There's a new chatbot called ChatGPT, and you can use it as a movie recommendation engine

OpenAI released a new chatbot a few days ago: https://chat.openai.com/chat

I tried using it as a recommendation engine, and it's not bad, but it works better for mainstream movies. If the movie is too obscure or too new, it doesn't know it.

If you type "list of movies like [title]" it (usually) gives you a list of 10 recommendations.

It understands language so you can ask whatever you want. You can ask for a description of each movie, but if you ask for descriptions it'll give you fewer recommendations. You can also ask for recommendations in a specific genre or style.

Below are some examples of recommendations that it gave me.

I just asked ChatGPT to write an essay explaining why Hababam Sinifi is the best movie ever made.
Hababam Sinifi is a 1975 Turkish comedy film directed by Ertem Egilmez. It tells the story of a mischievous group of high school students and their antics at their boarding school. The film was a huge success in Turkey, spawning five sequels and cementing its status as a cultural phenomenon.

One of the reasons why Hababam Sinifi is considered the best movie ever made is because of its enduring appeal. The film's humor is timeless, with jokes that still make audiences of all ages laugh today. Additionally, the characters in the film are relatable and easy to root for, with each one bringing their own unique personality to the story.

Another reason why Hababam Sinifi is considered the best movie ever made is because of its cultural significance. The film is set in a boarding school, which is a common setting for Turkish films, and it captures the essence of the Turkish educational system in the 1970s. It also includes many references to Turkish history and culture, making it a valuable document of a specific time and place.

Additionally, Hababam Sinifi is notable for its strong ensemble cast. The actors who play the mischievous students are all incredibly talented and have great chemistry together, which helps to make the film's humor even funnier. The cast also includes many veteran Turkish actors, who bring a level of gravitas to the film that adds to its overall charm.

In conclusion, Hababam Sinifi is the best movie ever made for a variety of reasons. Its enduring appeal, cultural significance, and strong ensemble cast make it a timeless classic that is sure to make audiences laugh and feel nostalgic for the past.
I tried some other movies too. Sometimes it writes the review, and sometimes it refuses, saying that it's not able to give personal opinions.

I asked to write an essay on why Hababam Sinifi is the worst movie ever made. :whistling:
Hababam Sinifi, also known as The Chaos Class, is a Turkish comedy film released in 1975. While it may have been popular in its time, I believe it is the worst movie ever made.

First and foremost, the humor in Hababam Sinifi is outdated and unoriginal. The movie relies heavily on slapstick and physical comedy, which is not only overused but also not executed well. The jokes are predictable and fall flat, resulting in a movie that is not only unfunny but also cringeworthy.

The story of Hababam Sinifi is also poorly written and nonsensical. The movie follows a group of mischievous high school students and their misadventures, but the plot is thin and lacks coherence. The movie jumps from one random scene to another without any clear direction or purpose, resulting in a disjointed and unsatisfying viewing experience.

Furthermore, the acting in Hababam Sinifi is wooden and unconvincing. The actors seem uncomfortable and unnatural in their roles, and their performances lack any emotion or charisma. This only adds to the overall dullness and mediocrity of the movie.

Overall, Hababam Sinifi is a poorly made and unfunny movie that should be avoided at all costs. It lacks any redeeming qualities and is a waste of time and effort. It is rightfully considered one of the worst movies ever made.
Which movies does it not give reviews for? Is it because they are too obscure, maybe?

I asked it to write a negative review of Citizen Kane. Maybe there are some movies where it can only write a positive review.

I tried asking why some people think Citizen Kane is boring, and it was able to do it, so maybe you just need to word it the right way.

I don't think ChatGPT knows anything about iCheckMovies or the iCheckMovies forum, so I think it's guessing what it is based on the name.

Philosophically speaking I don't think it knows anything. Just my attempt at humour. The search box on ICM Forum is probably the worst search function I've seen on any website.
