Yea, I played a lot of them back in the day but since I can't remember what I beat and what I didn't, I didn't log them. I played some Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island a couple months ago but got annoyed with it. In particular I've been meaning to go back and play through Super Metroid.mjf314 wrote: ↑February 12th, 2022, 11:52 pmAre you planning to play more SNES games in the future? I probably forgot some games that I played a long time, but I added as many as I could remember.

Although I usually only log games that I actually finish. Like Manifold Garden I played recently for about an hour or two but got annoyed with it and abandoned it.

Noticed a couple golf games in your list. I'd suggest Golf Story if you haven't played that one. I really liked it.outdoorcats wrote: ↑February 13th, 2022, 7:36 am Fun idea. Here's mine. Recommendations are always welcome!

I think the level design in Yoshi's Island is great, but I never liked crying Mario, and having to rescue him every time you get hit. Is that the part that annoyed you?
I'm not sure what your favorites are, so I'm not sure what to recommend.outdoorcats wrote: ↑February 13th, 2022, 7:36 am Fun idea. Here's mine. Recommendations are always welcome!

Do you like racing games? If so, then I'd recommend the Mario Kart series (my favorite is Mario Kart 64, but I think Mario Kart 8 is the highest rated on most websites).
If you like Donkey Kong Country, I'd recommend Donkey Kong Country 2. I think most people consider it the best game of the trilogy.
Yes. It started driving me nuts. I remember that happening when I rented it back in the day too.

Thanks! Never heard of Golf Story, it looks super interesting/quirky. Though it appears for now it is only on the Switch, I'll keep an eye out for ports.flavo5000 wrote: ↑February 13th, 2022, 1:09 pmNoticed a couple golf games in your list. 6. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

19. Terraria
20. Deus Ex

Do I like racing games? I guess I don't know, I don't have much experience playing them. I've only ever owned a potato PC and Playstations. It seems the best racing games are on XBox or Switch. Forza looks fun and if nothing else, super beautiful.
I didn't really like Donkey Kong Country that much. Maybe I'll give the sequel a try though?

I haven't played many of your favorites, so I'm not the best person to give recommendations. They're similar to each other, so if you didn't like the 1st, you probably won't like the 2nd. The 2nd is a little better, but not that much better. The 2nd game has more variety and better level design.outdoorcats wrote: ↑February 13th, 2022, 9:46 pm I didn't really like Donkey Kong Country that much. Maybe I'll give the sequel a try though?
Seeing Banjo Kazooie in my "unfinished" list was annoying me, so today I finally beat the game. I quit the game a long time ago, somewhere in the middle of the last level. I don't remember why I never finished it.
I've done that before with games (dropping it close to the end) but it's usually because it gets obnoxiously hard and I don't have the patience to play it over and over again. Viewtiful Joe, Azure Striker Gunvolt, Ghosts n Goblins and Starfox Adventures come to mind.

Been playing Pokémon Arceus since I finished Subnautica. Enjoying it and it feels a lot different from the usual games. I’ve played almost every regular Pokémon RPG game since 1999 (and gone back to play the ones that came out before then) and they are all more or less the same game so it’s nice to have something different. Feels like new Pokémon Snap and it’s very grindy but it’s relaxing and chill.
I keep dreaming about Subnautica (pretty much just the reapers lol) so I decided to check out Below Zero. I was gonna give it a few months but eh.. liking it so far. Feels quite different from the first one but also very similar so I’m interested to see how it goes. Those fecking sea monkeys though.
Bf and I have also started playing The Forest together. According to Steam I played 19 minutes back in 2014 before it got too scary for me. More tolerable with someone else lol. He finished the game a couple of years ago with his bro but doesn’t remember it and wanted to replay before the sequel comes out. Not bad so far but scary and quite a harsh survival game.

I played Helltaker. It's about 50% puzzles, 25% flirting with cute demon girls, and 25% bullet hell.
The puzzles are ok, but the game is short, so there isn't much variety. There's no "undo" key, so if you make a mistake you have to start over, which is annoying. At the end of each puzzle a demon girl asks you a question, and if you give the wrong answer you have to redo the puzzle, which is annoying.
I skipped the bullet hell level, because I'm not a fan of bullet hell (the game lets you skip levels).
I probably would've liked it more if there was less bullet hell and more flirting with cute demon girls.
I'm not sure why this game is the 18th highest rated game on Steam. I think it's a bit overrated.

I started playing OneShot. It was fun for a couple of hours, but I don't think I'll finish it.
The idea of having the character communicate with the player is kind of unique, but the rest of the game is kind of average.

I changed my mind and finished the game, since I was already more than half done. Apparently I need to play the game a 2nd time to get the true ending, but I don't really want to do that.

Everyone seems excited for at least one game coming out this year and I'm just here kinda bummed to see all the games that I want to play being delayed into 2023
Back to my own challenge I guess...
I've started Spyro Reignited Trilogy and just finished the first game. I had to tweak the controls a bit cause the fast paced movement was making me feel dizzy but outside of that, it's a really good remaster and wholesome videogame for everyone to enjoy.

I just finished Limbo.

INSIDE is Limbo, but even better IMO. (though I slightly prefer the b&w visuals of Limbo)

Yea, Inside is the follow-up game from the same studio. Really good stuff.outdoorcats wrote: ↑February 21st, 2022, 2:33 amINSIDE is Limbo, but even better IMO. (though I slightly prefer the b&w visuals of Limbo)
Thanks. I think I need a break from this genre, but I'll give Inside a try in the future.
I finished Knights and Bikes over the weekend. It was a pretty cute, hand-painted Zelda-style adventure game. I liked it.

Bought No Man's Sky on a whim. Was looking at games similar to Subnautica and it popped up. I had been interested in it when it first came out but all I heard was how terrible it was so ignored it. Turns out it's had lots of updates over the years and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm really into these resource collecting survival games at the moment. I bought Raft the other day but my bf wanted to play it together so I haven't done much on it but it seems fun too. He wanted to play NMS with me but I'm probably going to have some solo adventures until he has time to play. Trying to give Below Zero a break as I heard it's shorter than the first game and I don't want to get too far ahead for whenever my bf can play so we can discuss it. Got plenty of stuff to jump around between at the moment so that's pretty cool.

I started playing Cuphead. I like the visuals, but this game is too hard. I finished the first world, but I don't think I have the patience to finish the entire game.
I also started playing Cuphead and feel about the same. I mean, damn this game is hard...
Cuphead isn't so much hard as it is designed to force people to learn level layouts and attack patterns. All you need then is a little luck (based on the randomness of the patterns) and perseverance. It's pretty cheap game design imo, I did finish it though.

There are people who consider fair and hard to be two different parameters. Cuphead is simply unfair. But yeah, if you're wondering whether this is a chill game for a breezy pastime, then no

I started playing Gris. It looks nice, but the gameplay is boring. Just running around and some easy platforming. After an hour, I think I've had enough.
I just spent most of the day playing Final Fantasy 6.
It's better than most RPGs that I've played, but I'm still a little disappointed, because I don't think it's as good as Chrono Trigger. Hopefully it'll get better.

There's a point in the story where I felt it went from very good to great. Not sure how far into it you are though.
I loved Cuphead, and I'm not a particularly skilled gamer. Certainly not as difficult as the games I grew up playing. With time muscle memory takes over and the perfect little maneuvers and attacks you need to make become second nature. Nice dopamine rush thereafter as you progress through difficult stages of the game. Couple that with gorgeous art style and you have a pretty wonderful overall experience.
Just about every NES game was harder than Cuphead, which gives you plenty of restart points.
Most of the Konami games where you have to beat 6 levels with 3 measly lives were insane. Or something like Ghosts & Goblins. Mega Man was notoriously unfair too, though easier once you knew in which order to beat the bosses.

Ghosts 'n' Goblins for NES was a nightmare. I tried to go back and play that one on an emulator and gave up. Even with save states, that game is damn near impossible.Onderhond wrote: ↑March 5th, 2022, 9:19 amJust about every NES game was harder than Cuphead, which gives you plenty of restart points.

For a truly mind-numbingly frustrating experience, check out Darkman for NES.
Yup, exactly. Mega Man, Battletoads, Ghosts and Goblins are all games I spent 100+ hours with and never beat.Onderhond wrote: ↑March 5th, 2022, 9:19 amJust about every NES game was harder than Cuphead, which gives you plenty of restart points.

I can't afford either Horizon: Forbidden West or Elden Ring right now, so it's real hard trying to avoid stuff on the net on them (I generally want to go in pretty blind to both games). Especially since a lot of my favorite content creators on YT are Soulsborne people. So to distract myself I've been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider for the first time.
I played the first Tomb Raider reboot back when it came out a decade ago, and I don't remember the writing being this awful? It certainly had some B-movie-ish qualities, but I remember a game with surprisingly great characters and a surprisingly engaging story. This one's writing is comically bad. As if they got the same people who wrote the "dialogue" and "characters" for early 2000s FPS action games, then instead of mercifully leaving those elements in the background like those games did, pushed them to the forefront. There's a lot of looong, drawn out cutscenes of bad guys reciting dialogue ripped from Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and an incredibly convoluted, yet incredibly stupid plot.
And yet...I am still having fun. The core gameplay remains unchanged from Tomb Raider 2013 (that I remember) and it's still an addictive loop of exploring, crafting, hunting, fighting enemies, platforming and solving puzzles.

Stories are usually terrible in video games anyways
