It’s a compilation film similar to the Gundam 0079 features etc. Looked like no new animation was done.
Sounds interesting enough, guess I'll have to pursue it :)

25. Anne of Green Gables: Road to Green Gables (Isao Takahata, 2010) should this be classified as a rewatch? I did see the show 7 years ago or so.
So what is it you watched? Is it just the TV show or is their some film-version of it? I've seen this being credited to Takahata before, but never really figured out what exactly it is supposed to be :)
It’s a compilation film similar to the Gundam 0079 features etc. Looked like no new animation was done.
I wouldn't classify it as a rewatch. It has a separate entry on imdb from the TV series. And just the act of editing down the series technically makes it different content.

04. Koroshi no rakuin, by Seijun Suzuki (1967) 5/10

I really didn't get into it. There's a lot of intent to undermine expectations, but I found it very silly...

05. Family Romance, LLC, by Werner Herzog (2019) 8/10

A very interesting movie about truth and lies in today's Tokyo.
I'm considering it as japanese because of the japanese language & actors, japanese setting, and japanese script.
But I see the funding is American (imdb) or german (wikipedia) and of course the director is a german director living in the United Stated, so I will follow any ruling against it being japanese, anyway any viewer interested in Japan will be interested by this unusual theme.

9. Shima wa moratta [Retaliation] (1968): 7.2
10. Urufu gai: Moero ôkami-otoko [Wolfguy: Enraged Lycanthrope] (1975): 5.5 - Sonny Chiba as a werewolf fighting gangsters and a tiger spirit; what can I go wrong? Unfortunate a lot :/ . For a movie with such a premise it's surprisingly dull. The script is horrible mashup of bizarre clashing plot elements , the action mediocre at best and the direction second-rate.

Actually, scratch what I said about not guessing the movies. I think the last image is from Takashi Miike's Yakuza Apocalypse. I remember seeing a similar image when looking for Miike movies.

And the bottom left one is from Shoplifters.

The 14th one is Patema Inverted.

And the 13th one is from A Scene at the Sea.

If anybody is wondering why I have posted nothing here over the past week and a half, it is because I have been catching up with this Japanese anime series and I am still not sure what exactly to make of it. I am usually a big science fiction fan, but all of the evil alien and robotics stuff went over my head and I generally found the action scenes to be loud and chaotic. The series features some amazing characters though, and I actually much preferred this as a coming-of-age tale, focused chiefly on the identity crisis felt by a teenager chosen to be a pilot to stop the aliens. The series is very much about how socially awkward he feels at school, his shyness around girls and his inability to tackle conflict, always going into apology mode whenever somebody else is upset. Then there is his estranged father and his questioning of whether he is only becoming a pilot to gain his father's approval, and then whether he continues flying to gain the approval of others. However, there is also a female teenage pilot who gradually gets more focus in the final few episodes as she has all sorts of weird flashbacks to the past and events that have shaped her into the aggressive, easily irate person that she is. It is all really quite a rich tapestry for what essentially seems to be an alien invasion series. Oh, and there is a weird pet penguin that gets freaked out whenever the male protagonist experiences movement below the waistline. And then the final episode has some of the weirdest Matrix type existential stuff that I have seen in a long, long while. Looks like I can finally watch The End of Evangelion now and gain nine Official List checks...

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

16. Seppuku (Masaki Kobayashi, 1962) - 10/10
Gripping from start to end.
17. Gokudô daisenso [Yakuza Apocalypse] (Takashi Miike, 2015) - 7/10
Frog man, best character ever.
18. Tora no o wo fumu otokotachi [The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail] (Akira Kurosawa, 1945) - 5/10
Even if it's only an hour long, it still managed to feel half an hour too long. There's this comic relief character that receives most of the screen time, and he, unlike Frog man, is the worst ever.

FTV:12:Stray Cat Rock: Beat '71 (1971) 6

Although a softer image than the other flicks, Arrow still present a good transfer of a clean soundtrack and well-paced subtitles.

Rocking the stray cat for the final time, returning co- writer Hideichi Nagahara is here joined by Tatsuya Asai in finishing the franchise by taking the biggest departure from the recurring themes of the others. Making all-women gangs be the main link each SCR shared, the writers oddly decide here to move the men to the front, leaving to a loss of the urgent atmosphere which gripped the others,as it is here replaced by the would- be girl gang now being part of a hippie community lead by Yoshitaro, who gets entangled with the son (who did a murder) of a politician, after hippie Furiko (a cute Meiko Kaji) is arrested for the crime. Concluding the theme of protesting against the Vietnam war with a wonderfully strange, unsettling image of kids playing at war, returning director Toshiya Fujita, & cinematographer Kenji Hagiwara bring out flourishes of the past in bright zoom-ins on the hippies commune, but appearing to be on a lower budget, are sadly able to bring back the distinctive stylisation for the flat attempt by the gang to rescue the rocking stray cat.

The existential final fifteen minutes here are certainly quite exquisite as the protagonist questions the nature of dreams and reality; for the most part though, the film focuses on the evil beings, robots and their battles - which was always the least interesting part of the TV series. As a character study and coming-of-age tale, the film has nothing on the series, and neat as some of the WTF imagery is, this entry felt a little superfluous to me.

Without titles and intended to be screened with a live narrator, it is hard to follow what is going on in this Japanese silent film. Set inside an insane asylum though, any such confusion is thematically appropriate, adding a nightmarish feel to the proceedings and with everything from distortion to dissolve special effects and shadows/lighting to play with whether the husband or wife appears imprisoned, the movie is a visual assault on the senses.

It's really a special kind of terrible that comes with a movie that looks to offer T&A but has multiple shower scenes with the women wearing their bikinis in the shower, a confusing plot that mixes very poorly shot fake-looking found footage (at times it seems to mimic the Ringu video for reasons unknown to me), the plot of Psycho and of course Jaws itself but with very little actually shark and death scenes where it isn't even clear if anyone died.

It has a 1.5/10 on IMDB which feels about right.
