The zero checks challenge - ongoing

Monty, I am a film festival programmer, so I get to watch a lot of films before the regular audience. My goal wasn't to brag or create distrust, I just wanted to see how many films I'm actually #1 to check, plus let you know about some coming titles. But I think I'm done now.

I stand corrected. Sorry for being overly hasty in judging you - it's just that I've had some bad experiences with cheetahs.
Anyhow, I'd really like some comments as to how you liked the film, Bone Tomahawk that is.

I now feel assured that I'm not a "cheater" for posting here when I get to see things early - and I would have grabbed that first check even if not posting about it here, so it wouldn't be available for someone else anyway. I've also been posting in the ongoing obscure challenge, where I'm planning on stopping when I reach 100 (probably in a few days). But I'd thought I'd continue posting here, since the first checks come around less often. Now I will.

I usually post a short sentence about how I liked a film, and I realize now that Bone Tomahawk was an exception. I think that was because I didn't quite know whether I liked it. I watched it to consider it for a horror film festival - I mean, Kurt Russell and cannibals in the wild west, that sounds awesome! Sounds like a John Carpenter movie! But then it turned out to be something completely different. A few men, including Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox and Patrick Wilson, spend most of the movie wandering the desert. Slowly. With lots of talking. But there are indeed cannibals, and they are terrifying. And I enjoyed the calmer parts as well, I was just initially disappointed that it wouldn't be the perfect horror festival film I had imagined.

12. Inner Demon (2014)

Australian horror, the second film in a trilogy that I want to explore. Sort of a home invasion movie, but then suddenly more like Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and then something else entirely.

What happens to the final girl after the movie is done? In this movie, she is very traumatized, sees the killer everywhere although he is supposed to be dead. A good idea for a movie, but it ends up being a bit repetitive once the action gets going.

As for this challenge, I guess you've noticed that I've sort of semi-retired from it (my last update scorewise was last November) so if you and the other guys are interested in keeping track that automated script of yours sure would be handy. How do I go about setting it up? Seems like a lot of work...

Many will probably find that the ultra obscure challenge is too easy. Well, this thread is for you guys. :)

Goal:
Watch as many movies as you can that have 0 checks.

Rules:
- A feature film (Anything over 40 minutes) counts as one entry
- A TV drama/play (over 45 minutes) counts as one entry. TV series do not count.
- A total of 60 minutes of short films count as one entry

This challenge will be on-going.

You seem to routinely rate all your watches a seven - any particular reason?

My rating system is weird. I barely comprehend it myself. When I start watching a movie I give it a 7, like automatically every film is a 7. Because that to me means average. Then I let the film influence it. If it didn't make me feel anything negative about it well I can't give it less than 7 because less than 7 means less than average so it doesn't fit my rating system and if it didn't really WOW me either then the rating is a 7. Average. Nothing more, nothing less. Just average.

edit: I should add that since I give every film a 7 the rating lives through the film, going up and down.

54. Scoutman (2000, Masato Ishioka)

First check on the Donald Richie list which has some really interesting films. Falls in the same genre as Bounce KO Gals (1997) and Love & Pop (1998). The latter is the better film of the two with some interesting camera work. Although while these two films are about teen girls dating older men for money, and while Scoutman also has that, Scoutman is more about guys scouting for young girls on the street to do Adult Video. Also Scoutman has a lot more breasts.
