iCM Forum Managers Cup - Round 1 schedule

#1

Post by joachimt »

Welcome to the schedule of iCM Forum Managers Cup - Round 1.
If you don't know what this is, you can find everything about the World Cup and Managers Cup here.

Rules in the group phase:
- You must watch all 3 films of a match before you vote.
- To vote, rank the 3 films from most favorite to least favorite.
- The manager that ends at 1st place proceeds to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
  • Ranked by highest average ranking (= lowest number).
  • In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
  • In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between three movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
  • Still a tie? Fewest #3-votes determines the winner.
  • Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension.
  • The best two #2-movies (based on average ranking) proceed to the 2nd round as well.
- Don't vote in this thread. Each match will have its own thread according to the schedule.

I had seen 5/18 before the cup started. Lots of intriguing films and a very diverse selection, this should be good!

Glad I'm not at the bottom then. I've just seen 3, including my choice. Three of the others were films at least distantly on my radar though. This will be interesting for me, first time I've participated in anything like this for quite a few years, it'll be a real change from choosing everything I see on my own as it were.

seen 7
from the other titles only 2 where on my watch-list already (a woman's tale and alexandra's project)

is "Carnage" a tv-comedy special or an actual movie...? I hate to be negative, but that would be a reason for me to skip that round as it would be too hard to rank it in that case (same goes for the shorts, but I'll try my best to give somewhat of a fair judgement in those cases...)

Haven't seen it, but judging by the trailer it looks like a mockumentary to me.

Again? Other than nominating it for last year's DTC, I don't know if I have ever pushed it outside of voting for it in various polls on here.

In any case though, no reason not to push it. I know it's in the current 500<400 list, but last year it barely made the cut with only seven voters, one of whom (Cocoa) has since left the forum. I would say that it is still pretty underseen and not especially well-known even among forum users, so yeah I definitely want to push it as much as I can.

Only seen my pick and August in the Water. Most of what I haven't seen looks intriguing.

This is what I remembered. May not have been for "official" games, but clearly back then you felt like you'd been pushing it quite hard :)

At least in my brain, you're the "Rolf de Heer guy" now.

Oh, right. Yes, I've talked about the film quite a bit on here, but yeah, other than as a DTC nomination, I think this is the first time that I have officially promoted it; I chose different films for the 1>500<400 game, for the DTC Challenge bonus games when they were run, etc.

And I'm honoured to be known as the "Rolf de Heer guy" (though I think that title more belongs to 72aicm). He's definitely our greatest and most versatile filmmaker for my money.

Seen all movies in one round and it's mine. It's a weird matchup.
Mainstream boxing action, short, mockumentary PSA.

I've seen the same number (2) from all the other rounds combined.
he or A. or Armo or any

It premiered on BBC iPlayer, so an online film.

There are no definite rules in the OP of the preparation thread. That said, I don't mind if someone uses a director that someone else already used. Just one manager shouldn't use the same director twice.

Ah; so he'll be nominating Dance Me to My Song next round. B) I was actually expecting that to make our 500<400. I wonder what happened.

Thanks. What are the rules going forward? It was a lot of talk back and forth, but I can’t remember what was decided. Less checks for each round?

Next round would be <400 checks, then it was <200 for the next. I don't think we finalised <100 or <50 for the final
