That was a dominant performance.

I'm feeling optimistic about our chances against Russia. I just can't see them beating us twice.

I didn't watch the game. I'm regretting it as I write this. It's truly an end of an era, it's time for Pau and Navarro to retire from Spain's national team.

Fingers crossed we get a Balkan Finals.

This result certainly makes me even more proud that we held up better than Spain! 20 points... oh boy.
Slovenia can be crowned champions already, cannot see neither Serbs nor the Russians stopping them.

Great performance by our team. Shved was single-handedly keeping the game close, but it wasn't enough.

Pretty unique year in Grand Slams it was.
Here are all of the unseeded winners who never won one before that I decided to put together though it's probably been done before somewhere.
Crazier still, only 3 of them are women, and the other one was won in Australia which is not such a stretch.

Mark Edmondson (1976, Aus, 21 YO, ranked 212th) - never won another singles Slam, but a bunch in doubles
Christine O'Neil (1978, Aus, 21 YO, ranked 111th) - highest ranking 80! also it should be said Aus Open was not that popular in those days
Mats Wilander (1982, Garros, 17 YO, ranked ~69th)
Boris Becker (1985, Wimbledon, 17 YO, ranked 20th) - which is unfair with the new system where 20th is seeded but OK. call this one an asterisk case
Gustavo Kuerten (1997, Garros, 20 YO, ranked 66th)
Goran Ivanisevic (2001, Wimbledon, 29 YO, ranked 125th) - however he's been world #2 in the 90s, never won another
Gaston Gaudio (2004, Garros, 25 YO, ranked 44th) - never won another
Jelena Ostapenko (2017, Garros, 19-20 YO, ranked 47th)
Sloane Stephens (2017, US, 24 YO, ranked 83rd)

realized Jelena came back from 4:6 0:3 and very nearly 0:4 down!

Congratulations to Slovenia, they were the better team tonight.

That being said, I can't not be mad at referees. They fucked us up badly in this one.

Yeah, good final, Slovenia endured even with leaders missing others stepped up and showed character. Oh, well, we only lost to 2 best teams who were in the final so really cannot complain even though I was hoping for a medal, it was achievable.. don't know when we can assemble a team as good as this year, with all the new FIBA rules and stuff..

Apparently you're not much into basketball, otherwise you'd know that such "quick points" come as a result of loser's trying to reduce the difference in the final minute by making rushed fouls & hoping that the winner will miss them & try ASAP to score as many three-point shots as possible. Chances are slim, but there aren't other options whatsoever.

But if you're more into the game than I thought, I guess your face was "duuuhhh... you don't say?" after my first sentence. :)

So many years with 'big' teams only, when Syria lost today that was enough already. For how long we'll have to watch always the same teams at the WC??? Japan, Saudi Arabia, Korea, USA...

At least Peru has a chance to qualify again after 32 years of absence.

I'm annoyed with the Astros. I was all set to go to a bar and enjoy a beer or two while I watched Game 7, but I checked the score before I got ready to leave, and it was 5-0 in the 2nd. So there went my plans and any sense of suspense.

But yes - that was impressive. And good for them.

My favorite part? SI predicted this 3 years ago.

Been following it, most if not all of the accusations I've read so far are various shades of ridiculous, including the "whistleblower" who's a rather colorful character. The committee may be convinced, but I am not.
Sounds like another big lie.

Well, this result was certainly to be expected considering the whole political background. OK, some Russians took drugs (what a big surprise, all the other "asthmatics" are clean), that's not the point, the point is that they did not and could not prove (indeed based on a single source, a trustworthy "whistleblower" who himself fed drugs to people...) that it was a state-run operation and now many innocent people who had nothing to do with any of it have to suffer the consequences. This is injustice of the highest order.

The most dumbfounding thing to me is that the whole world seems to be hellbent on Russian athletes like it's not a public secret that most pro athletes use PEDs.

I believe the point here is that they believe it was a state-run thing like in East Germany when STASI run it in the late 70s.. whether such programs don't exist in China (by the way somehow I don't hear about that German documentary about Chinese drug programs.. suspicious silence since that whistleblower spoke up.. perhaps this is being held off by now for future bargaining..) where people who pop up out of nowhere are winning gold medals one by one..

I'm really impressed though by the global Western elite's reach across all the spheres of influence.. the Russians are getting to feel the fire across the board.. that's what happens when you stand in their way. It's too bad that innocent people are getting caught up as collateral damage in this geopolitical standoff.

Kamil Stoch won all four events in the 2017/2018 Four Hills Tournament! He is the second person in the history of ski jumping who has pulled that off (the first was Sven Hannawald in 2001/2002).

Was watching that on Eurosport Germany, where Hannawald is the color commentator. Hannawald was as happy for Kamil I was.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
