98. Los lunes al sol a.k.a. Mondays in the Sun (2002)
I had trouble getting into this one. There was very little forward momentum to the movie, leaving the audience as aimlessly adrift as the unemployed characters in the film.

Image
99. Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)
Relentlessly unnecessary... Follows basically the same story beats as the first two almost to the point of parody with a ridiculous Fat Amy subplot involving a long lost father (played by John Lithgow with a ridiculous accent) who's a career criminal. I see no reason to watch this unless you really enjoyed the first two or hate yourself like me and feel the need to try to complete the Box Office list.

Image
100. Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985)
So it's probably been at least 25 years since I've seen this one (I had seen the first one a little more recently, so decided to skip it in favor of the sequel) and rewatching it, I'm not sure I ever actually watched the unedited version. It was probably recorded off TV on a VHS that we'd watch along with a bunch of other random stuff like old Disney movies (Sword in the Stone was my JAM) and Ghostbusters II for some reason. Anyway, watching it now, it definitely was not even close to as entertaining as the ten-year-old me thought it was. Michael Winslow's badly dubbed kung fu guy impersonation really just doesn't do it for me anymore sad to say...

Image
101. Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989)
How have I never watched this entertaining horror-comedy-western hybrid? It's got a pretty unique premise that I don't recall seeing anything else tackle until maybe True Blood, involving vampires who just want to live alongside people and work to create an artificial blood, so they don't have to feast as they historically have. With David Carradine as the cultured and compassionate head of the town of Purgatory, they seem on the verge of what they hoped to achieve (M. Emmett Walsh knocking a particularly rude guy's head off notwithstanding) until a rival vampiric gang who wants to take their rightful place in the food chain shows up in a wild west-style showdown. Bruce Campbell also pops in as a bumbling descendant of Van Helsing who wants to stomp out all vampires, good or bad. It's not a perfect movie for sure with too many extraneous plot threads and a kind of aimless first half but it picks up in the back half of the movie and is a decent watch for '80s horror comedy enthusiasts.

Image
102. Insignificance (1985)
This was a weird one... Watching Marilyn Monroe explain the Theory of Relativity to Einstein in a sweaty hotel room is not something I thought I'd see in a movie this month...

Image
103. Sex Madness Revealed (2018)
Without giving much away, on the surface this appears to be a screening of the old hokey "educational" sex ed film Sex Madness with an audio commentary by a podcast called The Film Dick (with the host being played by Patton Oswalt) who has brought on a special guest, a descendant of the director to explain the back story of the movie and provide behind-the-scenes details of various notes he had discovered in his grandfather's things. Suffice it to say that there were some rather peculiar revelations regarding the film that culminates in something quite ridiculous. I thought it was pretty amusing and entertaining in its execution but it did feel a little overly telegraphed by the person playing the expert guest at times.

Image
104. Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)
After almost killing Matthew McConaughey in a freak plumbing accident while filming an episode of Between Two Ferns, Zach Galifinakis is forced by Will Ferrell, his producer of the show, to go on the road and track down ten celebrity interviews across the country and get them back to him in two weeks to sate Ferrell's hunger for more clicks that the show brings to his Funny or Die website. In return he offers Zach his dream of a legitimate late night talk show like he's always wanted rather than the webisode public access farce he currently has. It's all basically an excuse to have a series of Between Two Ferns interviews with some road trip shenanigans mixed in. It's definitely funny in places. If you've seen Between Two Ferns, then you pretty much know what to expect. Also stay for the clips during the credits. Many of them are as funny if not more so than anything in the movie proper.

12. The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) 5.5/10
BONUS: Great Minds Think Alike
Go here and watch an unseen comedy that a friend recently watched in the last two days.
BONUS: flavo5000 checked this movie 18 hours 32 minutes ago
13. George Carlin: You Are All Diseased (1999) 1.5/10
Except for saying he prays to Joe Pesci, this was horrible. Joking about terrorist attacks and shootings in churches, raping teenagers, and hating children, and NOT WASHING HIS HANDS EVEN AFTER GOING TO THE BATHROOM, I think I’m done with George Carlin. Which is sad, because I saw some funny clips on YouTube and was eager to check out his comedy specials.
14. Vai~E~Vem/Come and Go (2003) 5/10
15. Odette Toulemonde (2006) 7/10

22. Lou! Journal infime (2014) 5.5/10
23. Klaus (2019) 6/10 comedy/animation NETFLIX
24. Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable (2018) 6/10

ANSWER: They discussed how it was possible for a German comic to be funny.
32. Bride of Re-Animator (1989) 2/10
33. Barbecue (2014) 6/10 French comedy.
34. The Wrong Missy (2020) 5/10
35. Que Horas Ela Volta?/The Second Mother (2015) hard to rate, was good, discussed class and upward movement,
36. Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics (2020) 6/10
BONUS: Woah
Watch a film featuring a drug trip and post a clip or screenshot of the trip in question.

37. The Cat and the Canary (1939) 6/10 Kinda funny and kinda unsophisticated as well.
38. Humpday (2009) Saw this Saturday to honor the life of Lynn Shelton, a filmmaker who passed on Friday.
39. We Go Way Back (2006) described as a tragi-comic tale on IMDb-also directed by Lynn Shelton.
40. Bolt (2008) 5/10 This rating is generous. It’s on both Disney+ and Netflix. I saw it on Netflix. It’s also currently on two official lists.
41. Sheitan (2006) 3/10 The tone was really off. I don’t know why it’s supposed to be a “comedy” but I am so in the mood for anything tagged horror AND comedy right now.
42. Thirst Street (2017) 3/10
43. Winter Kills (1979) 3/10
44. The Cake Eaters (2007) 5/10
45. Coffee & Kareem (2020) 5/10
46. Zivot je cudo/Life Is a Miracle (2004) 6/10 Not Kusturica’s best, but still has the feel of one of his classics.
got to 50% (bronze) on TSPDT's Ain't Nobody's Blues but My Own with this film

This gets off to a terrific start, playing out as a dark thriller with Penélope Cruz covering up an accident for her daughter's sake, and from a paper towel ever-so-slowly absorbing blood to dragging stuff at night, this initial stretch is excellent. As the film progresses though, the thriller elements go on the backburner with the fantasy themes emerging, which are played out with a weird if very watchable mix of bubbly comedy and miserable melodrama.

This begins decently with a lot of humour coming from a straight-faced Matthew Perry unsure of how to react to the kookiness of Chris Farley and others, with an amusingly unfunny sheep dung anecdote standing out in particular. The comedy soon becomes rather lame and repetitive though. Energetic as Farley is, his character is never particularly likeable and an ogling Perry barely registers as more sympathetic, while everyone else is silly.

The basic story is no great shakes here, but it is curious to see a western from the 1940s that offers such a positive portrayal of Mexicans as brave and honorable and Americans as sneaky and deceptive. The chemistry between leads Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo feels very real too. Nobody else makes much an impression though and a prostitute/romantic interest obsessed with getting golden sandals is more irksome than cute or quirky.

Workin' That List Post 3 watches from the Film Comedy list in one post.
Can this be three shorts or does it have to be full length releases?

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

10. Carlin at Carnegie (1983) 6/10
11. Sex Ed (2014) 5/10 There’s a lot about this film that didn’t work, but it was an okay watch after all.
16. The Cannonball Run (1981) 2/10

20. Supercondriaque (2014, Danny Boon) 7/10 HOOPLA
21. Rue Mandar (2012) 6/10 Okay characters story that felt like it could go in the direction of SUMMER HOURS, but played more for (cheap) laughs.
22. Lou! Journal infime (2014) 5.5/10
23. Klaus (2019) 6/10 comedy/animation NETFLIX
24. Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable (2018) 6/10

30. Manson Family Vacation (2015) 5/10 Some hits, some misses.
31. Voulez-vous rire avec moi ce soir? (2018) 7/10
BONUS: Too Funny for Fiction
Watch a comedic documentary and post a brief description of why it was funny (no sarcasm please...Shoah is not a comedy).
Image
47. The Last Days of Chez Nous (1992) 6/10
48. Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours to Kill (2020) 7/10
BONUS: It Could Happen To You
Watch a comedy that features a situation that actually happened to you in real life and provide details of what happened in both movie and reality.
Jerry Seinfeld talks about being THAT person who didn’t pick up his trash and also didn’t put it in the trash can after the movie. All I have to say is that I used to work in a movie theater and I was the OTHER person who had to clean up afterward (sometimes). If it was like a premiere or full house, well, it got me wondering who were these people that didn’t clean up after themselves and now I know…. (this doesn’t make me hate Seinfeld, but it did make him seem a tad out of touch, being a millionaire and me, being a relatively normal person).
49. W. Kamau Bell: Private School Negro (2018) 8/10 Heard positive things about this one and added it to my watchlist. Was not disappointed.
BONUS: Homie Don't Play That
Watch a comedy featuring a predominantly black cast.

This special and one of Dave Chappelle's are I think maybe the only stand-up specials I've seen that actually try to cross the aisle and come from a place of trying to understand the other side rather than relentlessly heckle and make fun of them (not that there wasn't some of that too).

Workin' That List Post 3 watches from the Film Comedy list in one post.
Can this be three shorts or does it have to be full length releases?
I'd have to say it needs to be three points worth of watches. Otherwise it wouldn't be fair to everyone who has already completed the challenge and watched three full movies for it.

105. Un chapeau de paille d'Italie a.k.a. The Italian Straw Hat (1928) Bonus: Roll of the Dice
This story set in motion by a horse that eats a lady's hat while she's making out in some bushes has some chuckleworthy moments and has a pretty clever script but didn't really bring out the gut-churning laughter I was hoping for based on some reviews I had read of it. It also happened to be the comedy in the most official lists (7 of them) that I hadn't seen.

Image
106. Paterson (2016)
This was a very easy-going Jim Jarmusch that focuses on the little moments in life that add up to something meaningful in a story of a bus driver who writes poetry in his spare time. Adam Driver does really well in these kinds of introspective roles and this one is no different. It might be Jarmusch's least plot-driven film (which is saying a lot) and while I don't think I'd consider it one of his best, somehow Jarmusch has a way of making scenes where very little occurs still very watchable.

Image
107. Lust in the Dust (1985)
Feeling like the John Waters western that was never made with Waters alumni Divine and Tab Hunter in tow along with ringer character actors like Geoffrey Lewis and Henry Silva, if anyone's gonna make a John Waters-esque, bawdy, raucous silly western it'd be Paul Bartel, director of ridiculous films like Death Race 2000 and Eating Raoul. This is definitely no masterpiece and is ultimately kinda dumb, but if you can get on its wavelength, you can still get some entertainment out of it.

Image
108. Charlie Bubbles (1968)
This dramedy about a married man named Charlie Bubbles (Albert Finney) who has a dalliance with his broadly-acted American secretary (Liza Minnelli) almost feels like two different movies at war with one another. Minnelli chews some major scenery in her scenes and offers much of the comedy in the film while Charlie's wife Dottie (played by Billie Whitelaw very well) almost seems like she's in a totally different movie more akin to the more emotionally raw performances of films like Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf or Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. I don't think this is a great movie, but it definitely has great moments.

Image
109. I'll See You in My Dreams (2015)
This autumnal rom-com with Blythe Danner and Sam Elliott is pretty dull and predictable for the most part. Granted I'm probably not the target audience but the writing still felt very lazy. This is why I need to stop buying any blu-ray I come across that happens to be a dollar...

This is totally your call, flavo, but I'd go the other way - the rules from the beginning of the month are ambiguous, and I would lean towards inclusiveness. Personally, I finished this one passively because I kept watching things that were on the Film Comedy list that didn't count for anything else and I'd begrudge no one for doing it with shorts [which, incidentally, would have been my plan if I hadn't a) finished the challenge with no issue, or b) hadn't already watched all the shorts on that list].

Rewatch 'cause it's been 15 years. Better than I remember it, I appreciate and found humor in a lot more of the social situations Harold was placed in. Slightly surprising to me, will be going on my favorites list.

42. The Cable Guy (1996)
Rewatch 'cause it's been 20+ years. I genuinely like Jim Carrey and loved his mid-90s movies (Ace Ventura, Mask, Dumb & Dumber), but hated this when I first saw it. It's not what you'd expect from a Jim Carrey movie at this time, but he's REALLY good in it. Unfortunately, he's opposite a black hole of "interesting", Matthew Broderick, who sucked any life or sympathy out of this film. Turns out I just don't like Broderick.

43. The Circus (1928) SH: .....
For me, too much "meh" humor, not enough clever humor or amazing stunts. Don't get me wrong - it was fine, just a 6/10 for me and enjoyable enough, just not something I'd want to see again or care about. So here's what I found fun and clever:

As much as I want to agree with you... I don't. Just watched it, and it fell kinda flat for me. The parody elements were there, as was the gross humor, but the plot was random and the joke "density" didn't come up to snuff. Like you see the obvious jokes, but the throwaway jokes are lacking. Not Another Teen Movie was WAY better in this respect for me.

Well, two things on that.

1) I'm kinda comparing it to later parodies like "InAPPropriate Movie", "Meet the Spartans", and "Disaster Movie". It's a low bar.

2) It was maybe the trip down memory lane for all the parodied movies. I graduated high school in the late 90s with friends that worked in movie theaters, so I had pretty much watch all the references.

Plus I kinda think that Anna Faris is pretty underrated.

35. Scary Movie (Keenen Ivory Wayans-2000) Scavenger Hunt: Workin' That List

As far as super dumb comedies go, this is one of the better ones.

Well, in response...

1) I'm not sure that's a "low" bar but a "LOW" bar. :P
2. Ditto - I graduated 2000 and had seen just about everything. Hence my love for Not Another Teen Movie.

And yeah - Anna Faris is underrated, but I'd argue she's at her worst in the Scary Movie series. I like her so much more in pretty much everything else she's done.

Interspersed with songs throughout, this never really works up much in the way of tension. There are a couple of cute scenes as Tex Ritter humours a young lad who insists that he is the "the sheriff", though this charm dissipates once the boy gets a chance to sing. Jerry Bergh is quite acceptable as the boy's mother and romantic interest here, but it is a pretty one-note role, with the movie mostly existing to give Ritter a chance to sing and shoot it out.

This stars Buster Crabbe in a dual role and the film mounts a decent fistfight scene in which Crabbe brawls with himself thanks to clever framing and choice reaction shots that hide the use of a stunt double. This angle is not quite played up for all that its worth though with very little comedy at the expense of confused identities. Al St. John is electric is as ever though and he is nicely given lots to do here, from bike stunts to falls to tricking Crabbe.

23. Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019) - The funny or die series gets expanded into a full movie. While it has some funny stuff, the best jokes came out of the interview segments and the outtakes during the credits. I wish the actual "show" part was longer with less of the framing device. But if you like the series, this is definitely worth a watch.

Not all of humour works here as it sometimes feels like the filmmakers are mocking their OCD characters, cracking jokes at their expense. All of the characters are extremely relatable and down-to-earth though and the growing camaraderie between them always feels very real with all concerned turning in fine performances. The filmmakers make great use of the limited environment too, successfully playing off the inherent claustrophobia.

Welcome to Wednesday! OP has been updated again. Hopefully I'm not screwing up on stats as much as I have been. Harem Scarem is still the only challenge task to have been completed just once. I guess some folks just have no appreciation for animation.

Now have a clip featuring Kevin Kline's scenery-chewing, villainous, Oscar-winning asshole character from A Fish Called Wanda flippantly taunting poor animal-loving hitman Ken:

This begins decently with a distinct Dirty Rotten Scoundrels vibe, but crucially lacks the one-upmanship of something like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with the two rivals enacting their conning schemes while seldom interacting with one another. All of their plans take quite a bit of time to develop too, which limits the film's ability to be constantly zany and surprising. Things take a fairly interesting (if silly) detour in the final half-hour though.

111. Two for the Road (1967)
This was an interesting one starring Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn as a married couple who experience both a turbulent and joyous life together, told out of sequence to juxtapose the good times and the bad more evenly and draw parallels between them in the bloom of youth and more cynical with children. Finney and Hepburn are both great and have a natural chemistry together. Really the only complaint I have is that some of the jump cuts through time are so abrupt that it can be confusing at first determining where on the timeline we are. I have to wonder if (500) Days of Summer was influenced by this. It almost felt like a remake in places.

Image
112. Out 1: Spectre (1972)
Well, I had watched the 8+ hour version of this a couple years ago and found it exasperating and difficult to engage with. Watching the shorter (although only by comparison) 4.5 hour version, I think this is the better version although still entirely too long. Several of the interminable rehearsal scenes from the long version were edited down which helps give it more of a narrative focus. Despite that, the movie still feels way too loose for me to engage with.

Image
113. The Toy (1982)
I watched this a long time ago when I was much younger and definitely didn't get the racial subtext that on rewatch is pretty blatant in places. Not only do multiple rich, aristocratic southerners refer to Pryor's arrangement as "buying a black man" but there are Confederate flags peppered in the background as an additional reminder of the humiliation of the situation. Anyway, in general it isn't terribly funny with most of the laughs coming from just watching Pryor goof around (although I also did enjoy that classic trope of the strict disciplinarian who's secret a sex fiend manifest by the boy's home school teacher trying to jump Pryor's bones, switching gears from scolding to smoldering at the drop of a hat). It gets far too saccharine in places though to keep up any kind of comedic momentum.

Image
114. Couples Retreat (2009)
Eh, this was a classic example of a good cast wasted. You have the likes of Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Malin Akerman, Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau and Jean Reno among others who have all turned in great stuff in the past seemingly stranded in this lifeless slog of a relationship-in-trouble comedy that forgets to actually include jokes. It's most just unpleasant, watching couples fight with no punchlines and with a way too neat and tidy ending given some of the character traits involved.

Bonus X 3:

Share the Love - Mars Attacks - I re-watched this with my 5 1/2 year-old-son. This is only his 8th movie and I have not quite figured out what will make him laugh in a movie, but I don't think anyone could have predicted that his biggest laugh would come from the retro 70's swiveling bubble chairs that Sarah Jessica Parker has on her TV show set. He was not surprised at all by the Martians as we have studied many of the original card images together in a book on the 60s monster craze.

It Could Happen to You - Big Momma's House - My favorite aunt was called Big Momma by everyone in my dad's rather large extended family. Unlike the Big Momma of these movies she was a petite and extremely nice woman - which made the nickname even funnier. It was her kindness and love and the best fried chicken of all time (her husband called it dead yardbird) that earned her that name. She lived up the street from my grandmother, Ma Bet, and when visiting, us kids would always go inside Ma Bet's house to politely say hello then hightail it down to Big Momma's house to hang out with her and Big Daddy.

Too Funny For Fiction - Good Hair - This doco on the importance of hairstyles to black women and men was eye-opening, fascinating and very amusing thanks to Chris Rock's presence as on-screen narrator.
