Russell Banks, American writer, 82. Author of 14 novels and a dozen or so other books of short stories, poetry, and nonfiction, Banks was born in Massachusetts and lived for most of his life in New England and upstate New York, the settings for most of his work. A few of his works have been adapted to film, notably Affliction and The Sweet Hereafter; among his other better-known novels are Cloudsplitter, Rule of Bone and Continental Drift.

Paul Vecchiali is an excellent director, and a master at creating stunning and intriguing films from next to no budget whatsoever.

Not seen his more recent films, but I see he has a brand new one (marked as 2022 but no ratings yet): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18291508/ impressive he was working until the end.

It's not my style to check out the work of artists (only) when they die, but in this case it's a coincidence, that just is what it is and has to be then

RIP. Amazing that he lived as long as he did, given the way he lived his life. Certainly one of the greatest singers in rock history - I feel very lucky that I got to see CSN live once (no Y on that tour alas), though I don't remember it being a particularly remarkable show.

This might be common knowledge, but I only just found out today that she auditioned for Princess Leia.

Of course Carrie Fisher was wonderful, but I am curious as to how she would've fared in the franchise.

I have been putting off that movie for years because I'm worried it'll be too harsh for me, but it's been high on my watchlist for all that time. Maybe this is enough of a reason to finally sit down and watch it. I know it's inevitable, but it will be strange to me when there are no more survivors left to tell first-hand of their experiences in WWII.
