I enjoyed the film, although it's not a favorite of mine. I've now seen seven Andrzej Wajda films and this film is tied with two others for the film of his that I've rated the highest.

Surely Kanal is one of the two?

I enjoyed it, and I thought the acting and directing were excellent, yet somehow it felt like something was missing. I'm not sure. Maybe it was just the single-mindedness of the narrative, which pointed in only one direction and kept hammering the same point. Of the eight Wajda movies I've seen, I would put it only above Danton and maybe Man of Iron.
