A cheap drive-in movie that strays into so-bad-its-good territory only occasionally, but the bizarre premise and presence of John Carradine ensure watchability. The number of idiotic things in this movie makes me think it would work better as a "party" movie rather than watching it alone.

I'm not sure the Whispering Corridors series has much appeal outside its target audience of Korean teenage girls, but this one does boast a good finale and tackles themes of homosexuality, statutory rape and suicide with sensitivity. I feel it comes undone by having the horror elements be minimal, and the plot driven by dull dialogue.

There are some interesting elements about colonisation and slavery, but these only figure in the beginning and end of the movie. The rest is gothic revenge and body-snatching in a plot riddled with holes. Disappointly, Price and Lee never get to play against each other, but are stuck in separate plot lines that weirdly both involve unrelated body-snatching conspiracies. There's definitely fun to be had with the gothic tropes and the unconvincing horror, but a lot of potential is squandered.

The main problem is the film's shying away from unplesantness and tragedy - a clear example of the distaste for the horror genre that developed during World War 2. It's clear that the natural arc of this story is for the Invisible Man to gradually become evil, and the characters say as much, but the film refuses to commit so that it can move towards a happy ending.

This seems like it might have been an important part of developing the idea of the vampire as tragic romantic hero. Yorga is obsessed with a human woman, and he wants her to love him but doesn't want to turn her into a vampire. Why not is unclear. It wasn't until the following year's
that this plotline would be given the explanation of the woman being a reincarnation of the vampire's lost love. Anyway, this wasn't as good as the first. It retains some of the creepiness, but the plotline now meanders and seems confused about what it wants to do.
. There are some good films in there I wouldn't really approach as full-on horror films though (like Seom or Mon Seung).
