ICM Forum's 500<400 2019 Nominations Due Sept 22

ICM Forum's 500<400

Create an IMDb list or iCM list of your favorite films with fewer than 400 checks, and post it in this thread by the end of September 22.

You can submit a list in one of three ways:
1. Imdb list
2. ICM list
3. List of imdb urls if you can't make an imdb list.
Make sure your (imdb/icm) list is public!

If you can post the list as (username URL) I would appreciate it.

View your least-checked checks
View your least-checked favorites

Rules:
- Films released in 2018 or 2019 are not allowed.
- Shorts, Documentaries and mini-series* are allowed. TV shows are not allowed.
* Mini-series must be 14 episodes or less, not multiple seasons, and not planned to be longer but canceled. The series should be intended as a single unified work and not episodic.
+Stand alone episodes of anthology type series are allowed if both the episode and series are under 400 checks.
- Your list may be ranked, unranked, partially-ranked, or group ranked. In a partially-ranked list, the top X films are ranked and everything after that point is unranked. In a group ranked lists all groups get the average of what the films in that group would get if fully ranked.
- Films that reach 400 checks by the deadline will be removed (so you don't have to do it yourself, but if you do it's appreciated).
- You must post your own list in this thread (but you can ask someone to create an IMDb/ICM list for you, if you want).

You can submit a list in one of three ways:
1. Imdb list
2. ICM list
3. List of imdb urls if you can't make an imdb list.
Make sure your (imdb/icm) list is public!

Scoring for ranked lists: Half-life = 50
#1: 100 points
#51: 50 points
#101: 25 points
#N: 100 / 2 ^ ((N-1) / 50) points

Scoring for unranked and partially-ranked lists:
Every unranked film on your list receives the same number of points (the average of what they would have received if your list was ranked).

Some links to help you make your list:
Eligible titles that you've rated on IMDb (sorted by your rating)
Eligible titles from some IMDb list (replace lsXXXXXXXXX with any list ID #) (sorted by your rating)
Linky or Multi-links (Firefox), Linkclump (Chrome): Add-on that lets you copy many URLs at once. Useful for copying advanced search results (e.g. all films that you rated 9 or higher).

I've updated the imdb lists, so they should be up to date as of a few minutes ago. I'll update them at least twice before the deadline.

My list:

Make sure your list is public!! Also if you can submit your list in the format above it'll save me time (l)

First 200 titles are ranked, then unranked. I still need to do some reshuffling.

My list:

Looking forward to the results. As always. :)

I think the "eligible films you've rated on IMDb" link should be this, since 2017 films are eligible, correct ?

Yup, I forgot to change that part of the link. I'll fix that now.

1-51 Ranked
52-182 Group 1
183-502 Group 2

I don't know if anyone else is like me, but I make this list by filtering my main Favorites list, so I'm planning on submitting mine at the last minute. I've set a calendar reminder for myself, but if anyone would like a complimentary "PM Reminder to submit your ballot" service, let me know. :P

I know we said it tons of times and you never respond anyway, but I’m saying it anyway again:
This list is ridiculous, because it contains more than half of your IMDb ratings. Please submit your Anti-Canon. That would be much more worthwhile.

PA, can you put this in the header as a separate line? Too much hassle for me on a mobile phone.

The OP says nothing about stand-alone episodes. Did you ditch them completely? We always allow them, but last year we decided (or at least discussed) about an additional rule that the main page of the complete series must be under 400 checks, not just the page of the episode.

The OP is the same as before. I think that's an OK rule. I can't filter them before the fact like films over 400 checks though.

I know. It has to be done manually afterwards, once you have the results ready.

A dozen or so from last year have been knocked out, and I have added 10 more so far in an effort to get back to a top 200:

Interestingly, I voted for 100 films last year and not a single one crossed the 400 checks threshold between then and now.

I try to keep a list of 300 candidates, but it won't work...
I'm taking out 12 films that reached more than 400 checks :
SpoilerShow
Chaharshanbe-soori
The Lineup
Day of the Outlaw
Coeur fidèle
Les salauds
Qing mei zhu ma
Male and Female
Happy-Go-Nutty
Taking Off
Woman on the Run
Mei ren yu
Oasiseu
They are replaced by the following :
SpoilerShow
Shan he gu ren
La vache et le prisonnier
Oscar
Next of Kin
Mune, le gardien de la lune
Rozmarné léto
Hanare goze Orin
Umi to dokuyaku
The Naked and the Dead
Nous les gosses
The Racket
Chiyari Fuji
But I also need to add 6 fantastic films from 2017 that didn't get enough attention. I'm sure some of them will get to 400 checks soon enough, but still, I feel like recommending them to this community of curious cinephiles :
- mon mon monster (by Giddens Ko) - A fantastic mix of HK New wave, and of genre revenge movie with a fantastic approach
- battleship island (by Ryoo Seung-wan) - Epic WW2 adventure unfolding on the magnificent historical site of Hashima
- cold skin (by Xavier Gens) - An exotic Jules Vernes fantastic adventure in an Island. I didn't expect such a fine film from Xavier Gens, to be honest...
- Kamera o tomeru na! (aka one cut of the dead, by Shin'ichirô Ueda) - A hilarious comedy about shooting a low-budget zombie film. This film had a lot of success in festivals, and will probably reach the 400 checks soon. Still, it's so funny, and done with such intelligence, that I recommend watching it.
- l'insulte (by Ziad Doueiri) - maybe the most simple way to explain how things stand in Lebanon. Nominated for an Academy Award, and it will soon count more than 400 checks
- Lerd (aka A Man of Integrity, by Mohammad Rasoulof) - A very intense film about corruption in Iran. Filmed with a lot of talent, by this long-time collaborator of Panahi, but this film finally got Rasoulof in jail. That enough should generate some interest in a film the Iranian authorities don't want people to watch

If people want more recommendation for the challenge, you should watch Liza, a rókatündér and Omocha !!!
Short film afficionados can still watch Next Floor. Given the popularity of Denis Villeneuve's movies, I'm very surprised this short film of his didn't reach 400 checks yet. It's also quite excellent.

9 films from 2017 have entered my new list! Happy about that
No overlap with you though. I could support one cut of the dead, but i'm sure that one will end up on many cult lists and soon steam across the 400 line
I disliked Lerd and mon mon monsters....

I could have included Vuelven and Kechiche's latest film, but it didn't occur to me it could have less than 400 checks. I'm not sure I will change my list, though, as I already have 6 too many titles...
At least, we agree on the last family.
