Hahaha! This short of the day-thing has gone out of control!
But actually I've skated for over 10 years, still do once in a while. I've had some injuries, so that's kept me off the board for some time by now. I still love it, and watch skatevideos often. I'm not a fan of Shane O'neill's skateboarding though; I don't think he has much to offer either in style or in creativity, he's quite talented though.
My favorite parts of skatevideos are probably Louie Barletta & Jerry Hsu's part in "Subject to Change", Corey Duffel's part in "Feed the Need" or Dylan Rieder's (R.I.P.) Gravis video.

My favorite whole skatevideo is the one called "Mind Field", both in regards of skating (som of my favorite skater's in there; Jake Johnson, Jason Dill, Dylan Rieder, Heath Kirchart etc.) but also in regards of editing and music.

The swedish skateboard company Polar makes some extremely original and experimental skatevideos as well, mixing skateboarding with 8mm footage, animation, homemade skatespots, poetry and peculiar music. The one from 2010 called "In Search of the Miraculous" is especially spectacular (it is apparent from the first seconds of the film):

The funny thing about skateboarding, and probably why I've spent so much of my life doing it (at a point in my life I used 5-7 hours a day skating) is that it's not really a "competition sport", but rather it's about aesthetic and style. Who cares if you can do some extremely hard trick if it doesn't look good? It probably compares more to dance that to regular "extreme sports", at least from my point of view.

It's great that you continue skating! I sometimes wish I had, there's a unique feeling in moving across town, looking for spots, practicing, chilling, messing around. And like you said, it's not a competitive sport, everyone's left free to do what he likes and experiment. I like your comparison to dance.
When it comes to skate videos, I find something intrinsically beautiful about the fisheye lenses and cameras sweepingly following a skater. They should use both in feature films more often.
Skateboard graphics are great as well, i like Ed Templeton/Toy Machine's for example.
I can see where you're coming from with regards to O'Neill, he mainly sticks to classical flip tricks and grinds, but he just does and lands them so brilliantly clean. But you're right, there's little variation, I don't think I've ever seen him do even a no comply.
A nice s.k.a.t.e. video that reflects the confrontation between two varieties of skating is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_Absdq34C4 - the one time only when they allowed the use of hands and feet on the ground. You can hear Mike Vallely saying "who makes rules for skateboarding?". Billy Marks was obviously unfair as a referee, since he's friends with Chris Cole, but you can see how Chris Cole struggled in the game.

Jerry Hsu - Ah, yes, I remember his part in "Stay Gold". It was funnily also preceded by the most extended, and painful failures/injuries segment.
"Stay Gold", btw, is also the only skatevideo ensemble that I remember seeing in its entirety; I'm sure you're familiar with it.
That 'Mind Field' video looks sick, Jake Johnson's part is like an experimental short film! Some Alien Workshop occurrences there, indeed (speaking of good deck designs). I'll check out the full video. And yeah, that 'In Search of the Miraculous' looks fantastic too; thanks for both.
