Could be a cool test if there's general love for that film, though. I don't see it being that special, but it's not bad either.PeacefulAnarchy on Oct 29 2017, 11:19:06 AM wrote:It's already in DtC, is sabotaging its placement there worth the possibility of an <400 entry?

Who's rushing?monty on Oct 29 2017, 11:32:55 AM wrote:Why the sudden rush?
It's normal that you watch national cinema from the tip of the mountain, and then you slowly go downwards towards less recognized films. Once you realize there's not much that can surprise you, just go over to another country/director/genre/etc.

Would it be possible to get an "Explain like I'm five" version of the world cup and how to participate when this kicks off? I've been trying to follow, but I'm a tad confused...

Basically, watch the films and rank the films. The first round will have 4 films, 2nd will have 3, and from then on, 2. The top two in the first round will advance.maxwelldeux on Oct 29 2017, 12:52:52 PM wrote:Would it be possible to get an "Explain like I'm five" version of the world cup and how to participate when this kicks off? “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:37-40)

When you have seen all the four in the group, you just rank them by your preference. The film which has the positive record against other three advances, and the second one as well, while the 3rd and the 4th are eliminated. Of course the countries which those films belong to, are going further and in the second round, another film by another director is chosen.maxwelldeux on Oct 29 2017, 12:52:52 PM wrote:Would it be possible to get an "Explain like I'm five" version of the world cup and how to participate when this kicks off? In the second round the only difference is that only one of three films (one country, actually) is advancing. From then on it's 1vs1 until the final.
For starters, this is in the OP:maxwelldeux on Oct 29 2017, 12:52:52 PM wrote:Would it be possible to get an "Explain like I'm five" version of the world cup and how to participate when this kicks off? I've been trying to follow, but I'm a tad confused...
Then you just need to know what a match is:How is the tournament going to be this season?
Round 1:
48 countries will be divided into 12 groups of 4 countries. #1 and #2 from each group proceed. Each match lasts for 4 weeks. Matches overlap 1.5 weeks.
Round 2:
24 countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3 countries. #1 from each group proceeds. Each match lasts for 3 week. Matches overlap 1 week.
Quarter finals, semi finals and final:
Countries compete one on one. Winner proceeds. Each match lasts for 2 weeks. Matches overlap 0.5 weeks.
Which movies are eligible?
- Less than 1000 checks (at the moment the movie is picked).
- Maximum runtime of 180 minutes.
- Only one movie per director in the whole season.
- No movies from season 1 or season 2.
- Coproductions are allowed, but with an explanation why a movie certainly belongs to the country it competes for.
If you want to dig back into the previous seasons, you can find all topics here.
Let's say group A consists of France, USA, Serbia and Malaysia. The managers of each country selected a movie. A match lasts a few weeks. In those weeks everyone who's interested can watch those movies (or you've seen them before) and rank them. So you submit:
1. movie Malaysia
2. movie USA
3. movie France
4. movie Serbia
Everyone does so and this results in a score between the four movies. The best two proceeds to round 2. In round 2 we'll do groups of 3 and after that groups of 2.
Matches overlap a bit, but every match lasts for a certain amount of time with a strict deadline.
You can choose to participate in every match or just a few, whatever you like and suits your own schedule. But if you vote in a match, you have to vote for every movie in that group (so you should have seen them obviously).

Is there an easy way to see which films are ineligible (because of participation in previous cups), all in one place, rather than having to dig through the threads for each round?
