Interesting fact:
Leones is eligible for the low ratings poll. Beavis is not playing safe here.

I checked on WhatIWatch how the ratings there are:

International Film Festival Rotterdam Basz 29-01-2013 6.5
International Film Festival Rotterdam beavis 01-02-2013 8.5
International Film Festival Rotterdam Erik Hagen 29-01-2013 8.0
On demand HansVA 07-11-2018 7.5
International Film Festival Rotterdam KoenR 01-02-2013 8.4
International Film Festival Rotterdam Kurz 29-01-2013 7.0
On demand Leatherhead 12-11-2016 7.0
International Film Festival Rotterdam Malick 01-02-2013 8.5
Internet McSavah 05-06-2020 8.5
Internationaal Film Festival Gent Nightwalker 11-10-2013 5.0
Internationaal Film Festival Gent Ramstijn 10-10-2013 5.5
Internationaal Film Festival Gent Savi 16-10-2013 7.5
On demand tbouwh 08-04-2020 7.4
International Film Festival Rotterdam The_Milagro 01-02-2013 8.4

As you can see most people saw it at the IFFR like me or in Gent later that year (I think all users on this site are either Dutch or Belgian anyway)... and I see a lot of 8's!! Very highly regarded movie in my book, don't believe Imdb!! ;)

Seen both in match A and none in match B. Looking forward to the semis. :)

(I also would’ve chosen an Eugene Green film this round if I was still in it. Not that one though! :whistling: )

the fun thing is that I know the majority of users who rated that film on Whatiwatch from some site or another one.

If i'm not mistaken the film got in the moviemeter top 1000 in one of the editions.

Semifinals over.

Winners:
sacmersault
toromash

I hope to start the final on the 12th. I'll send you guy a PM to let you know.

What happened with participation in the last match? Was this caused by my mistake in the header?

For me, partially yes - but only partially. I can't guarantee that I would have been in the mood to watch the two films after work today, but I may have been. It's partially my fault too though. I had been procrastinating watch the two films for a while because:

a. I absolutely despised the one film that I have seen from Eugène Green so far
b. The comments that the other film was getting didn't get my hopes up too high either
c. I have been having a bit too much fun working through the Southeast Asian Challenge at the moment

Fortunately, my vote wouldn't have made a difference either way, unless there were a lot of other procrastinators like me. Congrats to toromash and my apologies to beavis; your pick sounded intriguing and I suspect that I would have liked it the most this round.

No response yet from sacmersault. I'm off in a minute. If he send me his pick before I get back this evening, I can start the match today.

Obscure film effect?

What happens now? Toromash wins by default? Is someone going to sub Sacmersault? Maybe Joachimt can step in for once with the backup pick.
he or A. or Armo or any

I'm not sure what to do. Toromash wins by default is a bit of an anticlimax. But if I step in with a backup pick, that makes no sense at all. What if I won, would I win the tournament? If made a little bit of sense with countries, but not this time. Another way to deal with it is to let the losing managers of the semifinals compete against each other in a playoff. The winner goes to the final to play against toromash. Is that an idea?

In the meantime, I'll contact sacmersault again and will give him till this Friday to make his pick.

Sure, but I like some opinions about the idea of a playoff, at least an opinion from zzzorf, because he initiate this season, but others are welcome to chime in.

Sounds good to me joachimt. But if Sacmersault get’s back (after Friday, but before the playoff is over) he should be included in the final with the other two winners.

No, I figured you could let sol & beavis pick a film now and have a finale with 3 films, no extra waiting involved. But don't mind me too much, I'm not actively playing, so I think people who are a bit more invested could pick their favorite scenario. Just raising a suggestion :)

If it was up to me, i would have granted Sol the semi final victory, since Sol was against Sacmer.

How would this be handled in cricket, boxing, or chess? I think we need to have a poll.

Yeah I haven't really thought about it much, my gut reaction would be a DQ in the last round and his previous opponent take his place but I would also accept the playoff idea between 3rd and 4th to who would make the final. If he turns up that match could always just be the bronze medal playoff.

I guess in any sports this would mean win to Toro via forfeit.

But since we want to have a Final match, I would go for a combination of previous suggestions.

Have a Bronze medal match now. If Sacr comes before the end of the Bronze match, well and good. Have the Final after Bronze match.
If he still doesn't make it until the end of the match, make the Bronze winner as the finalist.

And, if we are going this way, make sure you get the provisional Final nominations also from each of the Bronze competitors, now itself. Just in case :pinch:

I think this is a good idea indeed. Let's do a bronze medal match. beavis and sol can pick a movie to decide who's 3rd. If sacmersault doesn't turn up before the end of that match, the winner of 3rd place can compete with toromash to maybe be the winner.

I'll check my PM's for beavis' pick......

Sol, can you send me yours?

PM sent. I've gone with a risky choice, which seems fine since this is a bit of a bonus round anyway and it doesn't matter if everyone ends up hating it. :ermm:
