Is anybody here familiar with the Scavenger Hunt challenges over at Letterboxd? https://letterboxd.com/lastcooldude/lis ... ster-list/

I think it would be fun to try out an ICM version next month. For those who don't know the Scavenger Hunt will have one task for each day of the month but you can complete the tasks in any order and each task has to be completed with a different movie. Also it should be easy for anyone participating in Official Challenges to join in as well.

Here's some examples of tasks I've come up with:
1. Watch a movie from an official list that you don't have any awards for yet

2. Go here https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/unchecked/ and watch a movie that's on the first page

3. Watch a movie that's only on one official list

4. Shoutout to the official challenges of April. Watch a movie from the 1950's or from a Nordic Country or a DTC nominee

5. Watch a movie on 0 official lists from a 500<400 nominee list

Sounds like a neat idea. I'd honestly like to see more of this kind of thing worked into bonus challenges in the actual official challenges.

I'm always very interested in those kind of ideas. If you can get it worked out I'll probably play along.

I love these kind of challenges. Maybe have 100 different "tasks" that you have to do to complete the challenge. It could work as a standalone challenge or be used as some kind of bonus challenge to existing challenges. People could either seek out certain films to complete the task or they could just watch a film and see if it fits any of the tasks. Looking forward to it.

Quarantine is killing me. I am actually bored of this month's challenges. Looking forward to next month already.

I wouldn't mind participating in a 100 task scavenger hunt, but since I'm trying to keep my tasks related to ICM and the forum I don't think I could come up with that many tasks without being too repetitive. With that being said I think it would be cool if you or anyone else organized another scavenger hunt in the future using any ruleset they wanted.

It could work as a standalone challenge or be used as some kind of bonus challenge to existing challenges. People could either seek out certain films to complete the task or they could just watch a film and see if it fits any of the tasks. Looking forward to it.
With both Western and Comedy as two of the main challenges next month, it might be a good opportunity to work in a scavenger hunt into at least one of their Bonus challenges since they're both pretty broad categories (especially comedy).

Hmm. I was thinking of volunteering to run the Comedy Challenge next month so that I can ensure that TV is excluded. I'm going to be pretty busy next month though (I return to work on Tuesday and will recapture the "pleasure" of going to work every day during a pandemic for ten weeks) so I don't know about running any bonus or scavenger Challenges. Especially the Comedy Challenge will probably be massively busy. Maybe I shouldn't volunteer to host it. But I do think that TV should be excluded. Which is what I think we did last time. Aargh. Maybe I should see who else wants to host first next month.

The Official Challenges for May are:

Western

Comedy (let's get a host who will exclude TV)

Iberia (Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, Andorra)

I could pretty much run any of them. I might not be able to update the leaderboard on a daily basis like I usually do due to pandemic pressures, but every 48 hours would be very doable, I think. I don't really see myself managing any sort of Bonus Challenge though, so others with more free time might want to volunteer instead.

If noone else with more times takes it I will take comedy featuring both the scavenger hunt and no TV (unless the majority want TV)

Thanks, zzzorf. Hope you and your family are coping okay in these pandemic times. I've lost track of what all of the different states are doing regarding the PM's advice and keeping schools open. Over here, we have been told to pretty much expect 'business like usual'. I hope whatever the situation is, it works out with your family.

From what I've heard is that we start sending them one day a week to start and gradually that will be made more.

Thanks for volunteering to get back in the saddle, shugs. :shoot: Gee, we are doing well on volunteers considering how recently I put out the call-out.

I suppose if I get saddled with Iberia myself it would be the easiest one to run a Bonus Challenge for, and finding Andorra and Gibraltar films might indeed require some scavenging. Happy for someone else to still take this though, so consider one of the May Challenge still up for grabs.

Do we have any locals who want to host the Challenge?

zzzorf, if you're indifferent to the Comedy Challenge, I wouldn't mind hosting it. I've got quite a bit of free time lately since I'm working from home. I'm fine with excluding TV as well.

:circle: I loved the last Challenge that you hosted, flavo - especially with that screenshot bonus challenge (why the film was banned). You need a similar bonus challenge if you end up hosting Comedy. Maybe a screenshot of why the film was funny or something.

Either way I'm fine. If you want it take it do so as I normally find I drop off a bit the second half of the month.

Ok, cool. I've started putting together some comedy-themed scavenger hunt objectives for the bonus challenge based on the kinds of things Daviddoes was suggesting.

I was updating the challenge index and was just wondering what the 'Run the Director' challenge was about?

You know, when you take your dog for a walk? This one is about taking your director for a run.

Okay, sorry, couldn't help myself.

The objective of the Run the Director Challenge is to focus on director filmographies - watching 3 or more films from a single director before moving on.

Oh, and thanks for keeping the challenge index up-to-date!

Alright I'll leave the scavenger hunt challenge to be apart of the comedy bonus challenge.

My current plan is to give this another 22 to 24 hours. If nobody else has volunteered by around this time tomorrow, I will start the Iberian Challenge thread myself. :) I already have some ideas about how I could structure the leaderboard to make things more interesting.

Hey Mighty,

Many thanks for updating the Challenge Index. Looks like December of 2019 is still missing the winners.

Random question on the upcoming TSPDT challenge. Will that include the 1001-2000 list as well this since it's also official now? I kinda hoped it would since I'm pretty close to finishing the top 1000 and would like more options, but I'm guessing that'll be up to whoever runs it.

I would be interested in hosting the TSPDT challenge and would include the 1001-2000 list. Of course if shugs wants to host again or someone else feels strongly about it, I'm more than fine with it.

Yes - of course. But it's a bit early for me to have entire lists ready to go for next month. I do have 32 Hong Kong films lined up to watch so far though.

Same (though I use Word rather than Excel), however, I probably get through less than third of what I manage to round up.

It's probably more of a problem for blueboybob though - planning in advance, that is. I mean, when you are trying to average 10 films a day. :whistling:

Who is interested in hosting the 1960s and 3 Chinas next month? Trav has already volunteered for TSPDT.

I'm always available, but wouldn't mind the break. Iberia turned out to be far busier than expected. We are beating the Western Challenge!

I plan more loosely. I'll generally dig out anything I own that falls under one of the challenges, so I have an easily accessible stack. But it's rare that I have very specific movies I plan to watch. Having said that, the Run the Director Challenge is one that I'm planning a little more since I'm wanting to track down some more obscure movies from directors I wanted to hit up.
