I have no hope of ever even attempting this goal, as I will never work on the All-Time Worldwide Box office list. Maybe if I've completed every other list on the site first - which is highly unlikely in my lifetime with my rate of movie watching. It does seem like there should be more complaints for All-Time, rather than Bollywood btw (when will the All-Time list ever be fixed with that "top ten per year?").

For those who have persevered and made it in the top 500 for the All-Time list - how were you able to stay sane through it? Or what strategies did you employ (I can't imagine sitting through all of the Minions / Chipmunks / etc sequels).
Most Checked requires platinum as well.

My plat goals for the year are Spaghetti Westerns (next month), Martial Arts (this summer), Cahiers, and the Russian lists (but I don't think that's possible w/o knowing Russian). and I hope to get my first plat with one of those before I accidentally plat one of the imdb lists.

I guess that's not surprising. Well, that's a goal I'll never achieve. Hmm, watch Stuart Little, Click, Ice Age (and sequels) and live-action Disney adaptations of their animations for an award? Jeez. That's worse than the IMDB top 250. Might vie with the Greatest Sequels list as the worst official list out there.

I only recently finished the Most Checked list. With my library updating their system, and not being able to have access to the program that allows me to get a lot of what I got, I went ahead and watched the handful of items I had left.

The sequel list is pretty much the same. I only have 5 left, and they are probably 5 of the better selections on it. There's some real odd decisions on what they include/exclude on that list...

No Bollywood hate from me, if you're referring to my Top 250 dis. I've only actually disliked one top 250-contending Indian film; but I'm not going to bother making an effort to see all the ones that pop on and off the list every couple of days (I'm looking at you PK) either, nor am I going to make an effort to see films from the likes of Ron Howard that persistently stick on the list. Maybe if I get down to just 4 or 5 unseen without trying, but right now I've got 15 to go and only a couple are films I'd actually see on my own.

Ah, OK. Well, I can understand the Bollywood hate generally I guess, there's certainly plenty of garbage there, but is it really any worse than the stuff in the multiplexes in the USA (and most of the world)? I guess it's longer and if you don't like musicals it's a problem, but I've yet to see an Indian film as stupid as most of the Fast and Furious films for example.

Anyway I'll have to remember to ask you for recs if I ever get in the mood to delve deeper into Delhi delirium.

Indian film isn't the same Bollywood and neither of those two lists is what people are talking about when they say Bollywood.

Hehehe, just noticed this thread. It seems ludicrous that I'm in the top 500 of the FESPACO list by seeing ONE FILM! The one film was Aujourd'hui by Alain Gomis, which I didn't even like.

I was quite chuffed to be in the top 500 for ICM 500<400 and Ain't Nobody's Blues But My Own on the other hand.

3 films to go to Platinum on Thriller, which will be my first. Lost a lot of momentum due to the weather, had a ticket to go see Sholay 3D in the cinema in Birmingham at exactly the point that red weather warnings went out all over the country due to snow. I'm sort of reconciled to having to see Sholay and Eskiya in horrible condition now to get Platinum, got a Blu-ray of Safety Last at least. I don't like making concessions like that but I guess every list has some pain to go through, and Thriller is probably the least painful.

I've seen 5 of the 53 Hungarian movies to get into the top 500. I noted that I really liked all 5, so I'm going to carry on with this list.

I think I'm back to actively working on this project. Only 9 lists, but TSZDT is still 74 away.... better than the 200 or so it used to be, though. 48 total films across the other 8 lists. 122 total.

I'm ranked #120, yet I'm only in the top 500 for 92 lists. It's clear that my checking pattern is a bit deviant, due to accumulating checks more through shorts and cult/foreign/experimental features rather than the Hollywood classics that appear on multiple lists. Whenever I "compare profiles" with someone else in my vicinity, the list-by-list comparison suggests they're slaughtering me. But I take back a lot of lost ground via certain lists like Amos Vogel, Brief Encounters, UNESCO, Criterion, NFR, 366 Weird and Anthology Film Archives.

It's been a year since this has been updated, and I was curious as to where I've improved on this, as it's been something I've for whatever reason been focusing on here of late. This is where I stood one year ago:

treadwaynathan 16(1) 17(10) 30(100) 112(500) 154(1000) 180(10000)

I didn't have any checks on Miniseries, although, the IMDb lists were broken at the time, and a couple I had seen popped back up when they were fixed. That accounted for the one that was over 10k. 5 lists have been adopted since then as well. I started out over 1000 on one of the lists, but, it's since been brought down below 500.

Anyhow, here's my standings for today:

1- 42 (All platinum)
10- 43
100- 55
250- 100
500- 157
1000- 172
(My lowest rank is at 2356-All time box-office)

So, I only have 14 more to get in the Top 1000 club! (Well, 13. I just checked my 8th mini-series, which will put me in the 900 range! I have a couple more checked out, just for good measure.)
It's been almost a year since my last update on this. I'm posting more or less to announce my milestone! (We are up to 190 lists; there were 186 when I posted this)

1: 51 (All platinum)
10: 52 (Oscar Best Picture Nominees; 5th missing the infamous 3)
100: 65
200: 108
250: 124
500: 173
750: 181
1000 190

I'm officially, as of today, in the 1000 club! On all lists!

I don't pay any attention to the box office or IMDb lists, or the most-checked, so I'm sure I'll stay over 1k on some of those (and over 10k on the most-checked) but I do have a vague goal of getting to top 500 on all the country lists. Won't take a lot of films for some of those lists either.

Anyway congrats on the achievement. Hope to make some headway on some of my goals next year - focusing on the challenges this year kind of kept me away from that.

Ok so let's start Monitoring my progress :

Top 1 - 17 (=)
Top 10 - 17 (=)
Top 100 - 26 (=)
Top 250 - 69 (=)
Top 500 - 131 (=)
Top 1000 - 170 (=)
+ 20 Lists above 1000 Including a 0 check one (Fespaco...)

I'll try to looks more Polish Martial Art Film to improve my ranks ,)

BTW is there an easy way to tell how many rank up on a list you would get watching a film ?
Amanda Award seems to be the most elusive from my point of view ... i'm rank 3300 with ... one film checked ,)
Maybe Fespaco is even more elitist ... haven't really tried to search for film on that list yet.

Amanda Award is slow at the beginning. You'll need to watch a handful to get under 1000, and then it gets easier. (There's a fairly strong Norweigan userbase on the site. Much like the Dutch representation.)

FESPACO is extremely easy to rank up. 1 probably gets you under 500, 2 definately would. This is actually fairly common with country and country specific awards lists (besides the Dutch list, and the aforementioned Amanda Award)

Easiest way to find how many points you'll jump by watching a film? On your progress page, click your user rank and it will take you directly to where you are ranked on that list. From there, it's just jumping ahead. When I do this, I'm usually looking with a goal in mind (How many do I need to see to reach x rank), and just go to the page that would have that rank on it. Otherwise, it's just trial and error, but, not too much, usually.

Tim, you can also download the ICM Enchanced script and toggle the settings. There, on your progress page, you can see how many checks you need to reach rank X on each list (default is set to rank 1000).

On your "Progress" page, click "Load Stats" (next to the Order by Rank/Name/Official Lists), and it will show how many films you need to reach the rank you indicated in your settings for all lists where you haven't met it.

It's probably less than that, taking multitasking into consideration. ;) Also, I noticed you're not much of a Shorts checker, so, this should be fairly easy for you, if you want to dedicate the time to it. ;) (3 of your lowest ranked lists are all shorts..)

The load stats thing doesn't seem to work for me :( Anyway, since I've been getting back into planning and competitions and numbers again, I decided to see which lists I still need to be in this super elite club:

32/190 to go!

SpoilerShow
#500-1000
The 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films
100 Westerns (BFI Screen Guide)
Academy Award Best Cinematography
AFI's 100 years...100 thrills
Lola Award - Best Film
AFI's 100 years...100 passions
National Board of Review - Best Film
AFI's 100 years...100 laughs
100 Animated Feature Films (BFI Screen Guides)
2010s
TSPDT 1000 Noir Films
Top 100 Bollywood Films
LoveHKFilm.com's The Best Hong Kong Films Ever
Golden Globe Best Picture Winners
Yle News' Best Finnish Films of All Time
TSPDT 100 Essential Noir Films
Best Of Rotten Tomatoes
Cinema Tropical - Top Ten Latin American Films of the Decade (2000-2009)
#1001+
50 Greatest Sequels
AFI's 100 years...100 cheers
Spaghetti Westerns
100 Classic Martial Arts Films
TV Mini-series
Dutch Film Top 50
All Time Box Office

Amanda Award - Best Film
iCheckMovies - Most Checked
Nederlands Film Festival - Gouden Kalf
Top 100 Animated Features of All Time
#5000+

Action! The Action Movie A-Z

I really wish I finished off those AFI lists years ago now. I only have 3 of the thrills left. Dreading the box office ones. And I'm at #500 for the Academy Award Best Pic nominees but I'm gonna let that one slide for now. Might make this a side quest for next year's film goals.

Top 1: 23
Top 50: 28
Top 100: 47
Top 250: 118
Top 500: 158
Top 1000: 176
