the second World Cup 4 poll

#1

Post by beavis »

Instead of posting answers to the next question in the previous poll thread
I went ahead and made a new poll

slightly shorter runtime, and I again didn't allow for vote changes. So consider for a bit before chosing your preferred option

I went for the least amount of movies total. I do not mind groups of 3 much, but agree that groups of 4 can seem daunting for those who participate in many other games or have little time free for (more) movies (so option 5 felt like a lesser option... also it seems a bit unfair to have a group of 4 movies and allow only one to advance).

option 2 for me

Agreed on only 1 out of 4 movies advancing... that's super not fair.

I liked how season 3 was structured, but if it's going to be changed, only options 1 and 3 seem relatively fair to me, but that also hinges on how the seeding would happen, and if the countries would be reseeded after each round or not. Also, depends on how many countries we select, so I'll hold off on voting just yet.

I went with 36 since that's 4 more managers, too... And progressing to the next stage isn't that hard like in other cases.

Also in one-on-one matches there is lack of excitement like a three-way round (where anything can happen).

I went with option 2 because I'd like it to be finished in the span of a year and it's better than option 5. 1 advance from a group of 4 is too harsh.

small bump for the final week of this poll

27 votes at the moment... we should have a few more interested people out there who might have missed this poll so far.

I think we should conduct new polls with only two options possible (those which gained most votes so far). And of course add a few new ideas/polls as well.

Coz those who voted for 'same as before' option otherwise lean towards first or the other one, I guess.

Option 2 for me.

Head-to-head isn't all that appealing all the way through and 1 out of 4 to advance seems unfair.
That's all, folks!

option 1 and 2 are getting closer!
had expected it to skew a bit harder towards option 1, but then, there are a few good arguments posted in this thread on why 2 might be even better... :)

I'm not sure about further polls. If you have some strong ideas about it, you could just run with it Mario. For me, I think I'll leave it up to Joachim from here on further

My biggest issue with 1vs1 is predictability; from the start you smell the outcome in 90% cases. And what's with the country that already faces Japan in Round 1? It doesn't even stand chance for a single victory.

In the end, I voted for option 3. I don't mind there being more countries.

I'd still like to hear proposals on how the seeding would go, though.

I'm not voting. 1, 2 and 3 are all fine with me. If Mario wants to run a last poll, that's okay for me. Otherwise the majority decides here.

It seems the consensus is that people want a shorter cup, but the consensus for option 1 isn't very clear. Groups are often more exciting, but on the other hand the groups in option 2 don't leave much chance for smaller countries. So I feel like going for option 1.

Why don't we run a definite poll between these two options?

What about a slightly different option similar to 1 & 2?

32 countries, 8 groups of 4 (2 advancing), then 4 groups of 4 (2 advancing), then QF, SF, and F (62 movies)

It's the same number of countries and films as the first option, but adds in a little of the excitement and opportunity for an upset of the second option.

I'm loving this, 2 advancing from each group seems exciting.

Good idea, Fergy. Same amount of movies. We could use the same pace for both options. But this way, we'll get the excitement of a group.

Mario, what's your take on this? Maybe we could go with this without a last poll.

I don't like this option, I voted for option 1 cause I like 1on1 matches more than group matches, which is I presume the reason why many people voted for option 1. With this option there is even more stages in the Cup with groups. Solving the problem that many want to get rid of the group stage by introducing more group stages is counterproductive.

I'm with Mario to do a final poll between those two winning options.

What about eight groups of four. Two advancing then heads up. Then you get a group stage and a lot of heads up matches. A mix of of the two most popular options.

Maybe it’s just me, but a tournament without group stages sounds boring. And a tournament with multiple group stages sounds a bit too much.

Hardly anybody thinks it's fair to have 1 advancing from a group of 4.
Lonewolf wrote:Solving the problem that many want to get rid of the group stage by introducing more group stages is counterproductive.
But option 2 has two group phases and it got a lot of votes as well, so it's not clear to go all the way to head-to-head.

Let's have a final vote (because we all love polls......). Let's choose from these three:
Option 1: 32 countries, head-to-head all the way (62 movies)
Option 2: 32 countries, round 1 groups of 4 with 2 advancing, rest head-to-head (62 movies)
Option 3: 36 countries, 12 groups of 3 (1 advancing), then 4 groups of 3 (1 advancing), then SF and F (54 movies)

Sure it's unclear. That's why it's good to another poll to see if people want to go head-to-head because they don't want group phases or that people want a faster/shorter WC.

I dislike groups of 4 because you have to watch 4 movies before you can vote. Doesn't matter to me if 1 or 2 movies advance to the next round.

Personally I fail to see why a group stage would be more exciting than head-to-head.
