I'm not going to bother this time. Sorry.Lonewolf2003 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2022, 2:13 pm I really hope there will be a lot more voters coming still, cause the turnout for a genre that's by far the most popular in challenges and also had an annual poll big enough to warrant a top 500, is quite disappointing so far.

I think the first year I participated I had 110, now I'm up to 200.

Why not just use an old list? Doesn't have to be updated, finely ordered and reworked everytimejoachimt wrote: ↑November 26th, 2022, 3:10 pmI'm not going to bother this time. If it's just old lists, why even bother doing these?

Filters included ICM and IMDB genre tags, plus a scroll through the more expansive TSZDT list. My rankings also consider how on point the film seems to be with the horror theme, so some of the less clearly horror content from TSZDT is relegated to unranked even if I rate the film extremely highly.

I mean, if the alternative is joachim posting no nominations at all ..
There were enough years where I wouldn't have more than 5 new titles in my Top 150 or so because I just hadn't seen enough new horror. Before I bother going through all of my year's ratings - which is WORK, which we don't like - I could just stick to the old, still good, core list. It's not like your own previous list version is suddenly all trash, right. It's better than nothing, RIGHT.

Thanks for hosting Tim. Looking forward to the results, especially seeing as it has been five years since the last poll. It will be exciting to see which horrors from the past few years get enough support to make an appearance on the list. I have added 108 new films since last time, unsurprising really when my favourite genre is horror and it's what I watch the most of.
Here are my top ten highest ranked additions since the last poll, alongside their overall rank in my list:
12. Come True
15. Midsommar
47. El Escapulario
63. Rent-a-Pal
69. Last Night In Soho
85. Resurrection
94. Pearl
97. It
100. The Sadness
105. Butchers

Halflife 50 means a list with more than 250 titles (ranked) makes no sense, right? Because the next films would get 0.xxx points.
Exactly. I don't like it if people just come in and post their old list without bothering to update. Since I'm not in the mood to figure out which titles to add, I won't post a list at all.

Threw in 118 longshots/buried treasures for a full list of 505 I feel good about.
I see that my most current favorite horror list is from 2014. What will you do to prevent me from posting it?

I say do what you want, BUT there have been literally dozens of good horror films released in that time.
Not joking actually a few of them could enter my Top 20 and even more should easily make the top 50. It's my favorite decade in horror cinema. (Some were even not from A24)
I just never updated my list since then and the longer you wait, the more work it becomes .. sigh!

We're approaching the poll deadline. I won't be vry active for the next 2days as khave an urgent work related task to finish. (yes the one that just woke ml e up at 4.30 am)

Actually, with a halflife of 50, one's #251 film will get 3.125 points. The formula is:Gordon_Gekko wrote: ↑November 28th, 2022, 3:33 pm Halflife 50 means a list with more than 250 titles (ranked) makes no sense, right? Because the next films would get 0.xxx points.
points = 100 * (0.5^((X-1)/halflife))
where X is the position of a movie on a list.
#1 = 100 points
#51 = 50 points
#101 = 25 points
#151 = 12.5 points
#201 = 6.25 points
#251 = 3.125 points
I believe you have to get down to #334 for a film to get less than 1 point. (Specifically, at that rank, ~0.98887 points.)

2022 has been a great year for horror movies, and the year isn't even over yet. I have eight horrors from the current year in my updated list (nine if you include The Black Phone, which wasn't widely available last year). It will be interesting to see how many (if any) make the top 250/500. I would place my money on Nope and Barbarian having the best chance.

The concept is so loose and hard for me to understand that I let IMDb be the only judge of what is and is not horror. Rankings are based on my overall top list.

Only ~37 of the 225 on my list are even from this century. I really need to beef up my views of late, so if you ultimately have any other recs I'll take them!sol wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 9:15 am https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/horrors/sol-/

Well, here's my list sorted by year of release, descending - https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/horr ... =year&desc - and I have also added Bodies Bodies Bodies and The Menu since originally posting the list, giving me an impressive lineup of 10 films from 2022.peeptoad wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 1:07 pmOnly ~37 of the 225 on my list are even from this century. Or do you mean recommendations beyond those that I have highlighted in my list?
I mainly was thinking of those beyond those in your list. I assume those to be recs by default since they're there... But the list you provided is helpful for parsing out the more recent releases, so thanks.sol wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 3:20 pmWell, here's my list sorted by year of release, descending - https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/horr ... Okay, no probs. Here's the 116 films tagged as horror that I have seen from the current decade, sorted by my star rating descending:
https://letterboxd.com/solh/films/decad ... ry-rating/
Anything 3.5 or above is a strong recommendation. Films rated 3 are mild recommendations; generally not 'good enough' to make a forum list poll for me.
Hope that helps!
Yes, it helps me get a sense of what's out there and prioritize. It always takes me a little while to get to newer releases, incl. horror (though I saw a fair # in Oct), so all recs are welcomed.sol wrote: ↑November 29th, 2022, 3:31 pmOkay, no probs. Nothing, you do what you want. It's a free forum.... sorta. I don't want to do that myself (not even sure if I even still got my previous list). If I would submit a list, I would like to update it, but I have other priorities at the moment. If it's just a matter of a quick filter of my favorites, then I would play along. But genres is always tricky. I can't go blind on horror-tag on IMDb, because I would certainly make mistakes both ways, leaving out great movies which I think are horror, and including movies with some horror elements in it which I don't think belong. So then I would have to go through the list one by one, which simply takes too much time.Torgo wrote: ↑November 28th, 2022, 10:33 pmI see that my most current favorite horror list is from 2014.
