One director to whet your appetite, then I'll continue tomorrow/later today. Let me know if there are any formatting issues.

Great to see it started!

Panahi is a director I have never loved anything from, and I find his style a little bit too on the nose for me, but everything I have seen have also been quite good. He definitely has a very specific style, and I can see why people love him.

exactly!
I would go as far to say that I don't like his movies at all
but I can see why other people might

Maybe it would make more sense for the number of lists to be part of the iCM link, not the IMDb one.

Out of the three I've seen, Talaye sorkh/Crimson Gold (2003) is the only one I really like.

That would make sense. Unfortunately the way I set up the code means I can't fix that right now, but I'll see about doing it for tomorrow.

Edit: Actually I can fix it a different way, just did on Peter Jackson above.

Is that "key films" things subjective or objective? I only ask because Heavenly Creatures is the best thing Peter Jackson has ever done and it is on account of that film and others (Forgotten Silver, The Lovely Bones, his early horror work) that I voted for Jackson. It wasn't on account of that bloated, over-the-top trilogy. :/

It's the film on the most official lists. So, subjectively "objective."

Interesting, all drops thus far. I wasn't here last year and never really perused last year's list, so I have no expectations, but that's a little strange. Just the weird way stats go I guess.

Of the first group my clear favorite is Panahi, at this point likely my favorite living Iranian director and second favorite overall after Kiarostami, and probably top 10-20 of all living directors. I've yet to see Offside but I've seen all of his other features and *LOVE* every one of them. Haven't really seen enough Wajda or Becker yet to have real grasps on them though I like what I've seen; somewhat mixed feelings on the rest. I think Nichols is the only director who I've given both 10 and 1 ratings to.
Here's to the fools who dream.

There's always some harsh drops and big rises, this list is less stable than the favourite movies list, but I do think there's more movement this year than in the past.

He was my favorite director, but he has also made two of the worst major studio comedies of all time. So no votes from me

(I got his signature though)

5/11 that I didn't vote for so far, and I had a large list (was it the largest)? Villeneuve just hasn't done it for me so far though I haven't hated anything of his; Reiner is too mixed, too much crap tips the scale downard despite the brilliance of Spinal Tap and to a lesser extent the next three films. Muche the same story with Nichols. Jury's still out on Becker and Cuaron for me.

3 women? Very sad but not surprising I guess. I only had 3 in my top 100 when it comes down to it.

I still haven't seen anything from Pialat, probably one of my biggest film gaps.

Good to see Imamura rise, but not far enough!

It would be intersting if these graphics also had birthyear (and deathyear), just to easier see when they were active

It's ok, Wise was a talented director, but to me he's the shining example of someone who put studio demands over the films themselves.

Oh, I agree. Still, what a filmography! 'The Curse of the Cat People', 'Blood on the Moon', 'The Set-Up', 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', 'The Captive City', 'Tribute to a Bad Man', 'The Haunting', 'The Andromeda Strain' to name a select few. Two pretty big and enduring musicals in there as well!
That's all, folks!
