9 newly official lists. I've seen almost half of the post-2015 films and one of the older ones, but it's the three newly official older films that interest me most (Eleven P.M., Cane River, Alma's Rainbow), and fortunately for me their all on Kanopy. The article lists all the participants at the bottom, and includes streaming options for each film.
I still think more African films could/should be included, but I'm glad they've updated it and it won't be a static list. Perhaps by the end of the decade it will be a Top 100.

Oh wow, that Black Canon update came unexpected!
Should help me immensely with staying in the <500 with so much post-2015 films. They added about everything that was acclaimed enough, eh?
Finally, my Woman King watch pays off ..

And oh god, I'm trying to watch Out of Time ... it started out with very noirish sounding music, but ... it's pretty much the usual, run of the mill guy gets stuck holding the empty bag caper. However, I will say it's probably one of the best 1000 American made noirish pictures with four POC leads made during the last half century.
While that might alone be a reason for inclusion on a noir list, there are actual noirs made by and with POC that aren't on the list. I'm losing respect for the noir list each minute I continue to watch this film.

I think they emphasize on the noir lists that they're not supposed to be the best noirs, just the most noirs.

You've written this so many times, but what's your position on Godard's noirs? What about a movie like Alphaville, for example?WalterNeff wrote: ↑February 28th, 2023, 4:06 pmThe worst noir is better than the best Godard TMKnaldskalle wrote: ↑February 28th, 2023, 3:17 pm I think they emphasize on the noir lists that they're not supposed to be the best noirs, just the most noirs.

They all seem available to me. Which one are you having trouble finding?WalterNeff wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 6:10 pmOoof tough update. Three unseen, one of which is unavailable.
That's a good update, doubled my watched films too although the four are all well known but it's nice to see films like Nope, Zola all being there. I think it potentially could become one of my best lists, in particular given it's already an above average film and because i've already been planning to watch more films from the one added in this update.

The updated list in the forum post dirty linked to.
No film fell out of the Top 50, and a few films shuffled around. Only notable rises are El Puro and Forgotten Pistolero both moving up 4 spots.

I've stopped too, i mean i don't watch enough film or as much as some of you guys do. Wasting my time watching 20 Superhero films every year... no, thanks.jeroeno wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2023, 4:51 am That Phase IV joke is even better when you' ve seen both movies. You're right though, phase 4 has been dissapointment after dissapointment, just the other day somebody told me Shang Chi was the best and I was like , oh yeah I saw that but can't remember anything about it. Same for Eternals, is there still a celestial being crawling out of the ocean? All these realms, universes, multiverses, realities and timelines... I just can't keep up anymore. Meh.

Yeah i'm pretty sure i watch less than most guys here, though i'm at 69 so far for this year (tho one third is shorts), which is already more than 2019 and 2020 and getting closer to 2022 too (already).Torgo wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 9:39 pmHey I don't watch as many films as those guys either and I still watch 20 superhero movies every year!Lakigigar wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 9:25 pmI've stopped too, i mean i don't watch enough film or as much as some of you guys do. holy shit! the world must be comin to its feckin end -- a Mexican noir FINALLY makes the friggin listWalterNeff wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 6:10 pmOoof tough update. Three unseen, one of which is unavailable.

Finally, the list rankings got updated.
I went from #463 with 17/50 checks to .. #461, now with 25/75 checks.
So much for "helping me immensely"

I went from 19/50 #354 to 29/75 #305 so it worked out okay for me, though I'm now a bit farther away from getting bronze on the list (9 films as opposed to 6)

50/50 to 62/75... rank 1 to rank 17.
4/50 to 8/75, +2048 in ranks to 4946. I'll work a bit later on this and watch Nope, Zola, Sorry To Bother You & Do The Right Thing which is probably going to be the second half of the month.

Oh right, I had the right list after all. Because of the lack of significant changes I thought I had the old list with some minor tweaks or something.Fergenaprido wrote: ↑March 1st, 2023, 9:24 pmThe updated list in the forum post dirty linked to.

PA did it manually last time, and said a few months ago he would do it again once the ballots were released if he had the time.
If he doesn't, I'll do it myself, and we should ideally have the results compiled and double-checked before the end of the month.
