I'll have time to host one of them if needed.

Between <400 and UK I don't, romance is the one I'm the least interested in.

Well, 72a has Romance, so let's plan on you taking UK/Ireland (unless a someone from there wants to step in), and I'll take <400.

Just a reminder: When we have the September challenges set up, it'll be time to think about official challenges for 2020.

Yeah, I know. I'm going to open things up with a poll on September 1 to decide whether or not to make a couple more challenges permanent. Looking to post the discussion thread on September 7 at this stage. Good to know that you're excited for it.

Thanks, Sol. (Actually I'm not excited so much as just doing my thing. The official challenges are precious to me, however little energy I have to participate.)

No worries. I have been a bit low on energy too lately (very busy with work) but I'm assuming/hoping things will clear up in the next few weeks to make my running of the pre-Challenge stuff viable for the third year in a row.

These are the tentative dates that I have in mind. Happy to take feedback and be a bit flexible with this, though many dates have been chosen for a reason (either a Saturday or during school holidays to allow me maximum time to add to discussions at hand).

September 1 - open a poll to decide whether or not to make permanent the two Challenges that received over 40 votes in last year's poll

September 7 - open a discussion thread for 2020 Challenge ideas

September 7 - open a discussion thread to determine regions of the world for the Country/Region Challenges prior to voting

October 2 - open preliminary polls to see which theme challenge ideas will make it to the final polls

October 9 - open six polls to vote on the 2020 Challenges

November 9 - open a thread to discuss scheduling for successful Challenge ideas

December 1 - open a thread to discuss Challenge rules and feedback

One challenge I plan to propose that we've never done before is a live performance challenge that would encompass stand up specials, concert performances, plays and anything else filmed live. I think it'd be a fun change of pace. The only thing that may affect it getting voted on is that there aren't a ton of official checks of these kinds of movies.

I've been wondering whether an official rewatch challenge would make any sense. - ?

It was suggested last year and I voted in favour of it - but it was not popular enough to make the cut. Maybe this year it will?

By the way guys, it might be best waiting until September 7 when I post the discussion thread to get the ball rolling on ideas. By all means, continue brainstorming and maybe jot down some notes on paper, but since more folks are likely to read the discussion thread, that's probably the best avenue to get proper feedback on any ideas.

Not to change subjects... but September is coming up, and we'll need hosts. We have:

Japan
Silent Era
21st Century

Who's up for hosting? 72a - are you still up for decade duty?

Personally, I've got some weird stuff coming up in Sept, so I'd like the month off from hosting (though I'd like to lay claim to Horror in Oct, if there are no objections)

Of course. I might try the ‘20 TV-points’ rule again. Unless people are against that.

Weird stuff. Love the vague and enticing description (no, I'm not going to probe). No objections to you volunteering to host the busiest challenge of the year. Didn't want to be saddled with that myself.

As always, I'm available to host if you guys need me to (and I'd probably slightly prefer Silent September over Japan), however, like max, I have weird stuff* coming up in September, so I would be just as happy to have the month off if we have others keen on hosting those two challenges.

* well, not so much weird, but there is a time factor involved with running the 2020 Challenges discussion threads

I can take care of Japan if someone guides me with the tallying script - it will be my first. :cowbow:

It's not a script, but will this work for you?

viewtopic.php?p=526114#p526114

Excel file template that calculates/formats results. You have to record numbers manually (which only takes a few seconds), but the file will calculate ranks and format the table for you.

Thanks Max, looks very helpful already to log and create the table for the post. I remembered some discussion around a tallying script and found some reference to it there. Maybe not a big deal to track it manually but if there is a one-click thing that does it for you even better… Has anyone got that script anywhere ?

So who do we have down as Silent Era host? 3eyes doesn't sound enthusiastic (unless I'm misreading that). I can host it -- and update the leader board at least once per day -- but I won't have the spare time next month to attend to any fun stats or the like.

Sol, thanks. It's not exactly lack of enthusiasm, but this whole enterprise has evolved way beyond my level of competence.

I guess we won't be looking for any triples this round, unless neo-silents are allowed (I think I spotted one Japanese one).

So, I got some clarity in my schedule, and Sept. isn't actually all that weird for me - so I can host Silent. I'll get a thread up soon.

If you want to. I still can host if it's going to be tough for you next month.

Or maybe I should take the break next month while I get the 2020 Challenge planning threads organised. A break might also leave me refreshed enough to volunteer to host the TSP+TSP21C Challenge in October (been thinking about this).
