iCM Forum Film World Cup - Season 4 - Records and Statistics

#1

Post by Mario Gaborović »

The tournament started on December 1st, 2019. This is how it works:
- Round 1: 32 countries will be divided into 8 groups of 4 countries. #1 and #2 from each group proceed. Each match lasts for 4 weeks. Matches overlap 1.5 weeks.
- Round 2, quarter finals, semi finals and final: Countries compete one on one. Winner proceeds.
- Each match lasts for 2 weeks. Matches overlap 0.5 weeks

There are few restrictions:
- The film must have <1000 checks on iCM.
- The film must be no longer than 3 hours.
- You may only use 1 film per director throughout the entire tournament.

Voters are obliged to watch all four films from a specific group in order to vote by a ranking system (1-4). The countries that end at 1st and 2nd place proceed to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
- Ranked by lowest average case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
- In case there’s still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between three or four movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? Fewest #4-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #3 and #4).

I'm glad China is last this season. Nothing at all against Chinese cinema, just that that particular film was garbage and can't possibly be representative of the quality of their film industry. I missed a few rounds, but Secrets of the Heavenly Book just has to be the worst movie in the bunch.

Can't wait to see all the films in the remaining rounds!

Remarkably, France is yet to make final 8 after 4 attempts.
10th the highest placement.
Polska lowest placement is 9th.
Placing 26th, Magyarorszag (AKA Hungary) lost its top 15 run.
Romania skipped WC despite being a constant top 20 presence.

Oh yeah Australia and Portugal finally finished in top half or at least thereabouts.
