Do anyone use imdb's recommended feature?
How does IMDb choose the titles in the Recommended for you feature?
We take all of the movies and TV shows that you have either rated or added to your Watchlist and then compare your data to ratings made by other IMDb users. We can then find movies and TV shows that people with similar tastes to you like. For each recommendation, you can see a list of the movies or TV shows upon which the recommendation was based. You have either rated these titles highly, or added them to your Watchlist.
Anyone want to share their first 10?

02. Eighth Grade (2018)
03. Buchanan Rides Alone (1958)
04. Sunshine (2007)
05. Le mort qui tue (1913)
06. Ariel (1988)
07. Gone Baby Gone (2007)
08. Alexandre le bienheureux (1968)

My last 10/10 was a movie from 1919. It thought that was my reason, at least

7/12 of jvv's are from the silent era. I guess she has seen too many early cinema shorts, so IMDb thinks that's her favorite period.

I don't use IMDb-watchlist, so it only takes ratings into account.

1. Dunkirk (2017): on my iCM-watchlist
2. Mr. Bean: The Library (1990): huh? A Mr. Bean short I haven't seen? *goes to youtube* ...... Ah, that one. *goes to "Movies you just checked but saw a long time ago topic*
3. I, Tonya (2017): Not planning to see this, but if it pops up on Netflix or something, I'll watch it.
4. Komm, süsser Tod (2000): Never heard of this.
5. Koe no katachi (2016): Anime? IMDb clearly doesn't know me.
6. Hidden Figures (2016): 162820 ratings on IMDb. Why doesn't this ring a bell? Oh wait, an Oscar nominee for best picture? I've heard about it then, but I guess it hasn't been promoted a lot here, otherwise I would have remembered.
7. It (2017): Sure, I'll watch it's added to Netflix. Otherwise probably not.
8. Silentium (2004): Never heard of this.
9. Les brigades du Tigre (1974-1983): TV-series with 6 seasons? I'll skip it.
10. Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean (2012): Never heard of this.
11. Kenka erejî (1966): 60's. Japanese. Criterion. Kinema Junpo. Samurai. I'll bite.
12. Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995): I have a plan of one day finishing all the big lists on iCM, including the Times 1000, so eventually I'll watch this.

No, it's actually because during the CG freeleech I downloaded a lot of movies from the late 1910s/early 1920s and I use my Imdb watchlist to track what I've downloaded.

Albajos: 08. Alexandre le bienheureux (1968) is a recent worldcup film, you can ready a bit about it in the thread if you want.

jvv: 3. Fine mrtve djevojke (2002) aka Fine Dead Girls is the only one I've seen from that, and I'd recommend it.

Joachim: 12. Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) is one I finally got around to a few months ago, and it's awkward teen comedy done right.

Not bothering to add my list because it's meaningless: I have over 3,000 films on my watchlist right now, which I use to queue films that I need to add to my spreadsheet. The recommendations change quite frequently for me as a result, especially if I add a bunch of films from any given year/country/director to my watchlist. But I do glance at it from time to time to see if there's something to add to my list (but never as an actual recommendation of what to watch).

I loved Welcome to the dollhouse by Todd Solonz.
Not as good as Happiness (1998) but still very awkward indeed.

This is what IMDb is recommending to me as top 10. I do use the feature occasionally. It is no great shakes, basically in all those cases I've rated most of the films I've seen from those directors very highly. I don't always like Hong films, and although I rated a couple highly I often don't finish them (IMDb doesn't know that because I don't rate movies if I didn't finish them). Sofia is a bit of a curve ball, but looking into it by looking at the "like this" bit on the IMDb page for Sofia, basically a load of people who just watched the new Criterion Blu-ray of Julien Duvivier's Panique and rated it 10, also went to see Sofia at the cinema and liked it. I'm not rushing to see Sofia tbh. The "there will come soft rains" recco is probs because I rated a load of Soviet sci-fi very highly. It's not a hugely inspiring feature, but I do use it when I'm feeling lazy and not sure what to watch.

Rhythmus 21 (1929 - Hans Richter)
Sofia (2018 - Meryem Benm'Barek-Aloïsi)
Wet Hare (1962 - Robert McKimson)
Youth (2015 - Paolo Sorrentino)
Moonrise Kingdom (2012 - Wes Anderson)
Rehearsals for Extinct Anatomies (1988 - Quay Brothers)
Budet laskovyy dozhd / There Will Come Soft Rains (1984 - Nozim To'laho'jayev)
L'important c'est d'aimer (1975 - Andrzej Zulawski)
Grass (2018 - Hong Sang-soo)
Chungking Express (1994 - Wong Kar-Wai)

Not sure hgow the groups of 6 are ranked so I picked the first two sets. I never really look at these, but interesting combination. Casa De Lava and Roma are two I am likely to watch this year, will probably see Ralph Breaks the Internet as well.

Roma (2018, Alfonso Cuarón)
Maigret et l'affaire Saint-Fiacre (1959, Jean Delannoy)
Zen (2009, Banmei Takahashi)
Wildlife (2018, Paul Dano)
Pytel blech (1962, Vera Chytilová)
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018, Phil Johnston, Rich Moore)

A Run for Your Money (1949, Charles Frend)
Casa de Lava (1994, Pedro Costa)
Le rouge est mis (1957, Gilles Grangier)
Pasti, pasti, pasticky (1998, Vera Chytilová)
Poznacení tmou (1959, Stefan Uher)
The Green Man (1956, Robert Day, Basil Dearden)

I don't use this, they're mostly just films from directors I've seen recently, the "More Like This" feature on film pages is great though.

Juventude Em Marcha (2006, Pedro Costa)
Casa de Lava (1994, Pedro Costa)
Ta kourelia tragoudane akoma... (1979, Nikos Nikolaidis)
La résurrection des natures mortes (Living Still Life) (2012, Bertrand Mandico)

For me, it mostly appears to be made up of films from directors I've watched something from recently and films related or linked to recent additions to my watchlist. I keep an eye on what shows up but the selections mostly consist of films I'm already aware of and interested in. In that sense, I suppose one could say that it works as a feature.

Here are the first ten that appear for me today, with accompanying scores from 1 to 5 to denote the level of my interest in them:

'Fatto di sangue fra due uomini per causa di una vedova. Si sospettano moventi politici' / 1978, Lina Wertmüller - 3.5/4
'Naya Daur' / 1957, B.R. Chopra - 4
'Never Let Go' / 1960, John Guillermin - 2/2.5
'The River' / 1997, Ming-liang Tsai - 4
'Intermezzo' / 1936, Gustaf Molander - 3
'Rosie' / 2018, Paddy Breathnach - 2.5/3
'Ai no kusabi 1' / 1992, Katsuhito Akiyama, Akira Nishimori - 3
'Loyalties' / 1987, Anne Wheeler - 3
'Kashmir Ki Kali' / 1964, Shakti Samanta - 3.5/4
'Leona' / 2018, Isaac Cherem - 3.5

Pretty interesting selection. The last four are new to me.

Kyvadlo, jáma a nadeje (1984) - Svankmajer short
Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel (1987) - I loooovved the original when I saw it during the previous Canadian challenge
Asmaa (2011) - I favorite a couple of other recent Egyptian dramas dealing with women's issue recently
The Bell Boy (1918) - Keaton/Arbuckle short that I just haven't gotten to yet
Byôsoku 5 senchimêtoru (2007) - one of the two feature-length Shinkai films I haven't seen, and I favorited 2 of the films I have seen
Madame DuBarry (1919) - Lubitsch, probably the most significant of his German films that I haven't gotten to yet

Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story (2000)
El ataque de los muertos sin ojos (1973) - sequel to a film I watched & loved during the October challenges
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) - I guess this is here because I liked A Star is Born?
La noche de las gaviotas (1975) - another Blind Dead film
Zama (2017) - I've only seen one of the director's previous films, which I liked a lot but I think rated just 8 - and I'm a high rater - so not sure why this is here really
Rush: Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland (2011) - I watched the Rush doc that's on an official list last month, so I guess that explains this

Honestly not impressed - 4 of these are direct sequels to films I've seen, and the rest are all really obvious choices except for Zama. I have some interest in all of them except the Rush concert film - most likely that I'll watch The Bell Boy and the Shinkai films before anything else, unless I break down and pay to see the Queen biopic while it's still in the cinema, being the Oscar whore that I am.

Oh, imdb's recommendation layout looks very different than the last time I paid any attention to it. iirc, it used to at least explain why the title is recommended (something along the lines of because you viewed *insert title of another film*). Now, it doesn't say why the film is recommended. I'm disappointed.

The titles change all the time, whenever I log in, even if I haven't rated anything new. Right now, the first ten are:

1. Death of Yazdgerd (Beizai, 1982)
2. 100 Minutes of Glory (Matanic, 2004)
3. U Turn (Kumar, 2016)
4. A Girl in Australia (Zampa, 1971)
5. All for Free (Nuic, 2006)
6. Voyage to Cythera (Angelopoulos, 1984)
7. A Divina Comédia (de Oliveira, 1991)
8. Rondo (Berkovic, 1966)
9. Me, bebia, Iliko da Ilarioni (Abuladze, 1962)
10. The Beekeeper (Angelopoulos, 1986)

The Angelopoulos entries are probably popping up because I recently rated Eternity and a Day for the World Cup on a rewatch (I first saw the film several years ago) -- I am not consistent about rating all the films I see on IMDb.

Nope, I've never used it, I even had to google where to find it.

1. Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe - well yep, I love Brooker, and used to watch this when it was on TV, but never rated it...I miss the annual round up, he's too busy with that Mirror thing these days :(
2. Evil Genius - seen most of this miniseries (should really finish it), but also not rated
3. Grey's Anatomy - I've seen bits and pieces, not for me, surprised it's here
4. Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe - exactly the same as #1
5. Actor Martinez - how did they decide I'd like this? only has 88 votes
6. First Reformed - yep, keep meaning to see it

7. Alone We Fight - I have no idea why I'm being recommended this, the hell?
8. 24 Hours in Police Custody - uh, yeah I've caught this a couple of times, it's pretty good I guess
9. Mary Queen of Scots - some interest
10. Alone in the Wilderness Part II - yeah this sounds good, I think I watchlisted the first part when I stumbled across it
11. Sawdust and Tinsel - Bergman, sure
12. 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance - Haneke, of course, I've wanted to see it for ages

Some random things in there, and half of them are TV which is pretty surprising because I don't rate much TV stuff.

Edit: Actually, all of my "recent" ratings are for TV because I use Letterboxd for film now. That must be why.

1. Roma - will get to it in the coming weeks
2. Chugyeogja - sure
3. Kurenai no buta - it is kind of egregious that I haven't seen this, given my love for Miyazaki
4. Shin Seiki Evangelion - I've seen this actually, don't use IMDB for TV series
5. A Star Is Born (1976) - meh
6. Astérix et Obélix contre César - I've almost certainly seen this, just don't remember it well enough to rate it

7. Pink Floyd: P.U.L.S.E. Live at Earls Court - Love Pink Floyd but I don't have a huge interest in this
8. Joshua Tree 1951: A Portrait of James Dean - meh
9. Zerkalo / The Mirror - yes I do need to see that
10. Kairo - sure
11. Underground - sure
12. Papurika - sure
