49. W. Kamau Bell: Private School Negro (2018) 8/10 Heard positive things about this one and added it to my watchlist. Was not disappointed.
BONUS: Homie Don't Play That
Watch a comedy featuring a predominantly black cast.
This special and one of Dave Chappelle's are I think maybe the only stand-up specials I've seen that actually try to cross the aisle and come from a place of trying to understand the other side rather than relentlessly heckle and make fun of them (not that there wasn't some of that too).
Yeah, it was pretty good! I haven't checked out Chappelle's recent stuff as I have heard various things. But will keep it in mind.

10. Carlin at Carnegie (1983) 6/10
11. Sex Ed (2014) 5/10 There’s a lot about this film that didn’t work, but it was an okay watch after all.
12. The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) 5.5/10
BONUS: Great Minds Think Alike
Go here and watch an unseen comedy that a friend recently watched in the last two days.
BONUS: flavo5000 checked this movie 18 hours 32 minutes ago
13. George Carlin: You Are All Diseased (1999) 1.5/10
Except for saying he prays to Joe Pesci, this was horrible. Joking about terrorist attacks and shootings in churches, raping teenagers, and hating children, and NOT WASHING HIS HANDS EVEN AFTER GOING TO THE BATHROOM, I think I’m done with George Carlin. Which is sad, because I saw some funny clips on YouTube and was eager to check out his comedy specials.
14. Vai~E~Vem/Come and Go (2003) 5/10
15. Odette Toulemonde (2006) 7/10
16. The Cannonball Run (1981) 2/10

20. Supercondriaque (2014, Danny Boon) 7/10 HOOPLA
21. Rue Mandar (2012) 6/10 Okay characters story that felt like it could go in the direction of SUMMER HOURS, but played more for (cheap) laughs.
22. Lou! Journal infime (2014) 5.5/10
23. Klaus (2019) 6/10 comedy/animation NETFLIX
24. Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable (2018) 6/10

31. Voulez-vous rire avec moi ce soir? (2018) 7/10
BONUS: Too Funny for Fiction
Watch a comedic documentary and post a brief description of why it was funny (no sarcasm please...Shoah is not a comedy).
ANSWER: They discussed how it was possible for a German comic to be funny.
32. Bride of Re-Animator (1989) 2/10
33. Barbecue (2014) 6/10 French comedy.
34. The Wrong Missy (2020) 5/10
35. Que Horas Ela Volta?/The Second Mother (2015) hard to rate, was good, discussed class and upward movement,
36. Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics (2020) 6/10
BONUS: Woah
Watch a film featuring a drug trip and post a clip or screenshot of the trip in question.
Image
37. The Cat and the Canary (1939) 6/10 Kinda funny and kinda unsophisticated as well.
38. Humpday (2009) Saw this Saturday to honor the life of Lynn Shelton, a filmmaker who passed on Friday.
39. We Go Way Back (2006) described as a tragi-comic tale on IMDb-also directed by Lynn Shelton.
40. Bolt (2008) 5/10 This rating is generous. It’s on both Disney+ and Netflix. I saw it on Netflix. It’s also currently on two official lists.
41. Sheitan (2006) 3/10 The tone was really off. I don’t know why it’s supposed to be a “comedy” but I am so in the mood for anything tagged horror AND comedy right now.
42. Thirst Street (2017) 3/10
43. Winter Kills (1979) 3/10
44. The Cake Eaters (2007) 5/10
45. Coffee & Kareem (2020) 5/10
46. Zivot je cudo/Life Is a Miracle (2004) 6/10 Not Kusturica’s best, but still has the feel of one of his classics.
got to 50% (bronze) on TSPDT's Ain't Nobody's Blues but My Own with this film
47. The Last Days of Chez Nous (1992) 6/10
48. Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill (2020) 7/10
BONUS: It Could Happen To You
Watch a comedy that features a situation that actually happened to you in real life and provide details of what happened in both movie and reality.
Jerry Seinfeld talks about being THAT person who didn’t pick up his trash and also didn’t put it in the trash can after the movie. All I have to say is that I used to work in a movie theater and I was the OTHER person who had to clean up afterward (sometimes). If it was like a premiere or full house, well, it got me wondering who were these people that didn’t clean up after themselves and now I know…. (this doesn’t make me hate Seinfeld, but it did make him seem a tad out of touch, being a millionaire and me, being a relatively normal person).
49. W. Kamau Bell: Private School Negro (2018) 8/10 Heard positive things about this one and added it to my watchlist. Was not disappointed.
BONUS: Homie Don't Play That
Watch a comedy featuring a predominantly black cast.

51. Birthmarked (2018) 6/10
52. Marc Maron: End Times Fun (2020) 6/10
53. Love in the Buff / Chun Kiu yi Chi Ming (2012) MUBI 6/10
54. Le monde est a toi / The World Is Yours (2018) 2/10
55. The Incredible Jessica James (2017) 6/10

Buster Crabbe is never too engaging here, but Al St. John has plenty of fun moments as his travelling companion, stealthily dodging and befuddling his opponents in fights - and a good shot too. Frances Gladwin also makes for a feistier than usual love interest for a film of this sort, suspicious of Crabbe's motives throughout and always prepared to speak her mind. The film does not quite give St. John and Gladwin the screen time they deserve though.

I mean, Chappelle's newer stuff is definitely going to be polarizing to a lot of people. Especially The Bird Revelation and Stick & Stones where he's basically doubling down on criticisms against the metoo movement and critics of his comments on LBGTQ from an earlier special. He does make some valid points in each instance (and some not-as-valid points too), but I could see a lot of people just shutting down before getting to that point.

Here's your daily OP update! Thursday's origins are derived from Thor's Day, the Norse god of thunder. As such, have a clip from Thor: Ragnarok, one of the few actual straight up comedies in the Marvel universe courtesy of great New Zealand director Taika Waititi:

Don't know if your latest update to the OP went through? Everybody seems to be on their old numbers?

On a side note, I haven't seen any of the Thor related movies, but Waititi's name has me curious about Ragnarok, though no idea how it would work viewed as a standalone film.

Described by some as Spain's answer to Kingsman, this spy spoof may lack the inventive gadgets of its British counterpart, but it is entertaining all the same with an estranged father/son angle in the mix. Quim Gutiérrez and Imanol Arias have great chemistry together and there are lots of unexpectedly outlandish gags present (Arias sticking his hand up a cow's rectum; Gutiérrez causing an assailant to choke on his girlfriend's vibrator). Good banter too.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

This is one of my favorites among the Marvel Universe films and the other Thors are a lot of fun too, particularly the first one. I think it may work fairly well as a stand alone although some of the humour is definitely based on already knowing Thor's personality.

Pretty well, then again I always experience these films as stand-alone entries, regardless of whether I've seen the ones coming before. I really can't keep track of these franchises. Same with Star Wars.

Well, crud... I must've hit Preview instead of Edit. I'll go check it on my other laptop in a little while.
On a side note, I haven't seen any of the Thor related movies, but Waititi's name has me curious about Ragnarok, though no idea how it would work viewed as a standalone film.
You could probably watch it stand-alone. Wouldn't hurt to watch the first two, although neither of those would probably qualify as comedy (the first would come closer). Like psychotronicbeatnik, Ragnarok is one of my favorites in the Marvel universe too just because it's genuinely funny with a lot of Taika's humor very much intact (he actually plays the voice of this rock creature named Korg and it damned funny just on his own) and has a really vibrant, unique production design to it. About the only time it feels like a more typical Marvel movie is in the big finale.

I totally agree with both of these comments about Thor Ragnarok, especially the first one. I'm a big Jack Kirby fan and this is the closest any of the movies have come to capturing his brand of cosmic wowie. EDIT: Plus, Jeff Goldblum gets his best role in years.

Great. PTA has an amazing take on Sandler's typically rage-filled character that just made total sense.

115. My Favorite Wife (1940) Bonus: My Gal Thursday
Ellen Wagstaff Arden: Oh, by the way, how was my funeral?
Ma: Lovely. Doctor Blake preached a wonderful service.
Ellen Wagstaff Arden: Oh, I wish I had been there.

Image
116. The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947) Bonus: My Gal Thursday
Matt Beemish: Mr. Nugent, what you have is a severe case of being an innocent bystander.

117. Casper (1995)
I have vague recollections of catching parts of this while my younger brother watched it on repeat when he was a kid, but I don't think I ever sat down and watched it myself. In general... eh. As far as a kid's introduction to spooky flicks, you could certainly do well. A few of the jokes are mildly amusing and the production design is surprisingly good. Plus the cameos from the likes of Dan Ackroyd (in full Ghostbusters gear), Mel Gibson, Rodney Dangerfield and Clint Eastwood were kind of neat in a 'hey I wonder how much they got paid for that 2 seconds of screen time' kind of way.

Image
118. The Honeymoon Stand-Up Special (2018)
This stand-up special features the husband-wife duo of Moshe Kasher and Natasha Leggero. They each do a 30 minute set first then join the stage together for the last section basically doing crowd work in the guise of couples therapy. The first two sections are fine and occasionally mildly amusing. If you've seen either of comics before you probably have an idea what to expect. The third segment is probably the funniest just for the off-the-wall spontaneity of some of the problems the couples brought up on stage bring up. I feel like they don't truly take advantage of this dual format though. There's very little to tie together the first two sets, feeling more like just individual short stand up sets. Feels like a missed opportunity to establish some running jokes or more thematic complexity.

Image
119. Meet the Baron (1933)
Two idiots are found in the jungle, one mistaken for the famous Baron Muchausen (Jack Pearl) and the other for his manservant (Jimmy Durante). Wacky hijinks ensue as the lies and misunderstandings compound. Plus you get an early feature role from the Three Stooges as side characters who get sucked into the shenanigans. It's not terribly good to be honest. If you're watching for the stooges, you're better off with their shorts where their physically abusive comedy is distilled down to its essence.

Image
120. ReLIFE (2017)
Here we have an adaptation of the rom-com-sci-fi manga (previously adapted as an anime series) that captures the essence of the story decently well although some of the jokes just don't work quite as well in less expressive live action (like Hishiro's attempt at a smile that comes off looking incredibly sinister rather than sincere) as they do in the anime. But the core of the story is still a solid one about a man who's on the verge of burn out in his late 20s unable to hold down a job who is approached by a mysterious guy in the street that offers him an opportunity to take part in an experiment that involves taking a drug that will de-age him ten years where they will send him back to high school to see if he can improve his social skills and become a more productive member of society. In exchange they will use their extensive connections to get him a very good, high paying job after completing one year of the study. Yes, the premise is absurd but the anime really pulled it off, and this movie does as well to a little lesser extent. In the hierarchy of live action adaptations of manga/anime, it's not at the top with the likes of Oldboy but it isn't down in the dregs of the Dragonball Z live action movie either. Pretty decent watch overall.

121. My Favorite Year (1982)
I enjoyed this one, the story of writer for a comedy variety show in the '50s who is tasked with basically babysitting an Erroll Flynn-esque actor who's appearing on the show that week and who seems to have a severe drinking problem. The cast is great here with Peter O' Toole playing the actor really well, really selling the innate charm required to get away with all the shit he gets into. Mark-Linn Baker's really good here in a role that requires some supreme straight man comedy chops as well as a dose of sincerity that can be tough to pull off.

33. Barbecue (2014) 6/10 French comedy.

37. The Cat and the Canary (1939) 6/10 Kinda funny and kinda unsophisticated as well.

43. Winter Kills (1979) 3/10

got to 50% (bronze) on TSPDT's Ain't Nobody's Blues but My Own with this film

Ok, let's try this again. I swear the OP got updated this time. Please triple check though. Something is bound to be messed up.

It feels appropriate after messing up the OP stats once again to kick off the weekend with a clip of Kathleen Turner's vicious fury fueled by the grand guignol self-destruction of she and Michael Douglas' crumbling marriage in the Danny DeVito directorial effort War of the Roses:

25. College (1927) - Another Buster Keaton film. This one tries to paint Keaton as an unathletic bookworm trying to impress a girl by joining several collegiate sports teams. There are some great gags and wacky shenanigans however, some of the stunts aren't as inspired as other Keaton films. I would recommend watching it but probably not as a starting point for the uninitiated to Keaton's work.

Spain's answer to Superman, this is a little slow to warm up with tons of exposition, but once the film settles into him speeding around his workplace, making ice cubes from tap water and so on, a nice comedy angle takes off. There are also lots of laughs later to come involving his boss battling a robot vacuum cleaner, a robot version of his girlfriend and a hilarious first sarcastic comment about his mum that his girlfriend makes upon seeing his suit.

Dorothy Page makes for a decent protagonist here and it is refreshing to come across an American western from this era that circles around an assertive female protagonist who uses her wits to outsmart the bad guys. Many of the plot elements are nevertheless quite familiar, and gender reversal aside, the film plays to many of the clichés of the westerns of the time, including a couple of pleasant but hardly thematically relevant songs.

122. The Birdcage (1996)
So I thought this was a pretty solid remake of La Cage Aux Folles and stays pretty close to the source aside from some regional changes. Nathan Lane was ok but seems to coast on playing type of role a lot. Robin Williams' character really seemed to have a lot of depth to him and I thought he did a very good job in it. One of the funniest things to me in it was when Nathan Lane was impersonating John Wayne's walk with a very effeminate kind of sashay and looks over at Williams with a perplexed look on his face. "No good?" "No, it was perfect. I just never realized John Wayne walked that way.

Image
123. Basket Case 2 (1990)
Man, Hennenlotter really doubles down on the crazy freakish characters with a whole menagerie of disfigured people to join in on the fun with our old pals Duane and Belial who you only THOUGHT fell to their death at the end of the previous movie. I think it's safe to say if you liked the first movie, you will probably like this one too. It has the same sense of deranged chaos but with even more crazy makeup effects.

Image
124. A Brony Tale (2014) Bonus: Too Funny For Fiction
This documentary mainly follows Ashleigh Ball, voice actor of several characters on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and her thoughts and impressions on brony culture in general and interactions with various fans while also profiling some of the fans and showing the broad scope of types of people who are into the show. While the movie does have some gentle prodding at the expense of the bronies, it also really shows how many of these fans are coming from a less pervy and more pure place of just appreciating the show's message of friendship and it's quality of writing and animation.

Image
125. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011)
I'm not really sure how these kinds of 'older folks finding themselves later in life' keep finding their way into my watch pile. This one in particular, while not mind-blowing, is still a pleasant and fairly charming little story of a group of British elderly who find new life experiences while visiting a junky old hotel in India. You've got reliably solid British actors like Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson and Bill Nighy who elevate the material more than it may be otherwise and Dev Patel as their hapless host who dreams bigger than his means allow. It's fine but probably not one I'll revisit any time soon.

Image
126. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)
There are things about this gritty action comedy heist film that I liked with Eastwood basically playing a less moral version of himself and Jeff Bridges as his sidekick who tags along for a return to a heist from several years ago that didn't quite pan out the way they intended. Honestly the best thing about it is the great banter and camaraderie than Eastwood and Bridges have with each other. They make it seem so effortless as if they've always been friends. A big part of this is probably due to Cimino's script, and while Cimino may eventually go mad with power later on Heaven's Gate, here he has a confidence in his characters that shows his promise.

Image
127. How to Be a Latin Lover (2017)
Directed by Ken Marino, almunus of MTV's The State and formerly of Party Down and other good stuff, this movie has some genuinely very funny moments but also comes across a little lazy and predictable at times as well. Eugenio Derbez is well cast as a skeazy layabout who has been coasting most of his life off charming an elderly rich woman to live in comfort. But when she suddenly tosses him out in favor of something younger, he has to try to conjure up that mojo he used so long ago to land another big fish. Rob Lowe has some really funny stuff as his friend, particularly a scene later in the movie where he's dressed in a stripper cop uniform as a distraction. Honestly the stuff that fell flat the most was the interactions with Derbez' nephew and sister and the morals that felt overly forced into the plot. Still it's a pretty decent comedy if you're looking for something amusing to check out.
