Spoiler
Didn't notice this before, so sorry for the late reply, but I guess this question was addressed to me so I should reply after all. I just bought a ticket (again) to their concert next year. ;)

Recommendations order by album, starting at Coal (2013):

Foe
(here a link to a live version)

The Cloak (bit of a ballad, Leprous-wise, but live it always hits me)

Echo (this one is probably the most in line with The Valley, from the same album)

Contaminate Me
(a lot more impressive live than on the album)

So including The Valley that was more than half of the album Coal. I'll start a new post for the next album......

From the album The Congragation:
(It is considered their masterpiece, so you should listen to it from start to finish, but I'll try to pick my personal highlights.

The Price
A lot of fans don't like this song, but live it's a hit. It's the opening track of the album and I was sold within the first 10 seconds. Great rhythm.

Rewind
(you should see this live, again....)

The Flood
(great builtup)

Red

SLAVE!!
(the section starting at 3:20 is insane to see live, proof that Baard is one of the best progdrummers in the world)

Okay, let's start with that. After this album they started changing (again), with less metal, less screams, ......
But one songs from the album Pitfalls I can't ignore when I'm giving recommendations. I've seen this one live twice now and both times are among my favorite live-experiences ever. A perfect way to end the concert.

The drumming in that one is amazing as well, btw.

As much of a Springsteen fan as I am, I gotta admit that Manfred Mann's version of this song far surpasses the Boss' original. Same is true (though it's a bit closer call) for Blinded by the Light and Spirit in the Night; Mann had a talent I think for finding good songs that weren't well-recorded originally and rocking out more with better production values in his covers. And Springsteen's first album from which all of those songs came is IMO the weakest of all his 70s-80s work by a big margin, with erratic and weak singing and a thin sound. It's also notable that David Bowie covered another song (Growin' Up) from the same album early on - but there are few notable early covers of anything on Bruce's subsequent few albums. He didn't need the help anymore.

Also the Mann covers were actually my first exposure to Spingsteen, and I can't think of any other favorite musician offhand that I first got to know through covers - at least not any that I "grew up with" so to speak.
It was the truth, vivid and monstrous, that all the while he had waited the wait was itself his portion..

I'd give Springsteen's version of For You the edge based just on his voice, but I'll admit that the instrumentation is not up to the standards of Springsteen's/E Street's later work.

I'd never heard Mann's version of Spirit in the Night, and it's pretty darn good. And Mann's Blinded by the Light is, I think, commonly regarded as a cover that's better than the original.

I found it weird that Dame Olivia's death affected me really strongly - apart from being very emotional and easily affected in general, especially in the past 3 years, and very alone - until I took a little look at one obit and it mentioned a bunch of her early hits, and this one stood out like a bolt of lightning; I distinctly remember hearing this a zillion times - it was a #1 hit in 1975 when I was 9, and I'm fairly sure I hear it on innumerable bus rides to school. And certainly many times later. Can't say most of her songs do that much for me but this one for whatever reason has a powerful effect, and I really like her voice here.

There are still some Bjork songs that I haven't heard yet, making my way through a bunch of her B-sides over the years. The best one of these that I recently found is this one left off of Post. Love it, it's a banger!

My favorite jazz composer joined the faculty of a local conservatory here in New York, so I went to see his debut as a conductor. It reminded me of something I learned in grad school: student concerts are great. The quality is almost as high as professional musicians, and the concerts are usually free. Here are two of the standout numbers I heard.

Always cool hearing jazz vibraphone. In the live arrangement I heard, the percussion was much louder, which made the song better.

This was pretty cool. The entire brass section with stomps and hand claps. And the melody was carried by three flutes and one piccolo. Not typical jazz instrumentation.
