It's possibly Edward Burtynsky, who I realize is Canadian and not Brazilian. But his Anthropocene project is close to what I recall seeing in that book. I'm only about 70% sure that it's him though...that name just came to me out of the blue.
I'm not sure which is more impressive, that you remembered the name of the photographer or that you remembered this post from ten months ago. Is it possible you were thinking of Sebastiao Salgado, who is Brazilian?
I'm familiar with Burtynsky's work, and having one of my pictures compared to his is a great honor. I've seen this movie, which focuses on Burtynsky. And at some point I read this New Yorker profile of him.
Well, thanks, I guess, on the memory thing. My brain does tend to file unanswered or ongoing questions in an area that I can recall from pretty easily. Problem is I can't for sure remember this guy's name.
I don't think Salgado is the artist/photographer that I was thinking of. When googled his images aren't striking the chord.
I'll check the Burtynsky doc you mentioned; that might help jog my memory. Been long enough that I may never remember 100%
And, yes, some of your work does remind me of his, so that was definitely meant as a compliment!
