Top 100 Turkish Films, voted by 100 directors, actors, produces, and film writers. It looks like this poll was done in 2017.
List: https://www.hurriyet.com.tr/kelebek/key ... i-40406722
Ballots: https://www.hurriyet.com.tr/kelebek/key ... i-40406840

I also found this book about Notos Turkish list, but I'm not sure if the ballots are in the book: https://books.google.com/books?id=sS1xDwAAQBAJ

Nice find mjf. Will you add it to icm yourself?

For the Notos, based on the preview, it lists all 383 participants, but I can't tell if it later includes their ballots, as those pages are hidden from the preview. It says there were 287 films nominated, so I also wonder if they list them as well, or just focus on presentations for the top 40.

It's very similar to the ekolay and Notos lists, but longer. It includes 41 of 53 films from ekolay, and 37 of 40 films from Notos.

Reddit.com/r/movies just voted for their top 100 films of the decade. The results are not surprising but here’s the list:

Haven't seen any of the films listed in any of the lists. Of those sources, only the Buzz Nigeria list looks interesting to me. Since some of the films are up on YouTube, maybe I'll give a couple a go.

Agreed, definitely interesting. Based on their viewpoint of the exercise, I'm surprised by a few omissions, such as The Hurt Locker instead of Zero Dark Thirty (I think the former "put a change of viewpoint on the table" more than the latter, though perhaps because ZDT has a female lead it changed things more in their opinion) and nothing by Wertmüller or Mair (especially Fire, given how much controversy that filmed caused).

Looks like the list is in chronological order, in which case #67 An Angel at My Table is in the wrong place.

They're in French release date chronological order. Looks like An Angel at My Table never came out in French theaters, so they went with the DvD release date (2003).

Sois-belle et tais-toi is also listed as a 1981 film on IMDb and ICM, but they have it as a 1976 movie. It is the Delphine Seyrig documentary though.

There is a film by Wertmüller at #20, it's just not one of the usual ones.

Very interesting and varied list, which makes a good complement to the BBC and IndieWire lists.
I'm especially glad to see My 20th Century listed, very gorgeous b/w photography.

Whoops, don't know how I missed Mimi.

Based on the description from the source, it seem more like a collective curation by the editorial staff than a poll with individual ballots.

Yep. Each film has a paragraph or two written by one of the journalists (or filmmakers) involved, so one can assume that gives you who championed what, but that's it. Two of the people involved (Mia Hansen-Love and Justine Triet) have a film of theirs on the list.

I can make a RYM list. I will do it this weekend.
But mind that this is a list completely compiled by cinephiles. None of the voters are critics. Still it is an interesting list.

I updated this list: iCheckMovies Most Divisive (movies with a lot of favorites AND a lot of dislikes)
(I renamed it; it used to be "iCheckMovies Movies Most Likely to Cause a Flame War")

I'm using a new formula which seems to work well:
((favorites*dislikes)/(favorites+dislikes))^1.25 / (checks+50)

Some movies from the last few years might be missing, if they're missing the movie tag on iCM.

I may not have enough background in statistics. Can you explain the mathematical rationale behind that?

I want both favorites and dislikes to be high, so I start with the harmonic mean, which is always closer to the smaller of the two numbers. For example, H(5, 45) = 9, which is much closer to 5 than to 45.
2*(favorites*dislikes)/(favorites+dislikes)

I remove the 2 because it's a constant and it won't affect the list.

I want that number to be high relative to the number of checks, so I divide by checks.

The ^1.25 and the +50 make it harder for obscure films to enter the list, and easier for well-known films. I feel like well-known films fit the definition of "divisive" better, because people are more likely to argue about them.

Is there a way for users to contribute to these tags? It seems like a lot of recent films are missing this info which makes filtering and searching more difficult than it needs to be.

@beasterne: The types for new movies are in the database. The beta site seems to filter them correctly, but filtering on the beta site is very slow. I posted about it on the mod forum, but I don't know if/when it'll be fixed.

@zhangalan: Thanks. It looks like a good list.

Does anyone know if Kinema Junpo is going to publish a new "Best Japanese Films of All Time" list? They published one in 1999 and 2009, so I was expecting a new one in 2019. Or have they already published it?

I find both lists on the Net, as well as another 80s list from 1990.
Kinema Junpo also published a 90s list last year, but I can't see the result online.

I found some Nollywood lists:
https://www.okayafrica.com/20-best-noll ... nollywood/
https://buzznigeria.com/best-nigerian-movies/
https://austinemedia.com/top-20-unforge ... od-movies/
https://www.legit.ng/1178300-best-nolly ... -time.html
https://www.newsweek.com/nollywood-10-films-see-413182
https://briefly.co.za/21785-10-nollywoo ... -time.html
https://afrikanza.com/must-watch-nollywood-movies/

I compiled the lists in a spreadsheet. Here are the films that show up on more than 1 list:
Osuofia In London: 6
Aki na Ukwa: 5
Domitilla: 4
Glamour Girls: 4
Igodo: 4
Living in Bondage: 3
Nneka the Pretty Serpent: 3
Scores To Settle: 3
Most Wanted: 2
The Wedding Party: 2

Has anyone seen any of these films?
no - have only seen three NG films to date - will have to see if any of those are available to me

edit: only thing I could find on the 'white' market is The Wedding Party - it's on Netflix US. Not even sure which "Most Wanted" and didn't try to find it on the lists and then figure it out on IMDb. The rest of the films listed were no luck but I'm sure they are available somewhere.

This is awesome! Great find frbrown. I can add all of these individual lists to icm, and I can create a compilation list as well.
I was just browsing old posts in this thread, and I'm wondering if you created the compilation? I'm more interested in the compilation than the individual lists.

Thai Cinema: The Complete Guide (2018 book)
https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Cinema-Comp ... 1788311418

"It includes reviews of 129 films, organised by genre, effectively establishing a Thai cinema canon."
http://blog.matthewhunt.com/2018/05/tha ... guide.html

Would anyone be able to borrow it from a library and post the list?
The full list is available in the Amazon preview, in the table of contents. Does anyone want to add it to iCM?

Would be a nice list, it seems a bit longish because the book touches on the many sides of Thai cinema, but within each section the number of titles is actually often unsatisfactory... on the whole I think it seems a very good selection that introduces the complete spectrum of Thai cinema.

btw I won't have time to add it at this moment... hopefully somebody else can pick up on this

10 Best African Films of All Time

The 15th annual Tarifa-Tangiers African Film Festival (FCAT) and magazine Fotogramas have added to its repertoire by commissioning a group of 10 well-respected critics and authorities on film to vote on, what they believe, are the best African films in the history of cinema. The organization calls the list "the first classification based on expert opinions of a cinematography which has gradually gained a foothold in Spain in recent years."

The film critics who created the list come from a number of backgrounds and countries and include journalists, directors, professors and more.

Ballots are available. Only 10 jurors, though. :(
I counted up the votes from this poll. 26 films got more than 1 vote. I think I got rid of most of the duplicates, but I didn't add the list to IMDb, so I might have missed a duplicate.

80 Movies Your Kids Must See Before They’re 10
It looks like they updated this list. Now it's a 100 movies, and they changed it from 10 to 12.

Paste's superhero list has also been updated (the iCM list is from 2017, and the latest update is from 2019).
