Just updated my tab.mightysparks wrote: ↑June 21st, 2022, 5:59 am Or post here to let me know you have updated your sheet.
I can't easily check to see which tabs have been updated so if you do not do one of these things your update will not be included. I did go through them manually last time and changed the tabs myself but it took ages so I won't be doing it again.

My tab is updated--thanks again mighty!

A little under 3 days until I update the list. Just finished adding and fixing up all the new films from the updated lists so far. I hate that IMDb exports files with messed up formatting. Takes so long to fix

Dunno, the first time we did it everyone's files were fine and then something happened between that and the second one. It's happened before with IMDb, sometimes exporting perfectly and then other times being a douche. I think two people's files were fine this time so idk if it's a regional thing or an IMDb thing.

Also my spreadsheet keeps freezing and crashing when I'm trying to filter and sort so I think it has too much data lol. Already taken out all the formulas and just put them back in when I need to use them to save memory but it doesn't like 90000 rows of data...

ahhh, tomato, potato
explanation of Midwest USA idiom joke
the phrase "tomato, tomato" (pronounced tomato, tah-mah-toe) popped into my head as a response to mighty, essentially calling the same thing by two different ways. But since these are in fact two similar but very different things, I said, tomato, potato, which sounds close, but is actually very different. Anyway, the frog has now been dissected, and was probably not a very funny frog from the get go.

Should I include music videos in the 'Shorts' list?

Where else? They're certainly not feature films despite what IMDb wants to tell us (David Fincher, director of more "movies" than Hitchcock).

I've been editing any music videos I come across and adding the short genre tag to them on imdb. I think only a handful are actually feature length, mostly visual albums.

I know some people are against music videos being included as films, so the question was to either include them as shorts (which I do currently) or exclude them altogether.

Good work. It's weird how with Fincher in particular, if you just look at his main page it shows 59 titles under "Director: Movie", but then if you click to sort his filmography and check "feature film" there's only 13 - the correct number. I guess the word "Movie" means something different to somebody who has made these changes than it does to most of us. At the very least even if you did call them movies, they ought to be TV movies because they never showed in theaters, but then...ah fuck it, I can't make sense of the thinking.Fergenaprido wrote: ↑July 1st, 2022, 5:42 pmI've been editing any music videos I come across and adding the short genre tag to them on imdb. I'm sorry for the confusion, I tried to do it quickly at work, before the deadline, but I was so hasty I just confused everything...

It's ok if you couldn't take my list this time, but it would be even better if you can take it, I just corrected the mistake.
I'll do better next time...
Regarding videos, I would consider them as short films. Some of them are pretty brilliant, and it would be a shame to entirely discard them.

Oh, ok. No, definitely include them as shorts, why not? Look at all the major directors who got their starts doing music videos - and consider that an awful lot of older shorts from before the music video era, including some that are official checks and/or are very highly regarded, really ought to fall under the same designation and were made for the same purposes. Shit, they started making Soundies in 1940 and Vitaphone shorts in 1926. If Take on Me doesn't belong with other short films then several films on Rosenbaum's list don't either, and a lot of influential musical shorts. And the fact that music videos were originally (mostly) on TV shouldn't matter either, unless we want to get rid of Fanny and Alexander and a whole bunch of other TV films and mini-series also. I think music videos absolutely fit within paradigms that we already have for other kinds of films that we do allow. Fuck the haters.mightysparks wrote: ↑July 1st, 2022, 5:44 pm I know some people are against music videos being included as films, so the question was to either include them as shorts (which I do currently) or exclude them altogether.

I always forget that Canada Day comes so close to our Independence Day. Be glad you're a Canadian citizen, especially given what's been going on in your southern neighbor lately! I'm glad my nieces will have that choice should they need it.Fergenaprido wrote: ↑July 1st, 2022, 5:52 pmOkay. About to go to bed and I’ll be doing the update when I wake up so if anyone wants to submit their list they probably have 8-9 hours left.

I've seen less than 200 titles since the last update and nothing that I rate higher than '6'. So my current list can stand, right?
Ah, I just found a quick way to add the new stuff.
UPDATED
UPDATED
Just for fun, here are the 5 films that are currently on the top 1000 that I've seen since the last update, and the 2 I've seen from 1001-2000, with current ranking and my rating. Be fun to see how these change - though 4 of them are new films and will likely have gotten some votes besides mine. It'll be fun to see the changes in any case.
do u want 2 see?

I also agree so since no-one seems to feel otherwise I will leave them in. I think another reason people don't like them in there is the low number of votes and mafia type ratings but I don't think it's a big problem for this list.
Downloading all lists now and doing finishing touches and the lists will be updated once that's all done
