What game(s) are you playing now?
I started playing A Link Between Worlds... And a few minutes later, I dropped it. The music in the first part of the game is terrible, extremely annoying and repetitive. I think this is the first time I ever dropped a game because of the music.
I also don't like the camera angle, because you're looking at everything almost from the top. I prefer A Link to the Past where you see characters and houses more from the front.

I finished Crash Team Racing (adventure mode, the 16 main tracks and the bosses, but I didn't do the extra stuff).
I thought the AI cheating in Mario Kart was bad, but the AI cheating in this game is much worse. The bosses have infinite weapons (just like Mario Kart AI), but they use the weapons at a much faster rate, sometimes even more than once per second.

The cheating in thoses games is so frustating and the worst part of CTR is the last boss actually cheats by starting ahead of you. I actually broke my PC playing them. Wipeout is another one and I think every other racing game in the 90's really wanted to test our patience.mjf314 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2023, 9:09 am I finished Crash Team Racing (adventure mode, the 16 main tracks and the bosses, but I didn't do the extra stuff).

And speaking of Crash, I beat Crash Bandicoot 1 yesterday. I've installed an PSX emulator and I plan to work on some other games from the system.

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor. It's a sort of mecha/tank simulator for the kinect. You sit down for the kinect controls, and also hold a controller in your hand and change up between using the two control schemes. It's by fromsoftware, and apparently it makes the souls game look like a joke in comparison... so that might be fun lol
Heh, the original Steel Battalion for Xbox was the one that came with that giant tank controller.Pretentious Hipster wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:43 amSteel Battalion: Heavy Armor. Yea apparently this game is just as complicated, it's just mostly with the kinect instead LOLflavo5000 wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:58 amHeh, the original Steel Battalion for Xbox was the one that came with that giant tank controller.Pretentious Hipster wrote: ↑March 16th, 2023, 11:43 amSteel Battalion: Heavy Armor. Thanks for the link suggestion!
There's a lot of the usual regulars, but also quite a few I'm not familiar with. I was surprised with Bionic Commando making such a splash (@ #3, sheesh) - as I've only played that for like a few mins. Quite a few RPGs as well - which I'm not as vested in - as I'm not as interested in like 40 hour story driven games, but I'd like to give the Final Fantasy games some better chances. I'm just quite happy having access to so many NES games and being able to play them at any moment, with my controller sitting next to me is just a weird sense of joy that I wouldn't have believed was possible like 15 years ago (even though it was certainly available then as well!)
So I do want to / plan to beat every NES/SNES game (a bucket list goal alongside completing every ICM list / visiting every National Park Site / visit every county highpoint / etc), but I will just have to take a random approach to one from the ether, and dedicate my time and effort into beating it. I think I'll try heavy save states at first, then go back and not use any save states as far as I possibly can make it (/ when there's a checkpoint, so I can at least have infinite continues - as every game should have).
Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but I do appreciate people's suggestions for NES / SNES - as I know there are a lot of hidden gems left to discover out there (like Goof Troop for the SNES is an amazing game you never hear about (2player co-op as well)) - which makes me wonder if there's anything else like it out there.

There are definitely some hidden gems. Disney in the NES/SNES days was like a stamp of quality that defied the usual stereotype of terrible IP-based games. Duck Tales is often rightfully mentioned as a classic but also Chip n Dale's Rescue Rangers (also 2 player co-op), Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Aladdin, The Lion King, Jungle Book, etc. I honestly can't think of any bad games produced by Disney back then (it helped that Capcom made a lot of them).Minkin wrote: ↑March 17th, 2023, 12:40 pm

And Bionic Commando is awesome. I played through it a few years ago and had a blast.
If you're looking for a shorter JRPG, you might like Terranigma (SNES). Although it's not short for an SNES game, it's short compared to other SNES JRPGs.Minkin wrote: ↑March 17th, 2023, 12:40 pm There's a lot of the usual regulars, but also quite a few I'm not familiar with. @outdoorcats - I adore Super Metroid and have played most all of them, but haven't made it far on the NES one (+never played the Game Boy one) - as I find the difficulty a bit too high on the NES game - but I love the franchise to bits.
@Flavo - I love the Disney Aladdin (had as kid) + Chip and Dale. Lion King was a rental that I could never get past the first stage. Later played it as an adult a couple years ago and was only able to get through it with major save state usage. Apparently Disney wanted the game to be very difficult as a way to get people to buy it rather than just rent it. Didn't realize Jungle Book was a game though, will check that one out + give Bionic Command another try.
@mjf314 I will give it a try once I feel ready committed to a lengthier story-driven game, which I am occasionally known to do, but thanks for letting me know about it! Would definitely feel more motivated by a SNES RPG than a NES one.
If anyone's looking for quality content - here's a YouTuber who's trying to beat every N64 game (US/Pal/Japan too). Seems quite determined and posts regularly. (thanks Pretentious Hipster for pointing them out to me)

If Terranigma is still too long, then maybe try Undertale (if you don't mind a modern game)? It can be beaten in under 10 hours, and it's probably the shortest of all the critically acclaimed RPGs. It's on sale right now, so you can get it from Steam for $2.99.

Fun fact, technical the tingle games have quite a bit to do with Undertale. The company that made the two tingle games were employees from a company called Love-de-Lic. They made a game called Moon, and the creator of Undertale said that Moon was a huge inspiration.
