What got you to Platinum?
Platinum on BFI's 100 Documentary with Jazz. Another masterpiece from Ken Burns. Preferred the earlier episodes. And I like Baseball better than Jazz.
114 plats

White Sun of the Desert (1970) got me the platinum for IMDb's Western Top 50. I'm up to 58 platinums now.
I need 1-3 films on 7 other lists which I will check off eventually.

#117 - Oscar Documentaries
Have been 1 away from finishing this for weeks now. Finished it with I Am A Promise, which is about Stanton Elementary. I was waiting to watch this with my friend... since we both live very near Edward M Stanton Elementary, and he's a donor to the school, and we're both around the same age as the kids in this doc. However, I couldn't wrangle him to watch with me and I gave up and watched it myself. Turns out, there are TWO Stanton Elementaries in Philadelphia; and this doc is about M Hall Stanton Elemantary instead. Wild. Also, didn't think the doc was particularly great, although it certainly covers things everyone in Philly knows about the school system (hasn't really changed 30 years later).

I liked I Am a Promise when I watched it a couple of years ago.Tasselfoot wrote: ↑May 26th, 2023, 3:25 pm #117 - Oscar Documentaries

Have you seen Design for Death or are you counting the list as a platinum without that one? I plan to see Design for Death whenever I finally get a chance to visit the Academy Archive.

Not counting Design for Death, since it's not something I have a way to see. I guess if I get out to LA again at some point, I'll try and find a way to watch it? And The White Parade at UCLA.
Well done. The oscar and bafta lists are sisyphus platinums.
Red Beard (1965) gets me platinum #59.
It finishes off the IMDb 1960s list. There are four other lists where I'm one film away that I'll get to eventually. I've got platinums on all of the Academy Award lists, except for being one away on the Doc list (Design for Death) and two away on the Best Picture nominees list (White Parade and The Patriot). I've got the BAFTA Best Film list completed and am 14 away on the Best British Film.

Got plat on Slate's Black Film Canon now that Saint Omer is available on Hulu. Very tragic film.

#119 - Maariv's Best Israeli Films. 1st person to Plat this, despite it only being 40 films. Only 5 films have over 300 checks. 21 films have under 50 checks. And my favorite from the list is the LEAST CHECKED film... Paratroopers, with only 11 checks.
edit: forgot to add the ASC Cinematography as #118. Had 99/100 pre-release, we all knew it was getting added, so watched The Duellists to have Plat at launch.

#7 - IMDB Animation
Watched Wolf Children to get there. I know this is pretty small potatoes compared to some of the other platinums, but it's nice to start picking these up now I am no longer focused on the 1001 Before You Die list.
Have a few where I am <5 away from Platinum... so potentially going to get IMDB 1940s or Filmtotaal next. But think I am going to focus on getting through the trophies where I am 1, 2 or 3 away from.
Hoping to hit double figures by the end of the year

Tokyo Twilight gets me platinum #60 for IMDb's 1950s Top 50. Not my favorite Ozu, but still very good.

#120 - Sitges Film Festival. 1st person to Plat this. Had 19 when it went official... and mostly enjoyed the final 20+ I watched. Lamb and Jupiter's Moon were both way too slow for me, but Sisu, The Platform, Borgman, Citizen X all very good.
Lamb is excellent, weird but excellent, great way to finish the list!

#121 - They Shoot Pictures Don’t They. Finally got plat on this… been wanting to finish it for a while, and slowly inched closer and closer. Then wanted to wait for the S&S update, knowing it would cause big changes. Which it did.
Then it took about 2 months to watch all of Twin Peaks with my partner… she works a lot. We both enjoyed S1, but oy vey were S2 and S3 slogs. S3 especially felt really pointless for most of it.

Wow, congrats on finishing this colossus of the most colossal list!
