For those who have voted for Höstsonaten / Autumn Sonata (1978), please note that this was classified as a German film in the Germany poll and placed 55th there.

Out of curiosity, how you are treating Fanny and Alexander and Scenes for a Marriage?

Will votes from both the film's tt numbers be combined together, or will they be listed separately? I would personally prefer for miniseries and film votes to be combined into single entries, but I guess it would also be kinda fun to have both of the titles pop up twice in the results. :ermm:

Eligiblity question for Aniara, one of my best discoveries of last year. Spoken language is Swedish, but it is a Danish-Swedish-American co-production.

I watched it at Cinemateket and haven't been able to find it elsewhere, alas.

Thanks for listing Gunnar Hede btw, which prompted me to rewatch it. What a difference a good restoration makes, like night and day from what I had seen before.

I'll be taking a closer look at all the ballots later this week, but the two French films and one British film won't be eligible.

Thank you for your note Fergenaprido, I have made adjustments. In the three named cases I already thought so. But what about co-productions? Will the country first named on IMDb then be taken as the leading producer?

Is it possible to watch this one anywhere?
I watched it at Cinemateket and haven't been able to find it elsewhere, alas.

Thanks for listing Gunnar Hede btw, which prompted me to rewatch it. What a difference a good restoration makes, like night and day from what I had seen before.
I seee, hopefully they'll screen it again sometime soon.

Yeah, definitely. That one I actually watched at Cinemateket, like a completely different film from the earlier version almost.

It's got international funding, but it's still a Swedish film as far as I'm concerned, so it's eligible.

I'd hoped to watch a few extra films for this poll, but unfortunately ran out of time. As others have commented, it's hard to submit a Swedish list that isn't dominated by Bergman, despite the existence of other great films and directors.

1. Sommarnattens leende - Smiles of a Summer Night (Ingmar Bergman, 1955) ... who knew Bergman had a very funny sex comedy in him?
2. Låt den rätte komma in - Let the Right One In (Tomas Alfredson, 2008) ... a very rare non-English language film that also has a quality American remake
3. Det sjunde inseglet - The Seventh Seal (Ingmar Bergman, 1957)
4. Holy Spider (Ali Abbasi, 2022)
5. Turist - Force Majeure (Ruben Ă–stlund, 2014)
6. Persona (Ingmar Bergman, 1966)
7. Fanny och Alexander - Fanny and Alexander (Ingmar Bergman, 1982) ... need to watch the miniseries version at some point
8. The Square (Ruben Ă–stlund, 2017)
9. SĂĄnger frĂĄn andra vĂĄningen - Songs from the Second Floor (Roy Andersson, 2000) ... landed much better for me than his later films with similar style
10. Triangle of Sadness (Ruben Ă–stlund, 2022)
11. Smultronstället - Wild Strawberries (Ingmar Bergman, 1957)
12. En kärlekshistoria - A Swedish Love Story (Roy Andersson, 1970)
13. Jungfrukällan - The Virgin Spring (Ingmar Bergman, 1960)
14. Fucking Ă…mĂĄl - Show Me Love (Lukas Moodysson, 1998)
15. Scener ur ett äktenskap - Scenes from a Marriage (Ingmar Bergman, 1973) ... also need to watch the Swedish - and American - miniseries
16. Sommaren med Monika - Summer with Monika (Ingmar Bergman, 1953)
17. Ansiktet - The Magician (Ingmar Bergman, 1958)
18. Händelse vid bank - Incident by a Bank (Ruben Östlund, 2010) ... quality short, lots of action packed into what appears to be a single take
19. Körkarlen - The Phantom Carriage (Victor Sjöström, 1921)
20. Fröken Julie - Miss Julie (Alf Sjöberg, 1951)
Spoiler
I see Triangle of Sadness has been ruled eligible. Rulings on Holy Spider and Bergman Island (Mia Hansen-Love, 2021) would also be helpful. Sweden strikes me as a co-production nightmare for this exercise, although it seems like a pretty clearly secondary production source for a lot of quality Norwegian and Danish films in the last decade or so.

It was always* German lol. Take it up with the Swedish tax authorities that prompted Bergman to move to West Germany in the '70s. :D

*well, I suppose it was always German, though even I thought it was Swedish until we did the German poll last spring.

Sure it didn't turn out to be German last year, but come on.. when you can't even trust a movie with a Swedish title made by a Swedish director in Swedish language with a Swedish cast including Erland Josephson and Liv Ullman (who I just found is... Norwegian, WTF) to be Swedish, it means you can't trust any movie, until you do some research where is it really from

I feel your pain. Best avoid Sult, then, as you'll tear your hair out trying to figure out which country it's from (apparently all the actors speak their native language, so it's a Danish-Norwegian-Swedish clusterf*ck). ;) :D

Still, glad you're participating regardless. :)
