The country that ends at 1st place proceeds to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
- Ranked by lowest average ranking.
- In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
- In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between all three movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? Fewest #3-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #2 and #3).

Here's a quick summary of how the tournament works

We start with 48 films from 48 countries. Each country has a manager who determines which movie will be watched. In the first round the countries are divided into 12 groups of 4. From each group the countries that end up at #1 and #2 proceed to the next round. In the 2nd round the 24 remaining countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3. The managers pick a new movie. The winner of each group proceeds to the next round. The final 8 countries compete one-on-one in the quarter finals (with a new movie of course) and so on till the final.

That's a NO but this weird round even I may vote it.

Indeed, I browsed by the genre and it turns out that docus have usually been losing, except on two occasions:

1) South Korea's Repatriation ended up 2nd out of 3 back in the Season 1. The film ranked below was Georgia's Lived Once a Song-Thrush;
2) Araya finished 2nd ahead of Cabascabo in the Season 2.

Honestly, I felt the same way. It's probably my least favorite film of the WC so far (sorry, Tommy.)

Anything over 55 in criticker is a positive rating for me. Birthplace also holds the same score and I prefer Thiti over it. So will have to wait for Ruka to decide whether Thithi makes the top spot for me or not.

No worries I just wanted to nominate the 2010s Indian films, instead of the usual suspects. So no problem if some gets bad rep.

Also this film is not from the major three film states of India: West Bengal, Maharashtra (responsible for Bollywood and Marathi film industry), Kerala (Malayalam film industry). Its from the lesser known Kannada film industry from the state of Karanataka. Their style and execution is slightly different from the others.

Decent round, but I do find it really hard to compare feature films and shorts.

for me it is easy, shorts always lose from features as a rule. Ruka is the most fun "movie" in this round, but it will never be a movie. (only a very select few like chien andalou or meshes of the afternoon can score big because of pure brilliance, those are 10's but most are lucky to get even a 7).

He was asked by the filmmakers to go back (for their film Academy graduation piece if i understood it correctly, an assignment that had to be about this topic). There is a lot the documentary doesn't show. This can be explained as a weakness, but i also found the minimalistic approach with fast pace refreshingly to the point...

My impression as well. Poland's treatment of its Jews during ww2 -- on levels large and small -- really is fascinating and covers every bit of the spectrum; heroism, barbarism, and the grey shades between.

It's crazy to me that some see Thithi as one of the worst films of this World Cup! I thought it was a brilliant village satire, and I was impressed by how rich the portrayal of the village was. I felt so immersed into this world portrayed, and the clash of widely different characters makes this one of the most fun films of the year for me. It narrowly beats Miejsce urodzenia, which was really thought-provoking for its short runtime.

I'm with you on Thithi. I really liked it. The humour and the way it portrays a small town and its values is amazing. I haven't seen Ruka, but I doubt it will beat Thithi as the best film of this round for me.
