What a beautiful 1,001 films! When it's presented like that the layers of influence and different characteristics really shine through.

Picking up on beavis' point, Karl, brian d, insomnius, MovieGuide1, jdidaco and our hard-working host are some of the influencers whose lists tend to intrigue me the most. The SCFZ cohort seems to have noticeably dwindled this year. Sadly missed! The eclecticism of their submissions was welcome and often revelatory.

Thank you, Angel; so much fun!
That's all, folks!

I am almost certain I got it in at one time, back in the days of the IMDb Classic Movie Board, (probably then under a previous user name). It must have fallen of the list at some point, and then re-nominated by MOLIST. Still very happy to see it in the current list though of course!
You are most likely right: 2012-in, 2017-out, 2018-in, 2023-confirmed. Great film!
Thanks for this information, and thank you for another year!
I think 2012 must have been my first year then. Been attending most years since, and it's always a great joy!

Honestly, I wish I hadn't seen it. Near impossible to judge it on its merits as cinema and at times even hard to make out what's going on. Hopefully, it gets a proper restoration soon.

Masumura is actually a pretty big favourite on this forum, with films like A Wife Confesses and Red Angel in particular getting a lot of love, but I can understand why even ardent fans skip this one until further notice.
This had me digging through my bootleg binders (physical media!) for a copy that was made for me 15+ years ago by an academic colleague. Unfortunately, it appears to be the same fuzzy source data.

However frustrating it may be at times, the final list shows an impressive, collective, work, with contibutions by many, many great cinephiles. I'm pretty glad I got 11 movies in that list, as I'm glad I can get people to watch and enjoy them, returning the favor to some of those whose recommendations have been very valuable over time.

Thanks a lot for your work, Angel, this is really fantastic.

If i knew that there would be an all time list, i would have made some serious nominations. No Scooby-doo and useless Zulawski films next year then

Pre-code is a pretty fun era of arguably the first wave of b-movies, but goddamn WalterNeff is so annoying with that one-running gag that I get the urge to lower my ratings of all the pre-codes I've seen.

Yes, that joke wore out long, long, long ago. That, and the noir vs. Godard riff too.

Wow. I gained ONE film with the update (347 --> 348), and since I watched "Portrait of a Young Man in Three Movements" after its vote was announced, it's really as if my tally stayed exactly the same.

My understanding is that there was a huge bunch of TSPDT drop-offs this year (due to known and much-discussed reasons); many great films, classics and in general popular movies, so, I'd expect something just like that.

.. just checked: Went from 166 -> 200.
Movie mainstream pleb DtC confirmed :D
(Which is more back to the roots, anyway, as we didn't even have the monstrosity of a 2k canon + 1k 21st at the time, so what even IS left, eh? :P)

I'd just like to point out that both "Deerskin" and "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" have turned official during 2023.

I’m assuming we are all seeing DTC gains due to the drastic changes to the TSPDT lists due to S&S. If TSPDT gets more obscure, then DTC gets less.

Got two in, even if they were my two safest picks. Honestly, the ratings subverted my expectations. Expected the Kieslowski short and Opera to fare way better, and while I had low hopes for Southern Comfort and Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, they both did really well. I will continue to push these two along with The Prize next year, but will stop pushing Two for the Seesaw, since it doesn't seem to work for this crowd.

Thanks for all the hard work, Angel! This was a lot of fun.

Some people objected to that gigantic noir list being made official. As punishment for that, we have had to read the same pre-code joke every single week for many years. I had assumed Walt might have got bored of it by now but apparently not.

Independently of what I think of Walter's joke, it's a stupid move to upset yet another member of this forum, it's not like it's thriving.

Normally I'd agree, but he's literally made the same joke since 2016. It's absurd at this point.

Want to know how to stop Walter from making that same joke?

Adopt the pre-code list. :whistling:

Walter's pre-code comments always make me laugh. I admire his persistence in pushing an area that surely needs to be represented with an official list.
That's all, folks!

I'm not sure more people need to weigh in on a joke that Walter makes maybe once a month, but here goes.

Back in high school, my football coach was the kind of guy who loved making corny jokes. I'd call them dad jokes, but they were cornier than that. Grandpa jokes, maybe. And he had hundreds of them, ready for any occasion. The jokes themselves induced eye rolls, but my coach told them so gleefully that in the end it became kind of funny. I couldn't help but laugh at someone enjoying something so corny.

In any case, I feel very strongly that it's time ICM had an official list for post-code movies.

Not sure what's with Walter and his dad jokes, but I agree with the sentiment. ICM needs an official list for pre-code movies. It hays to be done.

Unfotunately I do not have complete data from 2013, but I would like to highlight another name from that edition: Site Admin mightysparks/DaveHedgehog, patroness of #815 Anjô-ke no butôkai.

What I would give to get all these guys together for a special edition!
I was pretty shocked to find myself so high on the influencers list as, until this year, I didn't see myself as being particularly skilled at this process. I conducted a mini audit for nostalgia. I'm listed as having got 14 in the summary list, but I did check Angel's detailed list, and I'm only listed at the influencer 13 times, so something not adding up there (EDIT: a twist in the tale, I appear to have participated under my IMDb username oOgiandujaOo at some point, and got in Chabrol's excellent L'oeil du Malin, Angel successfully realized that this was me, myself and I in his summary table, EDIT 2: also it appears I got in Le Grand Jeu!). I went back through my own records and cross-checked to ICM. I have been successful in getting stuff into DtC 16 times, but I've "lost" two due to happy circumstances, Khrustalyov actually graduated to the main TSPDT 1000 list, maybe because it got a blu-ray release (it's in the S&S top 1000 too, plus Rosenbaum's list, it really has a lot of recognition now), and Sleep Has Her House has graduated to the TSPDT 21st Century list, again probably because it got a blu-ray release.

I personally still see this as 17 successes, it's not a demerit to have films graduate, indeed it's kind of the point of the process, to highlight films. I guess it would be pretty hard to see results stated like that for everyone though. Chronologically starting with earliest nomination.

Le grand jeu / The great game (1934 - Jacques Feyder) 3.95/19 - successfully revoted last year
L'oeil du malin / The Third Lover (1962 - Claude Chabrol) 4.00/20 - successfully revoted last year
Khrustalyov, mashinu! (1998 - Aleksey German) 4.25/17 - graduated to TSPDT 1000
Frost (1997 - Fred Kelemen) 4.78/10 - successfully revoted this year
Meandre (1966 - Mircea Saucan) 4.07/16 - in place
Sleep Has Her House (2017 - Scott Barley) 4.22/9 - graduated to TSPDT's 21st Century list
Acht Stunden sind kein Tag 4.73/12 - in place
La vie à l'envers / Life Upside Down (1964 - Alain Jessua) 4.00/8 - in place
The Plague Dogs (1982 - Martin Rosen) 3.77/26 - in place
Alaya (1987 - Nathaniel Dorsky) 3.82/11 - in place
Le soulier de satin / The Satin Slipper (1985 - Manoel de Oliveira) 4.56/9 - in place
Bizalom / Confidence (1980 - István Szabó) 4.25/8 - in place
On Approval (1944 - Clive Brook) 3.70/13 - in place
Patterns (1956 - Fielder Cook) 3.69/22 - in place
Regain / Harvest (1937 - Marcel Pagnol) 3.8/9- in place
Gespenster / Ghosts (2005 - Christian Petzold) 3.67/14 - in place
Mollenard / Hatred (1938 - Robert Siodmak) 3.89/14 - in place

Is my key to success simply that I've participated 8 times?
