Just going with the flow in 2020, continuing with the year 1945 and on, with the secondary priority breaking the old "Guinness Book of Records entry of most feature films seen in a calendar year" for the 9th time a row (the record was 1,132 when I first started becoming a movie buff). In other words, no stress at all...

2. Reach platinum on TSPDT by March (69 to go)
3. From April, each month watch at least 25 films in a single challenge

If you're gonna break that record, why not make it official and contact Guiness?

I'm going to continue to work on a lot of my 2019 goals in 2020, and only add a few new ones.

3330 feature-length films - 370 to go
2330 short-length films - 220 to go
5500 checks - 455 to go
3000 official checks - 256 to go
<20 unseen films on ≥20 official lists - 35 to go
≥10 films from at least ≥50 countries - 14 countries to go
≥5 films from at least ≥75 countries - 21 countries to go
Be ranked below 10,000 on all official lists - 6 to go (icm Most Checked, FilmTotaal, Tim Dirks, TSZDT, imdb mini-series, The Deuce)
Get median ranked list to be under 1500 - current median pair is at 1838 & 1851, with 17 more lists between rank 1500 and 1838.

Finish outstanding goals from 2015 (7 goals) & 2016 (7 goals)
Finish all four old watchlists (2013-2016) - 31 to go
Finish country-based old watchlists (2017-2018) - 55 to go
Watch at least 15 films that are at least 2½ hours long, including 5 films at least 3 hours long and at least 5 mini-series.
Finish outstanding Tin Award goals and Notable Director goals.

I may add one or two more goals in the first quarter. I'm considering focusing on a handful of lists for this year, but not sure if I want to set specific targets for those.

My main goal SHOULD be to spend LESS time watching films (and TV, and the news, and...) but we'll see how that turns out.

As far as Official Lists go, I don't have the particular goal of finishing any besides the BFI westerns, which I've only got a few left to go on. I will probably focus at least occasionally on the Rosenbaum and TSPDT (main) lists, and I guess come to think of it I may try to go for gold on the larger Noir list, though I'm over 100 films away on that. Oh and I may just make a go at completing the IMDB Top 250, at least for a moment - only 15 away from that at this minute, and I can watch 10 modern Bollywood films as easily as another Ron Howard film I think.

There are some Unofficial Lists that I follow, like the list of films mentioned in Los Angeles Plays Itself and the Entertainment Weekly 100 Best Films You've Never Heard Of; I have about 100 films to go between the two but I'm not rushing, these are lists to savor.

And there are some Director Filmographies that I might just finish off this year, some are not ones that I'm enthused about but with only a couple of films left, why not? PT Anderson, the Coens, Dreyer, Hitchcock, Ozu, Spielberg and Varda are the first names that come to mind.

Finally, I'd like to get out of the ghetto of 1000+ rankings or perhaps even 500+ rankings on any of the country or national film award lists. I'm going to start out just going for 5 films seen on all the lists where I'm lacking even that pathetic number - Amanda, CineChile, Dutch Film 50, Film Critic's Best Romanian, Golden Lotus, Goya, Publico's Best Portuguese, Yie News Best Finnish. Probably pretty easy, and only a dozen films total. That'll still leave me out of the top 1000 on some of them but I'll cross those bridges when I come to them.

The 2019 Goals thread helped me stay on track for my goals for the most part. Hopefully 2020 will be the same. Here are my goals for 2020:

1. Complete my project of watching a film from each year from 1919-2020 (currently on 1960, 60 films to go)
2. Bronze on TSPDT (53 films to go)
3. Rank in top 8,000 on every list (9 more lists to go)

Well, I wasn't going to have any film goals but I've changed my mind already. When I got depressed in 2016, I lost my love for films (and everything else), and particularly my interest in exploring them. So the last few years I've mostly just been watching what I feel like and what I'm interested in and it's been a pretty mediocre few years. Over the last couple of months my interest in film has (finally) been reignited, and I've spent the last couple of weeks dabbling in the 'upcoming awards' feature of iCM Enhanced which has been really fun so far. So...

- gain some awards
- finish IMDb lists except for doc, mini-series and sport (for now)
- Get in the top 500 for all lists with less than 10 films needed to get there
- Focus on one country, research country + film output, reach 10k goal for said country and pick a new one (currently working on Finland, need to watch 17 more)

Inspired by my chronological album listening, I'm also considering doing one decade per month next year (with October being a free-for-all).

1. Top 150 (#210 -> #203)
2. Make progress on the They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? (all editions) list (253 left -> 249 left)
3. Finish the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list (77 left -> 76 left)

My goals for 2020:

1. Platinum on They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? -215 to go
2. Bronze on Yle News’ Best Finnish Films of All Time - 19 to go
3. All films on 9 or more official lists - 32 to go
My goals for 2020:
1. Platinum on They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? (195 to go) - Good progress. Top 300 cleared, and watched some films that I really enjoyed like "Spring in a small town", "Floating clouds" and "Simon of the desert" (finally!). Liked e.g. "Assault on precinct 13" and "Carnival of Souls" a lot, too.
2. Bronze on Yle News’ Best Finnish Films of All Time (17 to go) - Very little progress. Was really pleasantly surprised by the silent short "Kun isällä on hammassärky" [When father has tooth ache] by Erkki Karu (1922). I think that it's a genuinely great silent comedy without any home country bias on my part. My home country bias might actually work the other way around, since for some reason I haven't often really enjoyed Finnish films. Now I'm giving them a second (or tenth) chance, though.
3. All movies on a list with 50 films from 50 countries, chosen by my friend and myself to watch and discuss during the year in pubs (49 to go) - Changed my earlier goal for this, since my friend and I agreed on a joint list to check during the year again. Really happy about the list! First stop "Tropical malady" from Thailand which I enjoyed alot.

I've been thinking about this, and I want to do something different in 2020. I have have been OK at breadth, watching a bunch of different films, but rarely do I do much with depth on a specific list. So, I'm going to challenge myself to pick a list each month corresponding to one of the challenges and see how far I can get. Here are the steps I'm going to follow:

1. Pick a list that works for one of the official challenges with at least 25 unwatched films.
2. Focus on that list
3. Track progress:
a) 5 = bronze
b) 10 = silver
c) 15 = gold
d) 20 = platinum
e) 25 = diamond
4. Base goal is gold each month, stretch goal is diamond.

January will be the BFI 100 Science Fiction Films list.
Nothing like starting off the year with a failure...

January: BFI 100 Science Fiction Films list. Progress: 12. Level: Silver.

1. Watch all available movies on at least 03 lists (23 to go) (The update on Times 1000 killed me on this. Now I have 26 films left)
2. Platinum on Halliwell (42 movies to go) (watched 4, 38 to go)
3. Platinum on Indiewire's The 100 All-Time Greatest Films Directed by Women (11 movies to go) (watched 1, 10 to go)
4. Platinum on TSPDT 1000 Noir Films (19 flicks to go) (9 flicks checked, 10 to go)
5. Platinum on The Criterion Collection (67 films to go) (13 (mostly Godzilla) films checked, 54 more to go)
6. Platinum on iCM Forum's 500<400 (102 films to go in the 2019 edition) (watched 41, still need 61)
7. Platinum on 366 Weird Movies (Certified Weird) (2 weird flicks to go) Done!
8. Platinum on 101 Gangster Movies You Must See Before You Die (5 to go) Done!
9. Platinum on Masters of Cinema (3 to go)
10. Regain all platinums that may get lost because of updates (currently gathered 110 platinums) (lost some but gained some as well, 111 platinums now)

All right, the first monthly update is pretty much as expected, with a sharp uptick in the number of films I'll need to meet the goal due to end-of-year updates (e.g. TSPPDT) and Oscar season shaking up the IMDb and RT lists. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:

The push for Top 200 on every official listShow
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 11-->8
Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation: 6-->0
BBC's 100 greatest films of the 21st Century: 0-->1
Best of Rotten Tomatoes: 0-->5
Cahiers du cinéma 100: 1-->1
CineChile's 50 Best Chilean movies of all time: 1-->0
Harvard University's Suggested Film Viewing List: Narrative Films: 1-->0
IMDB's 1910s Top 50: 1-->1
IMDB's 1950s Top 50: 1-->1
IMDB's 1970s Top 50: 1-->1
IMDB's 2010s Top 50: 1-->1
IMDB's Animation Top 50: 0-->0
IMDB's Biography Top 50: 0-->1
IMDB's Drama Top 50: 0-->1
IMDB's Shorts Top 50: 0-->0
IMDb's Top 250: 0-->1
Livejournal Russian top 100: 1-->0
Sight and Sound 2012 - Combined List: 17-->17
Taschen's 100 All-time favorite movies: 1-->1
The 100 Best Films of World Cinema: 0-->1
The 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies: 2-->2
The 100 Most Significant German Films: 3-->0
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?: 17-->18
Top 100 Bollywood Films: 1-->1
Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films: 1-->1

And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 200 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 66
Target pace to meet goal: 5.5 checks/month
Checks left last month: 66
Checks left currently: 64
Checks left at this point in 2019/2018/2017/2016/2015: 58/67/92/84/64
Current pace: 2.0 checks/month
Top 200 goals completed this month: Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation, CineChile's 50 Best Chilean movies of all time, Harvard University's Suggested Film Viewing List: Narrative Films, IMDb's Animation Top 50, IMDb's Shorts Top 50, Livejournal Russian top 100, and The 100 Most Significant German Films
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: BBC's 100 greatest films of the 21st Century, Best of Rotten Tomatoes, Harvard University's Suggested Film Viewing List: Narrative Films, IMDb's 2010s Top 50, IMDb's Animation Top 50, IMDb's Biography Top 50, IMDb's Drama Top 50, IMDb's Shorts Top 50, IMDb's Top 250, and The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema
Worst ranking this month: Best of Rotten Tomatoes (#405)
Best goal-related ranks: IMDb's Shorts Top 50 (#1), CineChile's 50 Best Chilean movies of all time (#179)
Median ranking on all lists: #77 (The Criterion Collection & TimeOut's 100 Best Romantic Movies) and #78 (All Time Box Office)
Overall Ranking: 18-->14

I'd be in a lot worse shape without those Annecy checks, but it's par for the course for this time of year. I'll knock off the Bollywood list and trim a little more off 1001 Movies to See, and then set to work on those Oscar darlings in February if there's time (I'll be crushed by work in February and March, so this might be wishful thinking). My overall ranking had a shocking improvement in January, moving up four places, the biggest one month gain I've had since April of 2014 when I was checking shorts. This won't last very long.

I had this goal last year as well and then I had 144 unchecked, so at this pace I might reach it in 2020.
66 unchecked

I have 2 main objectives :
1) Finish the available 3+ List : In good way, 44 to go.
2) Gain an award in every collection... still 587 films away and 26 Collections... Could be do-able but i start to saturate with my 3 films/day Routine estecialy with foreign cinema that need all my attention ...

I hate making tables on here, so I'm just gonna screenshot my spreadsheet. Though I'm not aiming for any specific numbers, I am tracking my 'Top 500' and Awards progress:

Image

Most of the platinum's were IMDb lists, plus the AFI Thrillers list which was at 98/100 for too damn long.

Have also watched 1/17 films towards my Finland goal.

And have 1 new favourite first time viewing, a new favourite of a rewatch, and quite a few other solid films, so I'm pretty happy with this year's viewings so far. This is why I like to follow lists, when I watch stuff for myself I hate everything lol.

Since I didn't reach my goals from 2019, I'll try and pursue them in 2020.

1 - Reach gold on the They shoot zombies, don't they ? list (158 films to watch)

2 - get bronze on the <400 list : 80 movies to check.

3 - Get 6 more bronze medals (1910, Sundance Film Festival - Grand Jury Prize, Goya Awards, Belgian Film Awards, Silent but not forgotten, Spaghetti western)

4 - Finish iCM Forum's Favourite French Films list : https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/icm+ ... htysparks/ (21 films to watch)
1 - 156 films to watch. Only 2 checks this month...

2 - 77 films to watch. Only 3 checks, in spite of the challenge. I didn't do well here...

3 - Get 6 5 more bronze medals (1910, Sundance Film Festival - Grand Jury Prize, Goya Awards, Belgian Film Awards, Silent but not forgotten, Spaghetti western)

4 - Still 21 films to watch.

So I didn't do too well last month, we'll see if I can do better.

And I just got a hard-won "Award": Silver on the Criterion Collection list! I've had my eye on that threshold for awhile.

Almost everything I watch are simply things that pop up on the three streaming-subscription I got: MUBI, Prime, Disney+. Since MUBI has a watching deadline, I keep giving stuff there priority. So I rarely watch movies anymore that I collected on my laptop. I doubt I'll reach this goal this year, but it doesn't matter. My subscriptions give me a lot of variety in what I watch, so I'm having fun with those.

It was an absolutely brutal month at work, but I still managed to claw out some gains somehow. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:

The push for Top 200 on every official listShow
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 11-->8-->7
Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation: 6-->0-->0
BBC's 100 greatest films of the 21st Century: 0-->1-->1
Best of Rotten Tomatoes: 0-->5-->2
Cahiers du cinéma 100: 1-->1-->1
CineChile's 50 Best Chilean movies of all time: 1-->0-->0
Harvard University's Suggested Film Viewing List: Narrative Films: 1-->0-->0
IMDb's 1910s Top 50: 1-->1-->1
IMDb's 1920s Top 50: 0-->0-->1
IMDb's 1950s Top 50: 1-->1-->1
IMDb's 1970s Top 50: 1-->1-->1
IMDb's 2010s Top 50: 0-->2-->1
IMDb's Animation Top 50: 0-->0-->1
IMDb's Biography Top 50: 0-->1-->0
IMDb's Drama Top 50: 0-->1-->1
IMDb's Shorts Top 50: 0-->0-->0
IMDb's Top 250: 0-->1-->0
Livejournal Russian top 100: 1-->0-->0
Sight and Sound 2012 - Combined List: 17-->17-->16
Taschen's 100 All-time favorite movies: 1-->1-->1
The 100 Best Films of World Cinema: 0-->1-->1
The 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies: 2-->2-->2
The 100 Most Significant German Films: 3-->0-->0
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?: 17-->18-->19
Top 100 Bollywood Films: 1-->1-->0
Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films: 1-->1-->1

And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 200 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 66
Target pace to meet goal: 5.5 checks/month
Checks left last month: 64
Checks left currently: 58
Checks left at this point in 2019/2018/2017/2016/2015: 55/72/84/80/58
Current pace: 4.0 checks/month
Top 200 goals completed this month: IMDb's 1920s Top 50, IMDb's Animation Top 50, IMDb's Biography Top 50, IMDb's Shorts Top 50, IMDb's Top 250, and Top 100 Bollywood Films
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: IMDb's 1920s Top 50, IMDb's Animation Top 50, and IMDb's Shorts Top 50
Worst ranking this month: Best of Rotten Tomatoes (#285)
Best goal-related ranks: IMDb's Shorts Top 50 (#1), IMDb's Biography Top 50 (#146)
Median ranking on all lists: #78 (The Criterion Collection & National Film Archive of India 125 Great Indian Films) and #80 (Spike Lee's Essential Film List)
Overall Ranking: 18-->14-->15

Keeping afloat right now thanks to seeing a few big ticket items on multiple lists. Next month will likely be more of the same. Fell one place in the rankings due to Galyeon, and no doubt will fall another position or two next month with blueboybob's rise.

My goals for 2020 (situation in the beginning of February):
1. Platinum on They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? (195 to go)
2. Bronze on Yle News’ Best Finnish Films of All Time (17 to go)
3. All movies on a list with 50 films from 50 countries, chosen by my friend and myself to watch and discuss during the year in pubs (49 to go)
My goals for 2020:
1. Platinum on They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? (173 to go) - Nice progress, right on schedule. I have the top 400 cleared now, except for the 15,5-hour behemoth Berlin Alexanderplatz (#331) - yikes - that still has to wait for a better occasion. Gained some fantastic cinematic experiences with, for example, Teorema (1968), Zhantai (2000) and Bu san (2003) which were all instant favourites.
2. Bronze on Yle News’ Best Finnish Films of All Time (17 to go) - No progress. No inspiration whatsoever yet, I'm afraid.
3. All movies on a list with 50 films from 50 countries, chosen by my friend and myself to watch and discuss during the year in pubs (44 to go) - Some progress, and interesting films! First pub analysis approaching. :cheers:

1. Watch all available movies on at least 03 lists (23 to go) (Down to 19 on the new list)
2. Platinum on Halliwell (42 movies to go) (watched 3 this month, 35 to go)
3. Platinum on Indiewire's The 100 All-Time Greatest Films Directed by Women (11 movies to go) (watched 7 last month, will watch the final 3 for this months challenge)
4. Platinum on TSPDT 1000 Noir Films (19 flicks to go) (watched one more in February, 9 left, probably will get them all because of the crime challenge)
5. Platinum on The Criterion Collection (67 films to go) (nothing else checked, still 54 more to go)
6. Platinum on iCM Forum's 500<400 (102 films to go in the 2019 edition) (1 more check, still 60 to go)
7. Platinum on 366 Weird Movies (Certified Weird) (2 weird flicks to go) Done!
8. Platinum on 101 Gangster Movies You Must See Before You Die (5 to go) Done!
9. Platinum on Masters of Cinema Done!
10. Regain all platinums that may get lost because of updates (currently gathered 110 platinums) (lost 2 yesterday (TimeOut Romance & Spaghetti Western) but gained even more so up to 114 platinum awards now)

Two months, two failures. At least I got to the bronze threshold.

January: BFI 100 Science Fiction Films list. Progress: 12. Level: Silver.
February: Guide to African Cinema. Progress: 5. Level: Bronze
March: Indiewire's Directed by Women

1. Watch at least half of my watchlist (currently at 318, so 159 to go)
2. Get ranked on every list again (1 left)
3. Get bronze on 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (86 to go)

These seem like reasonable goals for me this year.

1. Platinum on They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? - 153 to go: Top 500 cleared except massive Berlin Alexanderplatz (#331) and Out 1 (#451). Pretty well on schedule for the time being.
2. Bronze on Yle News’ Best Finnish Films of All Time - 17 to go: No progress in two months. But there's still time...
3. All movies on a list with 50 films from 50 countries, chosen by my friend an myself to watch and discuss during the year in pubs - 39 to go: Decent progress in terms of checked movies, but not at all in terms of pubs. :( Film analysis and beer drinking in front of webcam ahead now. Well, could be much worse, of course.
+ Watch new unseen movies on 10+ official lists - 15 to go: New list adoptions brought much new stuff to watch on 10+ official lists for me, so I'll start this personal bonus challenge until the end of the year. Some overlap with TSPDT list, though, so not astonishingly many new films to watch.

Turning out to be a different year than i anticipated. I went off the trail of watching highly appraised films and/or joining challenges and am now just watching whatever is appealing to me and freeleech on PTP. I'll still try to hit challenge 1-3 but challenge 4 is probably not going to happen this year.
