iCM Forum World Cup - Season 3 - Round 2 schedule

#1

Post by joachimt »

Welcome to the schedule of iCM Forum World Cup - Season 3 - Round 2. If you don't know what this is. Read the preparation topic.

Rules in the second round:
- You must watch all 3 films of a match before you vote.
- To vote, rank the 3 films from most favorite to least favorite. (note: you're ranking the individual films, not the countries)
- Don't vote in this thread. Each match will have its own thread according to the schedule.
- The top movie of each group will proceed to the next round.
The winners of the match will be decided using these rules:
  • Ranked by lowest average ranking.
  • In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
  • In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between all three movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
  • Still a tie? Fewest #3-votes determines the winner.
  • Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #2 and #3).

There's two countries doomed with documentaries already:
China with an interesting title Please Vote for Me
and Poland got saddled with a near-short Miejsce urodzenia

I wouldn't count them out yet. Birthplace is actually pretty good. China? The title doesn't seem too subtle, does it?

Yeah, nothing is doomed, voters will decide. That’s what Please Vote for Me is about, a great piece of film and the meta title was just cherry on the cake. :whistling:

Strange how random selection works...big names competing in that first match.

seen 10/24
and group D in its entirety. Natvris Khe being the favorite for me there, and one of the strongest of those I've seen. But nothing bad anyway amongst any of them. Cool to have a Patrick Tam for Hong Kong, even if it's not my favorite of his movies.

Of the other 14 only Das Kaninchen bin ich was already on my watchlist. There are some movies in there I would not have go for myself and a few that got me interested. Most interested in Thithi and 10 Rillington Place I think. Going by titles on the Doubling list I should also really look forward to Alexandre le Bienheureux, Strawman, Birthplace and Rapt.

So, all in all, seems like a very solid selection!
Looking forward to it as always

I am happy to see Toon Wang here. it could be perfect if it was Wu yan de shan qiu(Hill of No Return).
And Alexandre le bienheureux is my favorite one from group A. It's nice to see a comedy here in WC.
And The Last Command is in 8 Official lists, that's a strong group.

Yeah, group F is weird. A short, a documentary near-short and a weird Indian comedy

Based on performances in the R1; Switzerland fell somewhere in the middle while Austria barely snatched Pot 3 slot.

we may be weird, but we love ourselves and that is all that matters.

poland's loss will fall right in the middle of my birthday period, which will make it even sweeter (srsly tho, i couldn't have had a better draw. there's no way a 47-min doc would have won in a typical round -- like if i was matched against pigs and battleships? forget it -- but in an oddball round there's an outside shot i guess).

really though just put it on your <400 list if you like it. exposure is all i want. i coulda went with hourglass sanatorium and cake-walked into the next rd, but why? no fun in that.

also please vote for me is amazing. i hope doc bias doesn't keep it from winning its match.

I haven't seen Hill of No Return. I did watch Red Persimmon on Thursday but I didn't like it as much as Strawman.

I think I'll vote for the documentaries, if only because I've already lost a few times (partly) because of the documentary bias.

Both docs really good though. They will most likely get my vote. If sebby goes through he should choose another short doc tehe

I love that one, too. But I think it's too breezy and care-free to win. Birthplace has a real dramatic oomph to it that I think will at least give it a puncher's chance.
