Whoa! Mighty thanks! I went through three pages of results on iCM -- I'm guessing most of these haven't been added.

Ye when I make lists for TSZDT I usually just put the URLs straight into a txt file instead of making it on iCM or IMDb but maybe I should start making them somewhere so it's easier to check them out.

Well, putting all lists on iCM would be a bit of a pain though maybe you have a shortcut (or just the data) that makes it easier for you because of TSZDT. It's certainly not an expectation -- I'd volunteer to help, but I also thought about having all these lists on my added by you pages and that didn't thrill me since we can't group things there.

Yeah, I was thinking of creating another account as a work-around, but wasn't sure that was the best idea. You know the free accounts were changed a while back. "Create an unlimited number of movie lists (with up to 5000 movies)". So if that helps ...

This is the one season where horror really fits my general mood and outlook, so I've especially been hunting for Christmas Horror (Hanukkah horror, Diwali horror, it's all acceptable).

Still slowly working my way through the lists. I'm about 2/3 done (~1000 to go). It's exhausting but I'm keen to do an update this year and see how the new weighting system works out. I found a few duplicate lists which are now gone and a lot of lists had updates. I've added the last few lists mentioned in here and some others and added to the OP.

If some of the (seemingly) endless ANOES and F13 sequels get dropped then my efforts will be less (probably both literally and psychologically!) ... I won't hold my breath. Any change will be good change.

I've finished going through all the lists woohoo! Boring part over. I found a way to bulk rename all files which means instead of taking me possibly weeks it will take a couple of minutes. Next up will be testing the new system and tweaking the weightings until I find a nice balance.

As a project, I took a close look at the current list and my own Top 1000 and was surprised to find only about 75% of your Top 300 is even in my 1000. You would expect difficulty filling a list of 1000 titles from any genre, so that much variance surprises me. One obvious difference is my own list is ongoing, which is just another reason to anticipate your update. Your most recent entry is from 2019 and I have 46 films from this decade. Then there are the titles I find extremely overrated, such as...

I can easily defend that there are 1000 (and more) better Horror movie than the above titles, though I see how some of these are considered culturally important to the genre. My biggest titles not included in TSZDT...

Holy hell, you wouldn't include F13 in a Horror Top 300(!)? Bold move, and I'm not a fan. The relevance can't be stressed enough.
I agree with the inclusion of all of the above in the upper half of the canon.
I disagree with the inclusion of basically all of your counter-examples, simply because they're deeep in the gray area.

In the end, it's not mighty's personal favlist (who knows how many she dislikes from the highest ranks), and if a gigantic neuronal network hivemind of horror librarians from the internet "decide" that High Tension is a cool (or at least important, cited-enough) horror movie and The Beguiled doesn't come to their minds often enough - then so be it.
Twisting with the formula enough to make one movie appear or another disappear will have disastrous consequences in every direction, anyways

btw, I personally believe we live in great times for the horror genre - which might sound paradoxical as tropes are rehashed and done again and again, but who cares? Not me! And I also believe that TSZDT is overstuffed with archaic museum horror from the 1930s & 1940s, or at least they're too high ranked. Making post-1980 titles overtake a few of them and having 2020s enter will be pretty satisfying for me .. and sad for others.

I see 1960 as the Big Bang for Horror movies. Only 170 of my titles come from before then, which shows how little value I place in watching a film for cultural significance.

Friday the 13th rode in on the backs of artistic achievements and showed how much money there was to be made from great marketing with little talent or effort.

I don't see one list as being better than the other, but the two lists work well in harmony, with my personal 1000 showing how many more great titles can be taken in with a broader definition of the Genre. We broaden out each in our own way. For example, we both have The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, which takes Horror elements to make family entertainment, but I also have Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and not Hocus Pocus.

I could easily replace half the list with better films but eh I'm not the one deciding lol. It's frustrating when I see crap in there when there are a lot of great films floating around in the 1000-1200 area that just don't appear on enough good source lists/all time lists but I could probably justify at least 90% of the list's inclusions based on their popularity/importance/whatever.

In other news the other day I finished fixing and tidying up the current lists--I discovered a few lists had duplicate films, usually accidentally putting Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living dead in there twice instead of their respective remakes. Also deleted maybe 20 duplicate lists while going through everything. I've been experimenting with different weightings and values in the scoring file but haven't settled on anything yet. Currently it looks like there will be about 150 new films but I'm not sure peeptoad will be that happy about the films not leaving the list

It will be interesting to see how the updated list shakes out and where it will put me in the rankings. At the moment, I am 104 films away from the Top 500. The next highest number is the Cahier's Annual Top 10 list where I am 18 away from the Top 500, but will reach that by the end of the month thanks to the Sight and Sound Challenge. I suspect that the update will put me further back in the standings, but we'll see.

Wow I think it got hacked or something because this was added to the intro 'so get your TV and a 55 inch tv stand with mount so you can be prepared to watch them comfortably' with a link to some spam ugh.
