This is pretty much my thought process. Terminal was fine enough and an interesting story, but can't hold a candle to Clockwork. I really liked both Her and Virgin, but when I saw Virgin Suicides in the theater (LONG before I ever got into film) it blew my mind as to what was possible with film; even reflecting on it, it holds up. I hated Tiffany's; Jesse James made it an easy pick. Melancholia is good overall and a fantastic look into depression; Ferris just struck me as a guy who needed to be punched in the face.

Haven't seen Tiffany's, it would have to be pretty impressive to beat Jesse James though, that is an excellent film.

I like The Terminal, but Clockwork is a masterpiece. I haven't seen The Virgin Suicides, and I probably won't be in the mood to watch it today but I'd probably vote for Her. Tiffany's sucks and Jesse James was pretty awesome. I really disliked Melancholia though I think I'd like it more now, but gotta go with meh Ferris for now.

9 Her (2013) - The Virgin Suicides (1999) 7

(1.0* - 1.0*) Ehhhh …. blah Spielberg vs blah Kubrick. Let's pick Spielberg, at least his films are more honest.
(2.0* - 2.5*) Uninspired sci-fi vision vs mediocre drama
(2.5* - 3.0*) Amusingly irritating characters vs an actual decent western.
(3.5* - 1.5*) Good von Trier vs annoying 80s USA nonsense.

2 The Terminal (2004) - A Clockwork Orange (1971) 16
13 Her (2013) - The Virgin Suicides (1999) 7
5 Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) 12
13 Melancholia (2011) - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) 6

Easiest pick: Her over Virgin Suicides. Not only does Her boast one of the greatest movie quotes of all time (no, not the dead cat line), it's also up against a motion picture that I find tepid at best.

Hardest pick: Melancholia over Ferris Bueller's. By default. Still a fairly easy pick, but I had to think twice about it, which wasn't the case with The Terminal and ACO.

Not seen: Jesse James - though it would have to be pretty bad for me to preference Breakfast at Tiffany's above it.
