Imani Coppola (best known for the songs Legend of a Cowgirl and The World Should Revolve Around Me) dropped her new (and her self-proclaimed last) album today - The Protagonist. I hate that she has no plans on ever touring again.

A sonic youth member using a bass-heavy industrial beat? One song in the album is her talking over a trap rap beat.

From The Rules of Attraction. The scene this song plays in is as haunting as fuck. But do yourself a favour and watch it in context with the rest of the movie, rather than just watching the scene on YouTube. The video I've posted here is just the music. No footage.

Been listening to this a lot. This is the rare perfect metal album. The post-metal riffs are just fantastic.

This album was an absolute blessing. I didn't listen to You Want it Darker as soon as it came out, and after he died, for some reason, I was unable to listen to it. This release is just beautiful, and to finally listen to some new Cohen after five years feels wonderful.

I went to the opera for the first time ever on Saturday. I saw Philip Glass' Akhnaten at the Met in New York. It was mesmerizing. I came home afterward and immediately put on the music. Between yesterday and today, I've listened to the whole thing again.

Here's a trailer for the production I saw:

And here's a complete recording:

Of course, it's Philip Glass, so you're either going to love it or hate it.

An album with a cover like this is not allowed to be this good. I think the reason why this album is a masterpiece is the contrast of the cutesy vocals with hardcore techno

Not sure how familiar you are with this kind of music, but it's an entire genre based on exactly that. Although people here actually called it "mellow" or "happy hardcore", because it really isn't very hardcore B) In Germany they went with the "happy rave" moniker for this type of music. There really is a ton of it.

If you like something very similar (also German), try Marusha. If you want to sample slightly broader, try this compilation series. If you want a more modern update, check out this label

Neat.

La Roux had one minor hit album with their first release, which was 10 years ago (In For The Kill is a song on that album). They were once a duo, but then they split up after their first album and the female singer (one-half of the duo) took over and uses the name as her solo act. Since then, she had one album released earlier in the decade, then she worked a few years on an album that she later scrapped, and finally a new album  She's a "one hit wonder" in my country for the song Bulletproof.
