I think I have four or five from that list!

Yeah...will be great to see the actual 100, right? I'll start posting tomorrow if all goes well.

I just hope Wong kar-wai and Godard are in the top ten. If so, I will be a happy man. I haven't even slightly looked at every one else'e votes so I have no idea.

Only watched Satantango and Werckmeister Harmonies. Both displayed scenes and set-pieces worthy of a genius, but both also contained a lot of set-backs and contrasting levels of craftmanships, granted far less so in Werckmeister which is a really good film. It could just have been the task of Satantango, but a lot of the visuals were often plain and subpar, particularly in many of the walking shots. He keeps many scenes going for far too long, to the point where the intensity simply runs off - see for example the scene in Werckmeister in which the camera uses plausibly a minute to round the corner of a wall to reveal the character. The audience has, or should have realized what we were going to see long before the revelation, making the extreme build-up work against it's intent. From what I have seen this far he hasn't fully realized the potential of the style he was using - or perhaps I simply want him to turn into Tarkovsky

But I can certainly see him tackling a masterpiece, and I hope that, as I explore his filmography further, will find work that I will place among my favorites.

Edit: Is this going to be one name per day or smth?

Boohoo!

And to answer your other question: I need to post an average of 12.5 directors per day in order to get to the top directors by Christmas, so...not just one per day.

I am going to be pretty much busy all day today, so we might start out slow. But don't worry. The other days will go faster.

Kaspar, well, they counted down the results on another forum I was on. I could post it all at once but that would be anticlimactic.

PeacefulAnarchy, Sorry, I don't want to kill you! It's kind of like kids having to wait until Christmas morning. For our European friends, they'll have to wait until Christmas afternoon.

Sweeney Todd is one of the worst films I have ever seen in my life, I gave it 1/10. I felt like someone had taken a dump on me for two hours. Just thinking about it makes me angry.

BTW, another reason for drawing this all out is so that each director can spawn its own discussion before the next one is posted. If a blob of 100 names is posted at once, some names might be passed over or ignored.

Can we then have a poll ranking the top 100 on attractiveness alone? I can bet you Hitchcock won't win that one :)

You can do that one. I'm sure there will be more female directors on that list.

An interesting list might be who we think the best or most important directors are. I would shudder at my own list. The people who I think important and the people I like are almost completely different.

I meant to rank the top 100 we just did.

I vote John Cassavetes and Paul Thomas Anderson on that one.

If we were ranking female directors, then Ida Lupino and Kathryn Bigelow would win for me.

The people who I consider important and my list wouldn't be that different.

Who knows. The first question that popped into my mind was if she, Sara Driver and Jim Jarmusch had a threesome. Oh well, who knows/cares?

Well if they watched Sleepwalk before hand there's very little chance of that.
