What game(s) are you playing now?
I started playing A Link Between Worlds... And a few minutes later, I dropped it. The music in the first part of the game is terrible, extremely annoying and repetitive. I think this is the first time I ever dropped a game because of the music.
I also don't like the camera angle, because you're looking at everything almost from the top. I prefer A Link to the Past where you see characters and houses more from the front.

I finished Crash Team Racing (adventure mode, the 16 main tracks and the bosses, but I didn't do the extra stuff).
I thought the AI cheating in Mario Kart was bad, but the AI cheating in this game is much worse. The bosses have infinite weapons (just like Mario Kart AI), but they use the weapons at a much faster rate, sometimes even more than once per second.

The cheating in thoses games is so frustating and the worst part of CTR is the last boss actually cheats by starting ahead of you. I actually broke my PC playing them. Wipeout is another one and I think every other racing game in the 90's really wanted to test our patience.mjf314 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2023, 9:09 am I finished Crash Team Racing (adventure mode, the 16 main tracks and the bosses, but I didn't do the extra stuff).

And speaking of Crash, I beat Crash Bandicoot 1 yesterday. I've installed an PSX emulator and I plan to work on some other games from the system.

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor. It's a sort of mecha/tank simulator for the kinect. You sit down for the kinect controls, and also hold a controller in your hand and change up between using the two control schemes. It's by fromsoftware, and apparently it makes the souls game look like a joke in comparison... so that might be fun lol
Heh, the original Steel Battalion for Xbox was the one that came with that giant tank controller.Pretentious Hipster wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:43 amSteel Battalion: Heavy Armor. Yea apparently this game is just as complicated, it's just mostly with the kinect instead LOLflavo5000 wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:58 amHeh, the original Steel Battalion for Xbox was the one that came with that giant tank controller.Pretentious Hipster wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:43 amSteel Battalion: Heavy Armor. Thanks for the link suggestion!
There's a lot of the usual regulars, but also quite a few I'm not familiar with. I was surprised with Bionic Commando making such a splash (@ #3, sheesh) - as I've only played that for like a few mins. Quite a few RPGs as well - which I'm not as vested in - as I'm not as interested in like 40 hour story driven games, but I'd like to give the Final Fantasy games some better chances. I'm just quite happy having access to so many NES games and being able to play them at any moment, with my controller sitting next to me is just a weird sense of joy that I wouldn't have believed was possible like 15 years ago (even though it was certainly available then as well!)
So I do want to / plan to beat every NES/SNES game (a bucket list goal alongside completing every ICM list / visiting every National Park Site / visit every county highpoint / etc), but I will just have to take a random approach to one from the ether, and dedicate my time and effort into beating it. I think I'll try heavy save states at first, then go back and not use any save states as far as I possibly can make it (/ when there's a checkpoint, so I can at least have infinite continues - as every game should have).
Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but I do appreciate people's suggestions for NES / SNES - as I know there are a lot of hidden gems left to discover out there (like Goof Troop for the SNES is an amazing game you never hear about (2player co-op as well)) - which makes me wonder if there's anything else like it out there.

There are definitely some hidden gems. Disney in the NES/SNES days was like a stamp of quality that defied the usual stereotype of terrible IP-based games. Duck Tales is often rightfully mentioned as a classic but also Chip n Dale's Rescue Rangers (also 2 player co-op), Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Aladdin, The Lion King, Jungle Book, etc. I honestly can't think of any bad games produced by Disney back then (it helped that Capcom made a lot of them).Minkin wrote: ↑March 17th, 2023, 12:40 pm

And Bionic Commando is awesome. I played through it a few years ago and had a blast.
If you're looking for a shorter JRPG, you might like Terranigma (SNES). Although it's not short for an SNES game, it's short compared to other SNES JRPGs.Minkin wrote: ↑March 17th, 2023, 12:40 pm There's a lot of the usual regulars, but also quite a few I'm not familiar with. @outdoorcats - I adore Super Metroid and have played most all of them, but haven't made it far on the NES one (+never played the Game Boy one) - as I find the difficulty a bit too high on the NES game - but I love the franchise to bits.
@Flavo - I love the Disney Aladdin (had as kid) + Chip and Dale. Lion King was a rental that I could never get past the first stage. Later played it as an adult a couple years ago and was only able to get through it with major save state usage. Apparently Disney wanted the game to be very difficult as a way to get people to buy it rather than just rent it. Didn't realize Jungle Book was a game though, will check that one out + give Bionic Command another try.
@mjf314 I will give it a try once I feel ready committed to a lengthier story-driven game, which I am occasionally known to do, but thanks for letting me know about it! Would definitely feel more motivated by a SNES RPG than a NES one.
If anyone's looking for quality content - here's a YouTuber who's trying to beat every N64 game (US/Pal/Japan too). Seems quite determined and posts regularly. (thanks Pretentious Hipster for pointing them out to me)

If Terranigma is still too long, then maybe try Undertale (if you don't mind a modern game)? It can be beaten in under 10 hours, and it's probably the shortest of all the critically acclaimed RPGs. It's on sale right now, so you can get it from Steam for $2.99.

Fun fact, technical the tingle games have quite a bit to do with Undertale. The company that made the two tingle games were employees from a company called Love-de-Lic. They made a game called Moon, and the creator of Undertale said that Moon was a huge inspiration.
I finished Night in the Woods. It was ok. I probably would've liked it more if it was shorter. Some parts were good, but I felt like some parts didn't add much to the game.
I don't like how you have to choose who to hang out with on each day, so you have to play the entire game twice to see all of the scenes.

I just finished Nightmare Temptation Academy.
That was an interesting game, and probably the weirdest game I've ever played. It's a surreal post-apocalyptic musical dating sim. You play as a horny hyena girl, and there are cameo appearances from the Majora's Mask moon and Spongebob. If you like artistic surreal visuals then I recommend it. If you're easily disturbed, you'll probably want to avoid it (you can check the content warning).

I gave Cuphead another chance. I started over from the beginning, and I finished the entire game on regular mode (not including the DLC levels).
Last time I played with a keyboard, but this time I played with a controller, so that made it a little bit easier.

I've been playing Dredge, a Lovecraftian fishing exploration game thing. Really fun, nice game to kick back to at night before bed. Also got Let's Build a Zoo recently too and I haven't played it as much as Dredge but it's been a fun tycoon management game so far.
Also watching my boyfriend play Resident Evil 4. It's a little boring overall but man the encounters are intense. Some interesting elements and maybe it'll get better but I'm not super impressed and it's not a game I'd play myself.

I've been playing the first-person puzzle game The Talos Principle. Been really enjoying it but man, some of those puzzles are fiendishly difficult.
I finished Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It was somewhat enjoyable, but I DKC2 is a much better game.
I finished The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Not a bad game, but it could've been better without the sailing. The sailing ruined it.

I haven't played very many different games as I keep playing the same ones or their sequels. Currently I like: Anno 1800, Northgard, The Guild II, Stronghold II and Age of Empires IV.
Born in 1970! Unfortunately, I can't remember the first film I saw. The following three films that I saw when I was young left strong memories: Krakatit (1948, Vavra), Dance of the Vampires (1967, Polanski), Paper Moon (1973, Bogdanovich).

I finished Celeste.

The main game story or the bonus chapters?
I never got around to quite finishing Chapter 9. I got to the final room, got overwhelmed looking at it, said, "I'll come back to it later," procrastinated, and now there's no way I'm diving back into that save file after forgetting all the stuff you learn in the bonus chapters.

If I had, easily would have been the hardest game I'd ever completed. Chapter 9 is fucking insane.
The main game (chapters 1-7), though, I've beaten way more times than any other game. I speedrun it against myself (the game has a speedrun clock you can turn on in Options, which is pretty cool) for fun. My best time for any% is 1hr07mn if I recall. Rookie numbers!

That looks like my kind of game, added to my wishlist.
Meanwhile I've been playing Jedi Survivor. Very similar to the first game, though I miss the lush jungles and 'naturey' planets and not as much of a fan of the moon bases and such in this game.

Only the main game. I felt like the main game was hard enough, so I don't have much desire to play the bonus chapters.

I don't necessarily recommend them. They're not as fun. I *do* recommend starting the game over and being shocked at how easy you'll find the early chapters now. You can get quite a rush from that!mjf314 wrote: ↑May 12th, 2023, 6:17 amOnly the main game. I felt like the main game was hard enough, so I don't have much desire to play the bonus chapters.

I finished Doki Doki Literature Club. I guess it was ok, but there were some repetitive parts that it wouldn't let me skip.

Has a lot of Final Fantasy too, which is what I'm currently playing: Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, a remaster of a 2007 PSP game that serves as a prequel to FF7.

The past weekend I beat Untitled Goose Game - and I loved it - from the music cues that respond to action, to the low-stakes involved with everything, to the humor - it's a lot of fun and doesn't get too frustrating (other than some humans who are a bit too aggressive - but you can usually just squawk away at them). Its best to just play around and accept the game's notion of comedy to get through the tasks and progress naturally. My only complaint is that some of the after-completion tasks are time-based, which I don't care for, but otherwise this is a lot of fun and a great experience.

I finished FInal Fantasy IX. It's not as good as 6 or 7, but still a good game.
The new Zelda has consumed my life. I fully expect to be playing that for the next month or two.

My boyfriend has also been consumed by it. I’m usually reading in bed while he plays and all I can hear is the jumping sound which is really annoying lol. I haven’t tried it yet but I can’t seem to get into Zelda games even though they seem nice enough

Yea, it's been addicting so far too. It has the same magic in a sense that I start a session with a clear goal, expecting it to only take 30 minutes or so, but I get so distracted by everything I find on the way to the goal that it ends up taking hours.
My zelda ranking video is actually going well so far. The momentum is finally starting and I will hopefully be done by the end of the year. I've finished doing the videos for 14/33 entries thus far (I'm not including stuff like the game and watch games, tetra's trackers, and the weird bar code thing. Everything else counts). I only have 3 games, plus totk obv, to organize the footage for, which is by far the longest step. The video reached its 4 hour mark.
