so far, still going great.
- I've seen 11 Netflix films... slowing down a lot, because my focus remains elsewhere... like on a challenge again this coming month...

- Top countries so far are USA and France (without trying, 71 and 55 respectively), followed by Japan (53), Germany (50), HongKong (47) which all have been my focus. Last month I finally had time for a deeper dive into Hungary, the counter is at 14 films so far, but I have at least 30+ lined up that should be watched this year too. India is slowly happening too. I'm at 9 for the country at the moment but have a whole bunch lined up for this month and much more for the rest of the year too.
- Top directors are 5 for Ann Hui and Rene Clair and 4 each for Meszaros, Zeze, Tam, Hong, Lubitsch and Petit. I need to give more time to Swanberg, Jansco, Ray, Aravindan, Zhang, Wajda and maybe a few others to catch up.
- for actors I really got into Anita Mui with 11 movies seen and still a few lined up!!! actually most of my top10 watched actors are from HongKong... small world with a lot of the same faces popping up everywhere.

So,
still making nice progress on all my goals, but I do have to pay some extra attention to Netflix at some point, maybe
happy with the extra focus I took on HK and China, even though it does give less room to the many other plans I already had
I have been looking at Poland a bit in the last month, and I do also still want to do more from Italy , but at some point choices need to be made... for now I'll keep the focus on Japan, India and Hungary though and see how much room there's left... (I did see a handfull of "diva" movies last month btw)

Update: So far this year I've watched 4 anime, 2 J-dramas, 3 C-dramas, and 1 Thai drama, so 10 in total and halfway to my goal.

I'm slightly behind schedule because I also played several video games. It took me a long time to finish Persona 4.

A bit late with the update but I think I managed to get all the information accurate to the end of June. Watching was pretty steady but then nosedived in June when my computer problems began. TSPDT bronze was achieved as expected, but no major progress elsewhere. Q3 likely won't be much better, since as soon as I get my new laptop next month I'll be going on a two-week vacation and then the job hunt will begin again in earnest. I am hoping to hit up TIFF this September, though, since I'm underemployed, so while it won't likely contribute much to my goals here, I hope to see some great new films in cinema.

Only one watch (from the Grindhouse list). This month's challenge could be a good opportunity to catch up.

4 - Still 90 movies to watch on Tavernier's list, I've yet to start working on that new french list...

Overall a slow, but steady progress... I will mostly work on goal 3 and 1 this month.

Not really an 2022 Goal but i just finished the films on 2+ List : a few of them didn't have Subs but i still enjoyed them enought and catch the plot easilly.
I'm still considering updating my excel List to catch the lines wihout subbs but that would be an massive task... maybe for 2023 Goal ,)

All list on Top20 club could be my last 2022 Goal we'll see.

I saw someone (Blocho Maybe) talk about #silveronalllists ... that's a massive 994 films to watch away for me.

I'll do another big checkup at the end of this month
just wanted to commemorate that I rounded off August with exactly 600 film watched for the year! (there have been years in the past where I didn't reach that as a total!)

Amongst the 600 are 110 cinema visits and 148 films by female directors. Happy with the percentage of female directors, cinema visits are more usually around 30% for me, but I guess I've been watching a whole lot more at home, because I haven't gone less to the cinema...

I get no award for this, but I saw "Center Stage," "Bullitt," "The Great Escape," "The Son," "Passion" and "The Devil's Backbone" over the past couple of weeks and this pushes me over 80% seen of They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?'s top 2000. Now admittedly, if I restate that as "I've missed 400 of the world's greatest 2000 films," it doesn't sound nearly as impressive. :)

This was no personal 2022 goal for you. What an utterly misplaced posting, I am scandalized. :folded:

It was a coming threshold that I was aware of and looking forward to, though admittedly I failed to gorily carve it into my forearm as many other forum goal-chasers do.

And I'm one more over 80%, because I saw "2046" (TSPDT #894) last night.

Well...it's not really my sort of film, so my appreciation of it is rather academic and detached. I previously wrote a little something about it here:

My new goal (which I know I won't complete) is Silver on every list. Will also be my 2023 goal.

Here's my current progress since my last update:

1. Bronze on 20 new lists (currently at 98 (+8))

New Bronzes were Tim Dirks's 100+ Most Controversial Films, A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese, BFI's 100 Cult films, and IMDb's 2020s Top 50 (also achieved silver).

I don't think it's "cheating" to count the new lists. I will have to step up my pace if I want to complete this challenge, but also I feel confident I can get there. These lists are all within 10 checks of Bronze:

2 away - Akira Kurosawa, BFI's 100 Film Musicals, Quentin Tarantino

4 away - The Times's and Time Out's 100 French films

6 away - Cannes Palme D'or, Halliwell's Top 1000

8 away - 101 Gangster Movies, Academy Award Best International Film winners, BBC's 100 Greatest Women-directed films, BFI's 100 American Independents

9 away - David Thomson's list

10 away - Harvard Narrative films

So that's 13 right there, and I only need 12 more to hit my goal. Definitely doable as long as I don't slack off through the end of the year.

2. Bronze on Halliwell, David Thomson, and TimeOut mega lists specifically (6 (+21), 9 (+31), and 23 (+25) needed on each respectively)

Definitely doable. The only one that might be tough is the Time Out list, but I shouldn't have to much trouble knocking that one out.

3. Rank in the top 5000 for every list (missing 4 (+5) lists currently)

I was maybe a little optimistic last update. I still have 4 more to go to clear this goal. While I can absolutely finish this off, the problem is that these lists are at the bottom for a reason: I just don't have a lot of passion in checking out the films on these lists. Oh well, I'll eat my vegetables and get this one across the finish line before year end.

Still missing: 100 Greatest Australian films (rank #5046, 7/100), Korean Screen's 100 Greatest Korean Films (#5123, 8/100), Action Movies A-Z (#5438, 64/250), Cinema Tropical 2000-2009 (5/125, #5590).

4. Platinum on 3 remaining AFI lists (Passions, Laughs, and Cheers)

I've started to knock out the Laughs list, but yeah this is my biggest challenge left if I really want to get these platinums. It will really come down to how focused I want to be in finishing up the Passions and Cheers lists.

Current progress: Laughs (87/100), Passions (77/100), Cheers (75/100)

5. Keep watching movies!

Still so far so good. I fell off a little in July and August, but have plans to keep going in September and I think I'll be back into the form I was in earlier in the year.

2015 goals finished: none this quarter
2016 goals finished: 25 films from 1980
Specific directors seen: Bille August

Finished my final goal from 2016. Overall Q3 was slow and steady progress, with lots of Canadian films in July, and some great theatre watches in September. Hit my feature film target, but not progressing well on the canon lists, so I'll have to shift my focus. I have brought down the % of American films, though: I'm at 24% for the year so far (features only), which is far lower than any other year on record, I think, and my progress on other countries has been good as well. I'll hit my checks goal for sure, but will probably miss the shorts and official checks ones. Now to make a concerted effort to finish off some of these goals in the final quarter.
