What can we learn from past movies about our current days?

WHAT THIS CHALLENGE IS ABOUT: Not related to the X-Men Comic/Movie of the same name, rather a challenge of Past Movies set in (our present) Future. It's about watching older movies but set in our current time, which is 2021.

DURATION: Every edition starts every 1st of January and ends on December 31. It's meant to be an ongoing challenge but renewed every year with new films set in the current year.

GOAL: Watch all the films eligible below during the current year and share your commentary about it. Did those movies get anything right? Was our present too bleak? Was there a pandemic too? The older the movie the funnier it gets.

RULES: Movies released in the current year set in the current year are not eligible. Rewatches are allowed and good for the soul.


:ICM: Carnage: Swallowing the Past (2017) *This movie is primarily set in 2067 but has a segment in 2021.
Carnage is a 2017 mockumentary directed by Simon Amstell. Set in the year 2067, when veganism is the norm, the film looks back on meat-eating today.

It's All About Love is a 2003 English-language Danish romance-drama film written and directed by Thomas Vinterberg. Its narrative can be classified as apocalyptic science fiction, but Vinterberg prefers to call it "a dream".

A Quiet Place is a 2018 American horror film directed by John Krasinski and written by Bryan Woods, Scott Beck and Krasinski. The plot revolves around a father (Krasinski) and a mother (Emily Blunt) who struggle to survive and raise their children (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.

:ICM: Steel Rain 2 (2020)
Steel Rain 2: Summit is a 2020 South Korean action thriller film written and directed by Yang Woo-suk. It is a standalone sequel to the 2017 film Steel Rain. In the film, three leaders each from South Korea, North Korea and USA are kidnapped and held in a North Korean nuclear submarine during a summit between the two Koreas and the United States.
