Yea and the tingle and satellaview games.
Since my last post I played through
A Memoir Blue
High On Life
Machinarium
Somerville
Planet Alpha
Beacon Pines
Coffee Talk
High On Life was great. I did enjoy Machinarium, Somerville, Beacon Pines and Coffee Talk as well. A Memoir Blue and Planet Alpha were meh.
I'm currently playing Trackmania - and that takes up a lot of my free time.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

I finished Catherine. It's a puzzle game about a man's relationship with 2 women, Katherine and Catherine. It was made by the same company as the Persona games.
I liked the concept of the game, but I think several things could've been done better.
I didn't like how the game was constantly rushing me. I like to be able to take my time when I play puzzle games. I didn't like the random elements. Sometimes you get attacked in ways that seem impossible to avoid. I didn't like how "undo" was implemented.
I played on normal mode, so maybe I would've enjoyed it more on easy mode, but I don't think that would've completely fixed it.
I think the relationship with Catherine could've been developed better.
I think the cutscenes (animated by Studio 4°C) were my favorite part of the game.

Spoiler
Even though I did the Catherine route, the protagonist dumps her, only to suddenly change his mind at the end. I think in the Catherine route, they should've spent more time on the protagonist falling in love with Catherine.

Just finished Planet of Lana, a cinematic and very ghibliesque platformer that's a mix of Limbo/Inside and A Boy and his Blob. The puzzles are a bit on the easy side but I didn't mind, it's short, very charming with a cute story and protagonists and that's all I wanted for a relaxing weekend. Recommend.
I finished Super Mario Odyssey. I liked this game more than Super Mario Galaxy (which I dropped).
I think I'm almost done with the Mario franchise. Super Mario 3D World is the only game left that I'm interested in playing.
I'm not sure if I should play the Mario Maker games. I'm not interested in downloading random levels that may or may not be good, but if there's a main game with official levels, I might give it a try.

Finished Bramble: The Mountain King, a swedish indie game that focuses on a young boy's quest to find his older sister. Gameplay wise is a bit like Little Nightmares in 3d with some combat. It's very grim with a horror folktale setting. Could have used a little bit polish but it was a good experience. Recommended.
On a more sunny side up, I've also finished Sackboy, a Big Adventure and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.
At least with Mario Maker 2, there is a story mode that generally plays like the old school 2D platforming Mario games.mjf314 wrote: ↑June 11th, 2023, 4:52 am I finished Super Mario Odyssey. I liked this game more than Super Mario Galaxy (which I dropped).

I finished Hades. I did one escape. Apparently I need to do 10 escapes to see the credits, but I don't think I have the patience for that.
The idea of doing the same thing 10 times just to see more of the story doesn't sound very interesting to me. Does the gameplay change in a significant way?
It doesn't change dramatically but it does get easier as you upgrade weapons. plus the labyrinth is laid out different every time you play through. I'd say try it one or two more times and if it still doesn't do it for ya, dump it.mjf314 wrote: ↑June 15th, 2023, 7:07 pmThe idea of doing the same thing 10 times just to see more of the story doesn't sound very interesting to me. I just did a 2nd escape in Hades. There's some new dialogue, but otherwise it's about the same. I think that's enough for me, so I probably won't do a 3rd.
I started playing Katamari Damacy. It was entertaining for 30 minutes, but now I'm getting bored of it. I think I'm going to drop it.

My cousin lent me his PS4 so I've been playing the Uncharted trilogy remastered. And since Sony only ported the fourth game to PC, I could finally get around and finish the others.
I'm also looking forward to Ratchet & Clank (2016) and Until Dawn.
I finished Hexcells. It's a puzzle game, a little bit like Minesweeper. It was ok.

I decided to give Rayman Legends another chance (after dropping it last year), and this time I finished the game.
I still think the physics is poorly designed, but the level design isn't bad.

I'll be having my cousin's PS4 for another month so I subscribed to PS+ Extra and for 14€ I get access to a lot of games that I want to play. Such a good deal.
Finished Shadow of the Colossus (2018), a remake of a PS2 game.

this game is a vibe, gorgeous and very cinematic but man the controls kinda suck. Still, it's a worthy experience.

Recently bought Wylde Flowers and Dave the Diver. Both fun and chill games. The first is very ‘goody two shoes-y’ but the gameplay is fun and the characters and world have slightly grown on me. The latter I only bought a few hours ago so haven’t spent as much time with it but it’s enjoyable so far and has a nice balance of resource collecting/exploring with ‘management’ stuff.

I played about 20 hours of Dave the Diver and enjoyed a lot of it! By the time I stopped there were just a ton of different game options, I think it could have used more focus there.
I finished Metroid Dread.
Compared to Super Metroid, I think it has better running/jumping physics, better boss fights, and a better checkpoint system, but I think Super Metroid has a better world layout, music, atmosphere, and ending. Overall I'd say Super Metroid is better, but Metroid Dread is good too.

Finished Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

A direct sequel to Black Ops. One of the month's freebies so I took the chance, a bit weird playing a FPS without M+K but it was a short campaign.

Just finished The Last Guardian (2016), another game from Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus).

You play as a kid and have a pet monster which you can give orders to help you in some of the puzzles/platforming. The A.I. of the beast is a bit erratic and can be quite frustating but it tells a neat story.

I started playing Death's Door because I heard it was similar to Zelda. I'm not enjoying it, so I think I'm going to drop it.
I don't like the combat physics - how you move forward when you swing your sword, and then you have to wait a while before you can move again, so you can't dodge attacks.
I don't like how using a life seed seems to be the only way to heal, but I'm afraid to use them because I don't know if I'll need them later.
The story seems almost non-existent so far.
The music and graphics are average.

Got a new laptop and it turned out Cicilization VI does not have to run like syrup. So, I've played that a lot lately. A problem is that I hate how the Barbarians are so plentiful and agressive on higher difficulty settings, so I just play on a far to easy level.
On the Xbox I play Borderlands 3, and for Microsoft Rewards I found a perfect little game, McPixel 3. I am bound to get an achievement in just a few minutes of playing.

It's a series of short vignettes, you have to solve some problem in a McGyver-way. Although pissing on things is the most common solution.

Unpacking is a brilliant game that tells a story in a way unlike anything I've seen. It's something I would try to shove down the throats of those in the "video games aren't art" camp.
Forza Horizon 4 is the best racing game I have ever played, and I am all too eager to sink dozens and dozens of hours into it. God bless Xbox Game Pass.

Pro advice regarding barbarians. Barbarians are an advantage to you, since the AI has extreme issues with them (just don't let their scout unit see your city or you fucked). Of course below diff 5 it doesn't really matter, but emperor and above the barbarians will slow down victory condition for the other civs.magnusbernhardsen wrote: ↑July 13th, 2023, 7:32 am Got a new laptop and it turned out Cicilization VI does not have to run like syrup. Still obsessed with Forza Horizon 4. Also working on The Ascent, which is a decent game. I need to beat it soon before it leaves Game Pass.

Super Mario Kart is a lot of fun. I abandoned The Ascent because the further I got into it, I realized what an awful and broken game it is. They put all of their efforts into designing a cool cyberpunk world and none into making it actually fun or even functional to play. Marvel's Avengers is leaving Game Pass, but it's quite fun, so I'm going to buy it while it is only $6.

I FINALLY finished Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Switch says I put 155 hours into it so that's a lot...
Anyway, I played an endless runner racing game for a little while called #Drive that was ok and have moved on to Alone with You, an interesting adventure game.
