I saw The Warriors in college because one of my housemates told me he had heard it was Shaquille O'Neal's favorite movie. That was enough for my buddy. We watched it together and a week later dressed up as Warriors for Halloween. I remember that there was a talk about a decade ago of a remake set in Los Angeles. I'm glad it wasn't made.

:guns: I watched the Warriors today against the Raptors in Toronto, and they came away with a victory despite having to overcome many injuries during the course of battle.

Personally I saw it first time in 2005, after I had played through the Rockstar game

'The most famous line from the film, though, wasn’t in the script: it was improvised by David Patrick Kelly, who played Luther, the leader of the Rogues. To the clinking of soda bottles, Luther wails, “War-ree-yors, Come out to play-ay. War-ree-yors, come out to play-ay!” Fans of the Golden State Warriors often use the chant while waiting for their team to take the boards.'

I saw The Warriors on TV or VHS sometime in the late '80s/early '90s and enjoyed it, but Mr. burneyfan and I saw it in a midnight viewing at the Alamo Drafthouse (back when there was only one!) in Austin, Texas sometime around 1999-2001. The theater handed out little miniature glass Coke bottles, and when the clinking scene came around, the audience all had the bottles on their fingers and clinked along. :P

Ha! That's not too far from handing out raincoats, water pistols and rice for Rocky Horror Picture Show...

Anybody remember the ridiculous debate about this movie causing youth violence? The gangs are about as real as WWF characters - which adds, IMHO, to the vibe.
