The countries that end at 1st and 2nd place proceed to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:

Here's a quick summary of how the tournament works

We start with 48 films from 48 countries. Each country has a manager who determines which movie will be watched. In the first round the countries are divided into 12 groups of 4. From each group the countries that end up at #1 and #2 proceed to the next round. In the 2nd round the 24 remaining countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3. The managers pick a new movie. The winner of each group proceeds to the next round. The final 8 countries compete one-on-one in the quarter finals (with a new movie of course) and so on till the final.

Just a heads up folks that there are two versions of Ward 6 by the same director. The 1973 version is black and white. The 1978 version is in colour.

Gotta be a mistake; it's actually a re-release of a TV movie which premiered in 1973, but since the lead actor died in 1978, I guess they thought to submit it to Cannes where it received Un certain regard.
It's a same film but I can't say whether the original was shot in b/w or not since I never saw it. The only difference is that Centar Film appears as second production, which means that the copy you watch truly is from 1978.
A single film released twice.

The subtitles are not perfect, but watchable. Since I wouldn't make new ones because of few errors, I'll just name them here so that when you watch you know what is it about:

1) The line: "If humanity get used to treat illnesses by pills and drops, it would completely neglect religion and philosophy, in which it found not only shield (not CHILD!) against its misfortunes, but the very happiness itself.

2) Another translator's mistake: on two occasions, the 'madman' refers to mandarins, but correct is tangerines - because mandarina is a Serbian word for tangerine, as funny as it sounds. When I first heard that there is a mandarin language, my first thought was 'what the hell this fruit have to do with Chinese?'

3) The fella who keeps quiet all the time, and starts shouting in the closing scenes, speaks this:

Murderers! You, who were shooting... destroyed human souls... Guardians of hell, you blame common sense for everything!... Christ persecuted you... You murderer!

4) The summary at IMDb is slightly incorrect: I've read the Chekhov's novel and the unfortunate man put in mental asylum is NOT a political prisoner; he was allegedly taken as having persecution mania. This was never indicated in the film, which I found to be a great move since the message can transcend much above and indicate any sort of non-democratic treatment or totalitarian doctrine.

I started to watch it but noticed the IMDB link for this match had a different year, different runtime, and was supposedly in b&w.

Might be a good idea to have it linked to the 1978 IMDB page instead of the other one.

I believe it's a same film because that wouldn't be the first time for Yugoslavian films. For instance, Ritam zločina was first made as a 1980 TV movie called Good Spirit of Zagreb, but then another producer appeared and the movie was again released, this time with different title and in theaters.

Žena s krajolikom was also a TV film, made for TV Sarajevo in 1976; Emir Kusturica had a particular fondness of it, since the director was kind of mentor to him, and when the latter died suddenly he and some other friends of his decided to run it in theaters and find another producer - again Centar Film from Belgrade.

And finally Paviljon broj VI. I had a reason to believe that when there's a interesting film made for TV, this producer re-releases it for good sake, as to make it available for wider audience.

If it was initially pointing to the 1978 page I would not had been confused about the year, the different run time, and whether it was in B&W or colour.

I guess there is no need now as most people will see this discussion. I just hope no one else searches for the film based on the IMDB details.

You must know that runtime isn't always exact. I just found by google search that the 1973 version was indeed b/w, and that the new version was edited out this material. So it wasn't filmed twice, and I know that because actors look much younger than they looked in the late 70s.

Finally, the video I provided is from 1978, but its duration time is 93 minutes, which means the runtime of 97mins was false.

I suggest everyone to read Ward Six; it doesn't have more than 60 pages I believe. The scarce dialogue in the film adaptation pretty much encapsulates its ideas. And how beautiful some of those rants are; to whoever felt he's being surrounded by mediocrity, aware of that shortage of intelligent people who'd know and love to discuss serious matters.
