I'm sure some of you always keep yearly statistics neatly logged in spreadsheets, well, I don't, I manually counted these from my ICM profile (double checking nationality via IMDb). In other words I'm sure I got something wrong, and it should be clear why I have never done this before.

Still, while it took a decent amount of time, it was really interesting to see the numbers.

Some stats really surprised me, like France outdoing the US (and Japan being so far behind France), the 70s clocking in with almost half the total of the 60s (the 70s are my most viewed decade overall - but perhaps that is catching up with me), and there only being 5 Hungarian films ... I also surprised myself by catching 6 Godard films that had slipped under my radar.

Now that is surprising, and impressive. To be honest I have bare seen 100 Norwegian films overall. Any discoveries? And any specific reason for the focus?

So, this got me interested, but I also don't keep a spreadsheet, and I'm not about to do it manually, so I wrote a script. I would like to test it with someone else's data, if anyone who logs films on both icm and imdb would be willing to provide me with both their spreadsheets exactly as they're exported?

2448 new checks in 2018, including probably <100 films that I had watched most of or all of in previous years

Edit: probably more like ~150 completed or forgotten watches added. Also over 200 checks were short films, for a total of probably just below 2100 new features.

Best film seen:
Ukifune (1957, Kinugasa) or
Diary of King Yeonsan (1988, Im)

Worst film seen:
Farmlands (2018, Southern) or
Dragonfly Eyes (2017, Xu)

Why does the title of this topic start with the ¶-symbol? I thought that was PdA's trademark (which I always found annoying btw).

It is a great eye-catcher, but I don't want to be a copy-cat (thought more people used it).

I love the idea of average rating. Did you calculate it manually from IMDb. Think that is a little too much work for me. :D

1930 - 411
1940 - 564
1950 - 564
That is incredibly impressive, for the 40s you almost saw as many films in 2018 as I have seen in total (features mind you, but don't watch too many shorts). How many films have you seen from these decades overall, and do you have any rare recommendations? Especially for the 40s I have started struggling to find films that interest me.

And congratulations on your baby!!!

No. I have an excel sheet with all my ratings and I let excel calculate the average for me. If you have all your ratings on IMDb, you can calculate your average by exporting your ratings (Although, you would have to remove all non-2018 rated film as an additional step, but you could do that within a minute by sorting the date created).

Brilliant, will try it.

Edit: Damn it, when I opened it everything was in the same tab ... I suppose I have the wrong excel.

The only stat I keep track of is total movies watched per year (I only count first-time views). 2018 was lackluster with only 170 movies, though it was much better than 2017's complete unacceptable 114. Here's my breakdown:

2018 - 170
2017 - 114
2016 - 212
2015 - 315
2014 - 248
2013 - 158
2012 - 184
2011 - 170
2010 - 223
2009 - 213
2008 - 240
